Accord House Rental Photos and Description

Country Estate, 3 Bedrooms/2 bath, sleeps6

This spacious, 3 BDR, historic 1840s Greek Revival house is set on 10 acres, beautifully situated near the historic villages of High Falls and Stone Ridge. It is just minutes down the same scenic country road from the famous Mohonk Mountain House, a national historic landmark with it's spa rated #1 in the country by Conde Nast. Trailheads into the 8,000 acre Mohonk Preserve, New York's largest non-profit nature preserve, are minutes from the door. Minnewaska State Park with 21,000 acres of protected wilderness, 35 miles of carriage roads, 25 miles of foot paths, 3 crystalline sky lakes, beautiful views and numerous waterfalls, is a short drive away. Just cut through 'The Clove', an old Dutch name for the stunning valley now mostly owned by the Nature Conservancy and the Mohonk Preserve and you will have access to yet more trailheads! The house is an easy 90 minute drive from NYC to New Paltz, then through 'The Gunks', a world class rock climbing and hiking area that the Nature Conservancy has dubbed one of the earth's 'Last Great Places'. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the nearby hiking and biking paths and carriage roads, rock climbing and ice cave exploring, swimming and fishing in streams and local lakes, and cross country skiing and snow shoeing. Owned and recently renovated by an artist and writer, the property is available year round exclusively for guests looking for a quiet, rural retreat with plenty of options for outdoor fun. Come soak up some of the Hudson Valley's rich history, explore local wineries, shop at family farm stands, poke around in antique shops, or sample the local fare in restaurants and watering holes in one of the surrounding towns.

A SPECIAL NOTE: We do not host large special gatherings, parties of any kind, weddings or movie shoots.

This historic 1840s house, after an extensive recent renovation, has become a comfortable year-round vacation home, full of historic charm and character. It has three spacious bedrooms with 2 king beds and one queen, all with memory foam mattress toppers, and crisp, hotel-style white linens. The master bedroom has its own private, tiled bath and deep soaking tub. The second shared bath also has a deep soaking tub. All the bedrooms have central air-conditioning. The kitchen is outfitted with stone countertops and high-end appliances. The large wooden farm table in the dining room is a fabulous gathering spot for a memorable meal. A collection of comfortable upholstered lounge chairs and sofas in the living room are centered around a wood burning fireplace and ringed by the original, beautiful old lead glass windows that invite looking out over the lawns and meadow. The house is lightly furnished with interesting and unique pieces from around the world.

Other amenities include outdoor seating and dining options on the two porches. The front porch has a large Moroccan mosaic table and chairs just off the kitchen for outdoor meals as well as a stainless steel Weber gas grill. The back porch with rocking chairs and a wicker couch overlooks the meadow towards the Rondout Creek and Catskill Mountains. There is WIFI thoughout and a flat-screen Sony TV with Apple TV and NetFlix. Check-out the large game cupboard with something entertaining for all ages. The basement has a fully equipped laundry room.

Check-in is after 4 pm and check-out is by 11 am unless otherwise arranged with the owner.

There is also a one bedroom, 1000 square foot Carriage House with kitchen on site, which can be seen and reserved by visiting listing #929151 on HomeAway and #381193 on VRBO. It has its own separate driveway entrance but is on the same 10 acres down hill from the house. It can be rented in tandem with the house or on its own.

About Sterrett Smith

We were lucky to be able to purchase this house from a family that had owned it for over 50 years. I am first of all a painter but have found myself over the years building or renovating, something I truly enjoy. My husband is a writer and also is director of a graduate program in NYC.

Sterrett Smith purchased this house in 2011

Why Sterrett Smith chose Accord

We made the critical decision years ago to move to the Hudson Valley in order to have the space we needed for our large library and painting studio as well as land for a vegetable garden and fruit trees. High Falls is an easy drive from NYC which was a necessity for us. The area is home to many artists who have an active relationship with the city. It is also the source of water for NYC and therefore much of the land is protected or is part of the geologically unique 25,000 acres in the Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park.

Great home in a great area

  • 5 of 5
We loved this area. My children were there for climbing and a lot of times you can't find really nice accommodations in climbing areas. The home is beautiful, very comfortable but upscale and everything you need. I baby sat for my 2 year old granddaughter so the grounds were just perfect for playing outside with lots of things to do. The area is interesting, lots of things to do historically, artsy with college towns close by, lots of fun small interesting restaurants and Sterrett gives you a great list of things to do. We were there as the trees were beginning to change and the apples were ready for picking....all in all great 10 days.

Gorgeous Home with everything you could need!

  • 5 of 5
A group of friends and I just stayed here while attending a wedding nearby. The home and grounds are impeccable and stunning. Beautifully decorated. Makes you feel right at home the second you step foot in the door. Sterrett is incredible to work with. She was able to accommodate our hectic check in schedule and answered any questions we had immediately. The Apple TV was a huge bonus for us. Wonderful to stay in and relax after a busy weekend. The next time I am in the Hudson Valley, or anyone I know is, I will hands down recommend this property! Can't wait for my next visit!

Has to be seen to be believed

Pictures do not do this home justice! Beautiful home, decorated with impeccable taste. Airy modern kitchen, three well appointed bedrooms, fireplace, Apple TV, etc. Surrounded by idyllic countryside--loved watching sun go down from the porch, beautiful natural light throughout during day. Owner, Sterrett gave great recommendations for day hike and spot on restaurant suggestions. Cant wait to plan another visit.

A Treat!

  • 5 of 5
What a treasure! I cannot say enough about our lovely summer weekend stay. The house was clean as a whistle, it certainly had all the amenities that one would need in the kitchen, the beds were so comfortable I did not even want to get up! The grounds are beautiful. It was so pleasant to sit on the back porch and enjoy the sun. The house was perfect. It was exactly as the pictures portrayed. Even better.

We were coming for a wedding weekend with another couple and at first had trouble finding a place to stay in the area. So we feel we lucked out. We could not have been happier. Sterrett, our host, was helpful and made you feel as you were her guest and right at home!

Already, trying to figure out what reason we can go back to stay.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5
This house is truly stunning. The owners have beautiful taste and have thought of everything to make this a really comfortable house to stay in. Some rentals say that they sleep six but it means two couples sleeping on a pull out couch. This place truly has space for 3 couples. The beds are comfortable, the sheets are soft and the towels are fluffy. The air conditioning made for beautifully cool bedrooms and a really good night's sleep.
We were in town for a wedding and our only regret is that we didn't get to spend more time at the house.
It really felt like a home away from home and we plan to come back!
