We spent our family's spring break at the Robins Nest and had an amazing time. The weather was chilly so we were a little worried about how we'd entertain the kids. I know my husband, who had this grand idea to venture out into "nature" was worried that I'd get bored since usually, I like to shop when the weather is bad outside. But I have to say (yes, brace yourself, friends) I didn't miss the shopping! This place was the perfect combination of rustic outdoors, beauty and comfort. It was a bit chilly, but we couldn't drag the kids in from poking around in the woods and looking for whatever they look for in the water, and the setting was so absolutely beautiful and serene, I was lulled into absolute relaxation. Even with a chill in the air, I had my big sweater on, a crackling fire in the outdoor pit, a great book, my rear in a hammock, a glass of wine, happy kids running around somewhere, and a husband throwing his line off the dock ... so honestly, I couldn't have asked for anything more. Thanks for sharing this your little natural paradise with us, Penelope! Who knew one place could make us all happy? We can't wait to come back.

Refreshing Tranquility

Our family of 10 (4 adults, 3 children and 3 toy poodles) had an absolutely wonderful week at the Robin's Nest. We brought our boat - launched it at Yankee Point Marina (3 minutes away) and kept it at the dock on the property. The kids had a great time swimming in water at the house - no jelly fish which was a great relief! The khayaks were perfect, especially on quiet, still mornings and in the afternoon, the kids learned a new sport. We fished and crabbed right there at the dock and actually caught a pretty big sting ray (not intentional) but the kids were thrilled to see it! We also caught a toad fish - very ugly. The setting around the house is really very peaceful - whether resting in the hammock or just sitting around the fire pit - everyone really relaxed and enjoyed themselves. In the past we have rented places closer to the ocean and it was a hassle packing up everyone and everything to take to the beach for the day. At the Robin's Nest, you had the comforts of everything you need right down the pier and it really made a big difference for us. We spent some time exploring the local area because we are considering a retirement home along the Northern Neck and really liked the Lancaster area. We cooked our meals every day with no problem - great fully loaded kitchen - and we fried our fish and steamed our crabs outside. We brought our own propane / burner / pots but not needed as they have a nice burner and pot - just bring your propane. Our daughters and grandchildren (reluctantly) left us on Friday to take care of some weekend commitments so we had one 'quiet' night to ourselves which was spent sitting at the end of the dock with a nice glass of wine. We will definitely be back in 2013! Thanks for sharing your tranquil piece of paradise with us, Penelope!

Fun and relaxing getaway for the entire family

The Robin's Nest was a great location for our family of five. The kitchen was well stocked and the bedrooms and family room had all the comforts of home - especially the TV with blu-ray and surround sound. The real highlight of our stay was the scenery. We loved being so close to the water. There was swimming, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. The kids even got a chance to see a bald eagle. There was also a grill and crab cooker available, which made it great for family outdoor dinners. My husband got a kick out of steaming the crabs we caught right off the dock. We'll definitely be making this an annual tradition!

Our Ronin's Nest Stay

Our Ronin's Nest Stay

We visited the Robin’s Nest from 6/21/12 to 6/25/12 and there were 7 adults and one puppy in our party. The first thing that struck us was the remoteness of the house, which the guys liked and the girls didn’t. It was about 30 minutes from the nearest full grocery store and Walmart. This was all pointed out in communication with the owner, so it wasn’t a surprise.

The house itself is situated on a very private point of land in Myers Creek. In fact, for our entire visit we didn’t see or hear anyone else. The only noise was that from birds and was welcome. The house was extremely well supplied in all regards. There were plenty of towels and bathroom supplies and the kitchen was loaded with all the necessities. Our only complaint about the kitchen was the oven, which didn’t seem to get sufficiently hot to completely cook a frozen lasagna.

We visited during a very hot spell and found the house to be quite comfortable. All rooms had a ceiling fan, which really helped keep it cool. The TV was large and good quality, with full satellite channels. This was nice since it rained one day and we hung out inside. I have to say, though, that the living room really only accommodates about 4 adults comfortably. Others had to sit at the counter stools or dining room chairs.

We really enjoyed the outside areas. There is a nice patio with hammock that is shaded and relaxing. The entire yard is shaded which, along with an almost constant breeze, was comfortable even in the high 90s temps that we had during our visit. This also served to minimize any mosquitoes. We spent a lot of time on the dock fishing and sunbathing. Unfortunately, there were many jellyfish which kept us from swimming in the water. There were lots of herons and other birds, as well as the bald eagle nest across the cove to observe. We found the fishing to be really good, catching MANY croakers and spots (big ones) and even a stingray! The dock had water and lights, which were great features. The kayaks and canoe were great and we enjoyed touring the area by water.

We came prepared to do a lot of outdoor grilling and sadly, we were very disappointed in this regard. There was no charcoal grill (which was listed in the amenities) and the gas grill was in very poo
