Our spacious two-bedroom apartment is situated in Bad Herrenalb, a picturesque thermal spa town in the heart of the Black Forest. We provide self-catering accommodation which is particularly suited for families with children. The apartment is located in a beautiful valley (the Gaistal), which, during the spring, summer and autumn season, is a paradise for hiking, mountain biking and other outdoor pursuits. During the winter season, the Gaistal is in easy reach of numerous Alpine and Nordic skiing slopes and lifts (a beginners slope and lift is only five minutes away from the apartment). A twenty-minute walk will bring you to the town centre of Bad Herrenalb and its world-famous thermal spa, which, with its unique programme of massage, thermal water and beauty therapies, will cater for your every need. If you want to sample the local cuisine (traditional German/French), we recommend the traditional Black Forest inn 'Zur Linde', which is only 100 yards away.

Our apartment is located in the beautiful thermal spa town of Bad Herrenalb, which is your ideal starting-point for your exploration of the many unforgettable sights of the Black Forest. The breath-taking beauty and sophisticated glamour of Baden-Baden and its spas, casinos and theatres is within easy reach (30 minutes). For a refined shopping experience, the cities of Karlsruhe (30 minutes) and Stuttgart (60 minutes) offer an extensive range of department stores and boutiques. Heidelberg, the romantic, medieval city in the Rhine Valley (50 minutes) is a dream of olden times and not be missed. Similarly, Strasbourg and its awe-inspiring medieval cathedral as well the Alsace-Lorraine region with its numerous exquisite vineyards is directly on your doorstep (60 minutes). The 'Europa Park' in Rust (60 minutes), according to 'The Sunday Times', is Europe's best theme park and provides hours of fun and entertainment for the whole family. Even Switzerland is nearby (two hours).

The second bedroom is used normally as the children's bedroom and contains three single beds, one of which is an activity bed in the shape of a castle with a slide. This bedroom also contains a wardrobe, a locker and bedside lighting.

A great retreat in the heart of the Black Forest

We have just returned from a lovely weekend staying in this beautiful apartment in the unspoilt spa town of Bad Herrenalb in the heart of the Black Forest.

The apartment was fabulous, spacious, clean, well maintained with stunning views of the mountains and countryside. We relaxed in the evening drinking delicious bottles of local wine on the balcony.

Bad Herrenalb is an ideal location for visiting other places within the Black Forest. The bus and train services run like clockwork and it’s so easy to visit cities such as Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Heidelberg from Bad Herrenalb. Baden Baden is a bus ride away (30 minutes), very glamorous and is home to two spas, the world famous casino, lovely gardens as well as plenty of bars and restaurants.

Bad Herrenalb is a lot more tranquil, has its own thermal spa (the Aquahealing is fantastic!) which is less crowded than the spas in Baden Baden. It’s also a great base for hikes whatever the length. There are some lovely restaurants to choose from (Zur Linde – a traditional restaurant a couple of minutes walk away, a nice Italian and a great Kebab place nearby too). There’s also a supermarket in the centre which has all you need if you fancied a bit of home cooking.

Deirdre and Armin were great to deal with, very friendly, welcoming and replied promptly to any questions we had. We certainly would recommend this property for a romantic getaway as well as being ideal for families. It’s a great place to combine relaxation with countryside walks. We hope to come back and stay in the apartment again!

I spent a wonderful week in Bad Herrenalb. The village itself could be literally described as a picture postcard town. Beautiful views with the surrounding hills and the town itelf is very quaint. There are many lovely walks in the surrounding hills and woods, which are on your doorstep.

The apartment is clean and well maintained with facilities to entertain a young family. The balcony is a bonus with a lovely view down the valley.

I found the owners to be very helpful and they have obviously spent a lot of time in he village as they were able to pass on many useful tips.

I particularly liked the spa with the heated indoor and outdoor swimming pool and would recommend the aqua-healing. The town has a number of good restaurants, including the nearby Linde. The public transport is run with typical German efficiency and you have a free pass for the local buses and trains. A car would be recommended however if you wanted to travel further afield.

All in all, I really enjoyed my vacation and will definately return here in the future.

Tranquil mountain getaway!

I stayed in this apartment last winter and enjoyed a relaxing and carefree time. We were met by the friendly local for the hand over of keys. The owners were friendly and helpful about all my many querues and had fabulous local area knowledge.
The property was sparkling clean and had all the necessary, it was really homey and gave us a taste of living in a real german home.
The views were fantastic with snow covered mountains all around . I have not seen the property in summer but would imagine the valleys are beautiful.
A little farther along was the really lovely town with a wonderful spa with in and outdoor pools and treatment centre etc
There was a lovely little village within walking distance with typical german restaurants which we enjoyed eating at.
I would recomend this property to friends or family wanting a quiet break away from it all in tranquil settings.

Blissful Relaxation

I have just returned from staying at this apartment after having the most relaxing holiday with the children that we have ever had! The choice of location is superb; with beautiful views, lovely walks, and beside a lovely stream that you can hear while sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine in the evening.

The apartment is obviously used by the owners themselves as it has that extra personal touch, I especially liked the childrens room - so much space and one of the 3 beds in the room is a high bed with a slide attached. The living room is bright and tastefully decorated and the kitchen has every utensil you could require. The beds themselves are the most comfortable I have ever slept in and combined with the the cleansing air of the area, I had the best nights sleep I've had in years.

The apartment has got a great restaurant beside it - Zu Linde; authentic, very good German food and very friendly service. There are also other restaurants that I would recommend in the town such as the Greek and the Italian.

There's a great swimming pool down the town where you can sunbathe or swim. There are 3 pools; a toddlers, a childrens for playing and one for doing lengths. The children loved going down the slide.

The spa in the town is fantastic! Aqua healing in particular I would recommend, but I also got an all body massage which was great.

There are also great walks around the apartment; 1 very close that leads to a bridge over the stream where we went regularly to bathe our feet when the weather was hot. There's another great walk nearby that the kids loved; there was a natural spring, a tree house and other things to take their interest. This is a very child friendly place.

I will definitely be back.
