Located at the southern tip of the lovely Sitges bay, this modern and spacious first-floor Parc de Mar apartment is part of a high-quality low-rise development right on the sea front. Three large private pools in the beautiful, well-tended gardens are open to residents, and secure underground parking allows easy access by lift to the apartment. There are two wide balconies running either side of the property, offering views of the sea and golf course on one side and the pool and gardens on the other. The attractive centre of Sitges town is within reach along a wide and elegant promenade, and Barcelona, the historic and artistic capital of Catalonia, is just 30 minutes away by car or train.
Apartment: The front door opens onto a small hall leading directly into a bright, open-plan living & dining area with simple but comfortable furnishings. The kitchen is very modern and fully equipped with a built-in hob, oven and microwave, and there is a small laundry area adjacent to the balcony. En suite to the main double bedroom is a large bathroom with two washbasins, a bath and a shower. Opposite is a walk-in wardrobe with excellent storage facilities. The three further bedrooms are also each fully fitted with built-in cupboards, mirrors and shelving space. All rooms are light and airy, with full-length sliding windows opening directly onto the two wide balconies that run down either site of the property. There are two further bathrooms and all are finished to a high quality in marble.
Sitges, formerly a traditional Catalan fishing village, has lost none of its unique charm despite its growth as a popular place for holidays or for Barcelona residents who want to get away from the City. The centre is very picturesque with narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and hanging floral baskets. However there is a lively bustle in the town centre, where locals and visitors alike enjoy the chic shopping and fashionable restaurants and bars. A modern marina on the far side of the village offers even more dining opportunities in a gorgeous location in front of the yachts. A wide palm-fringed promenade runs behind the beach the full length of the bay, and at the end of the afternoon it is customary for the Spanish to gather with friends and family and walk at leisure along the seafront. The town has a thriving cultural calendar with concerts, dancing and art exhibitions throughout the year. The streets of the old town are carpeted with flowers for the Corpus Christi procession in the Spring, and there is a truly spectacular fireworks display on the eve of the annual Fiesta Major in August.
The capital of the prosperous Catalonia region of Spain, Barcelona is a magnificent city with much to attract the visitor. In preparation for the Olympic Games held here in 1992, the landmark stadium was built on the hillside of Montjuic and a modern Port and Marina were developed, now busy with a wide range of restaurants, cinemas and other attractions. The art and architecture of the city, including the unique contributions left by Gaudi, Picasso and Dali amongst others, make this a vibrant centre of Spanish history and culture. From the Gothic Cathedral in the old quarter to Gaudi's extraordinary Sagrada Familia cathedral, there is much to see and admire. The Parc Guell, a modern Aquarium and a fascinating Maritime Museum are popular with children. Along Las Ramblas, the tree-lined promenade running down to the waterfront, flower-sellers, song-bird merchants, jugglers, artists and “living-statues” mingle with the crowds. Barcelona can be easily reached by train or car from Sitges.
About an hour south of Sitges is Tarragona. Founded by the Romans, one can visit the amphitheatre and old markets. Just outside Tarragona, reached by train or car, is the Puerto Aventura theme park and water world, fun for the children (and adults!).
But whatever else, make the most of Sitges, its warm welcome and everthing it has to offer.
Sitges is situated on the northern Spanish mediterranean coast 35 km south of Barcelona, and is easily accessed from the coastal motorways. The historic town of Tarragona is 30 minutes further south and the popular Universal Studios theme park Port Aventura is within a 45 minutes drive. Barcelona airport is just 25 minutes away by car or taxi, and there are frequent trains running from Sitges along the scenic coast into the centre of Barcelona.
