This cottage was a wonderful place to spend our Christmas vacation. So peaceful and quiet with all the comforts of home.
We spent a long weekend out here and wish we booked for more time! It was such a relaxing getaway! We were looking for a pet-friendly vacation home to stay in to celebrate 15 years of marriage with the entire family. Penelope provided helpful instructions on getting here. We were welcomed with a warm fire roaring in the Franklin stove as we entered the house. We were so happy and relieved to find a high-quality home to stay in for the next few days. The furniture and décor was impressive! The dining table truly brought out the home's rustic charm.
It was rainy on the day we arrived but we were still captivated by the window views that can be seen looking towards the water. The weather was perfect the next few days. This was the best time to be out in the woods! It wasn't too cold but crisp enough to keep the summer bugs away (no mosquito bites!). Our two boys never wanted to go inside! It was a nice change to see them play outside instead of inside playing video games or watching TV. We got to fish and canoe in the river. The water was so still and calm! We were able to see the bottom of the river at the dock and dug up giant oysters in the bed. The fall leaves were beautiful at this time of year. We shot our family portraits out here with the dock and the autumn leaves as our backdrop.
Thanks for sharing your home with us. The whole family (including the dogs!) had a wonderful, relaxing time! We look forward to visiting again! :)
Very nice, clean and relaxing. The property was just as described. The whole family had a great week enjoying the great outdoors.
When Penelope warns you over and over again (ha) that this is a get away from it all type of place, believe her ... but don't think there isn't a lot to do! We chose a fall date a couple of weeks before the holidays to venture to the Northern Neck, and we were not disappointed. There was still color on the leaves, and it was simply awesome. I had to telework our first full day there, but I could just sit with my laptop and a full view of the trees and the water while the family fished, warmed by a fire and grilled up some fresh oysters. THAT is the way to work (I actually got a lot done ...), and for once, it seemed stress free! Fortunately, though, for the rest of our stay, I joined the family and with a full day ahead of their ol' man, our kids got a kick out of showing me how to catch a crab with a net from the dock and showing Mom where they had seen a wild turkey run through the trees. And we were all in awe to see first a Blue Heron ... and then a pair of eagles. It is an absolutely blessed spot for water and nature lovers, and we can't wait to come back. Thank you for sharing it, Penelope!
We can't thank Penelope enough for creating such a well-appointed home on the water for our family vacation. The highlight of the trip was seeing my 90 year old grandpa take his cane and walk straight from the house, telling my 15 year old son to grab a chair and fishing pot and follow him. I hadn't seen him walk much in the last 20 years since my grandmother died, except from his chair to the bathroom, but this week, he was determined to fish and crab like he use to when he was little, and like he taught all of us. He was the grandpa I always remembered ... and my kids got to see it! It is something we will treasure forever. AND perfect weather, a perfect, serene setting with plenty to do from kayaking or standup paddle boarding or even jumping in a car and exploring the creeks and country side from the road. We are in love with this place. THANK YOU! And a big hello to Dale the Merry Point Ferry Captain from us! Now THAT guy has the best job in the world, followed by the guys at Merroir in Topping! We'll be back!
There is no better place on the Northern Neck than this charming house. We plan to be back at least one more time before the end of the year.
We spent our family's spring break at the Robins Nest and had an amazing time. The weather was chilly so we were a little worried about how we'd entertain the kids. I know my husband, who had this grand idea to venture out into "nature" was worried that I'd get bored since usually, I like to shop when the weather is bad outside. But I have to say (yes, brace yourself, friends) I didn't miss the shopping! This place was the perfect combination of rustic outdoors, beauty and comfort. It was a bit chilly, but we couldn't drag the kids in from poking around in the woods and looking for whatever they look for in the water, and the setting was so absolutely beautiful and serene, I was lulled into absolute relaxation. Even with a chill in the air, I had my big sweater on, a crackling fire in the outdoor pit, a great book, my rear in a hammock, a glass of wine, happy kids running around somewhere, and a husband throwing his line off the dock ... so honestly, I couldn't have asked for anything more. Thanks for sharing this your little natural paradise with us, Penelope! Who knew one place could make us all happy? We can't wait to come back.
