Central double sided fireplace divides kitchen and living area. Lodge-style front with huge windows for wild-life viewing, star-gazing and amazing sunset view. Covered front porch with chairs, grill/smoker in back right off from kitchen, binoculars, firepit sits just to the north of the cabin within feet of the Elk trail. Follow the trail up to the low ridge behind the cabin for awesome wildlife viewing. A small seasonal stream intersects part of the trail through the woods behind the cabin. Lincoln National Forrest access accross Hwy 82 within walking/ATV distance. Five minutes from downtown Cloudcroft for dining, shopping. Golf course within five miles, Cloudcroft hike to the famous train trestle, ice-skating, playground, skiing within two miles (or sledding at the hill in front of the cabin). There are utensils, plates and cooking supplies.
Unlike most other properties for rent in the Cloudcroft area, the cabin has no close neighbors, yet is close to town.
Loved this place. Very secluded beautiful views. Saw bobcat, coyote, elk
Went hiking one day. Drove to ruidosa one day About a 45 min drive. Very comfortable beds. Nice tv. Nice fireplace
Hot tub would have been nice but the jacuzzi tub was a close second place
Looking forward to staying there again next yr and making a day of skiing in ruidosa
3rd year in a row staying here. Such a nice place. Wild turkey and elk in driveway nearly everyday. plenty of room and close enough to cloudcroft and Ruidoso for lots of fun if you want to venture out. Or just sit back, relax and enjoy the comfort of this wonderful cabin.
If you need to check-in at work use the internet for searching other activities in area, the Wi-Fi works great.
This was such a relaxing mini vacation. It was just what I needed. It was secluded which was perfect! The house was beautiful and clean, better than expected. Chris was so helpful and very friendly. Great place for a family to stay. We even had our small dog with us. We saw elk and wild turkeys. Just a perfect weekend! I will definitely tell my friends and family and this little piece of heaven!!!!!
We had a great weekend here. There was 6 to 8 inches of snow just beautiful. Perfect driveway for sledding.
We so enjoyed our long weekend at Elk Run Cabin. The cabin is so beautiful and set in the side of the mountain with views that were unbelievable with wildlife. The large front windows are just perfect for sitting and watching for all the animals to appear, and they did. We saw turkeys, deer, elk and beautiful birds. We also hiked around the cabin and got our exercise. It is steep climbing around the cabin so it does take your breath away in more ways than one. We had 8 people in our party, 4 adults and 4 children. There is plenty of room for sleeping and playing in the cabin. The kids were kept busy the whole time with all the toys and the outdoors. We cooked all of our meals at the cabin and it is fully furnished with everything you need. We had a great time and hope to be able to return in the future. Thank you to Chris and Don for being so nice and helpful.
This cabin is great spacious and cozy. Everything was clean in in order when my group arrived, the kitchen is fully equipped it even had a hand mixer to do our cake, there are games and plenty of sitting space next to the fireplace. Outside you will find a gas grill and chairs. If I am back in town I will definitely rent it again!
Minutes from village living on five gorgeous acres. The perfect location to explore the entire southern region of New Mexico. You could begin at White Sands National Monument exploring over 300 acres of the world's largest reservoir of gypsum in the world (don't forget the sleds under the beds). Archaeology buff? How about Three Rivers Petroglyph National Recreation Site to discover over 21,000 ancient symbols? Next, there is the 8th wonder of the world...Carlsbad Caverns 870-foot underground caves of stalagmites, stalactites and Mexican free tail bats. Horseback riding through apple farms or Horse racing at Ruidoso downs all short scenic drives. The second largest ski mountain at ski Apache (or sled down our own 'beginner slope' at the cabin). An awesome drive just north will take you back in time to 'Billy the Kid country' Lincoln county. See where the real Lincoln county war was fought and follow the Kid up to his resting place at Fort Sumner and check out the Billy the Kid Museum. Check out the Chili capital of the world in Hatch, UFO's in Roswell, sing the blues with good eats in Silver City. OK take a breather and relax at the edge of Elephant Butte lake or get out on it and swim or sail the beautiful deep blue water. Step into a former metropolis of the wild west, eat authentic Mexican and check out the pirhana (that's right!) in Old Mesilla, Las Cruces. Don't forget this area is space central to our country's history. The Space Museum is a short drive and Sunspot Observatory is even closer. Watch migrating birds take it easy in the wetlands of Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge near Socorro. Speaking of taking it easy....you could just grab a local world class green chili burger and choose to stay on Elk Run's 5 acres hike up to the low ridge behind the cabin (especially at dusk) and watch Elk, deer and turkey make there way down the trail that runs directly below the ridge you are sitting on to watch this panoramic live view of nature in action. Drink hot chocolate on the covered porch or sit in front of the huge lodge window at night and sit amazed at how many stars you can actually see without city light interference! Not kidding stars behind stars!
