The pictures don't do this cabin justice! My girlfriends and I took a trip for a weekend getaway in January 2015. The cabin was warm, cozy, and beautiful. The whole back wall of the cabin is a bunch of windows and the sunset is beautiful every night. Even with the windows the cabin is still very warm! We had the fireplace going each night and played games. We even visited a vineyard for a wine tasting and it was only about a mile away. Serene, tranquil, beautiful, and clean! Would definitely visit again.
This charming A frame home is well cared for and has comfortable beds for a family of 5. Up to 7 ppl can stay if they share beds. No pull out sofa beds, comfortable beds with warm blankets and a variety of pillow. The kitchen is well equipped even with holiday platters and a soup tureen for our Thanksgiving meal we prepared. The owner is generous with sharing spices and condiments and leaves them for use by renters. The hot tub was warm and comfortable outside watching the night sky. We arrived to the home with 6" of snow. The owner called to warn us beforehand so we drove out 4WD vehicle to get up the 4mile paved road and navigated the plowed gravel road the last half mile to the house. Though there are neighbors close by, the house seems secluded. It is a beautiful are close to wineries, the Appalacian trail and Va horse country. It is one short hour from Washington DC. It is a great place to really get away.
Getting there at night is a bit of an adventure, but once we found the cottage everything was perfect. A great, quiet, well maintained place to hang out for a couple days.
This is an excellent getaway cabin! The pictures don't do it justice. You really are in the middle of the woods with a beautiful jacuzzi, bon fire pit, BBQ/deck and large beautiful window. The cabin has everything that you need. Perfect for those looking for a quiet place with all amenities. Just bring your clothes and food to cook and you're all set! We loved that they already had fire wood underneath the home for guests to use.
We stayed here with my mother and aunt who were visiting us for the summer. We live close to DC and needed a nice getaway place with a Jacuzzi. Lani and Garth's lovely cottage met our needs in every way.
They had enough towels, paper towels, toilet paper (although if you brought some, it will be nice to leave some for future guests!) and some bathroom amenities. If you need to go grocery shopping, Front Royal is within 20 mins. FYI: we shopped at Martin's and it was very clean with good selection of food.
Fox Meadow Winery wine tasting was very close. We bought wine there and enjoy dinner and wine at this cottage.
Jacuzzi had a light so you can still enjoy taking a hot tub at night. No problems with Jets and temperature. Not too many mosquito but I would recommend guests to bring bug spray.
Playground was my 5 yr old son's favorite! They enjoyed playing with toys in their bunk bed room. Beds in master and upstairs had comfortable mattress. Dining table was bigger than it looked in picture.
It took a while for us to get the key out from the box but once we figured it out it was easy.
There was an issue with my Paypal account which gave Lani and Garth a hard time to give us refund but they were very kind about it. We had wonderful time there and hopefully we can come back again next summer!
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is nicely laid out, even with neighbors on both sides the main view is just of the woods, so it feels like it's very remote. And it's quiet, exactly what we look for when we leave downtown DC.
The owners do something that I wish more owners did, which is to have a basic stuff around the house. They don't advertise it, of course, because there's no guarantee of what will be there for any specific guest, but I hate showing up at a place where there's no paper towels or salt and you kick yourself for not packing everything like you were moving to a new place.
Instead, Lani and Garth have stocked the bathrooms with Costco shampoo and soap, the kitchen has some napkins and paper towels and salt/pepper, the frig has mustard and ketchup, so if you forgot them you're not out of luck when grilling hot dogs. This is exactly what I'd do should we own a place like this.
