Kelly grew up in North Carolina. She studied at Appalachian State University and Mars College. Kurt grew up in Texas and studied Architecture at Texas Tech and then Texas A&M University. Both of us now have the wonderful opportunity to work with Veterans in the VA Hospital system as Occupational Therapists.
Jamie purchased this bungalow in 2009
San Antonio, the Downtown area, and specifically the King William District are truly unique and interesting places. We jumped at the chance to own a piece of San Antonio. Shortly after purchasing the property we began to redesign and renovate the landscaping and architecture to create a private, beautiful, and inspired space for our guests to enjoy within the heart of the city and walking distance to Riverwalk and Alamo.
A wonderfully located oasis within walking distance of some of San Antonio's best restaurants. You will enjoy your own private courtyard, a remote controlled privacy gate, and a thoughtfully designed and well-appointed 2 bedroom, 2 bath open floor plan and outdoor living spaces.
We very much enjoyed our stay in San Antonio and in the Bungalow.
Saw many things and ate mountains of chips and salsa!
Highlights of our trip included bikes in Lost Maples State Park and Friedrich Park. We also drove to Aransas National Wildlife Area and saw Whooping Cranes, also Fredricksburg and the National Museum of the Pacific War.
We had wonderful food at Rosario’s (our favorite salsa), Cascabel, and Mad Hattter. Good beer at Blue Star Brewing and the Buckhorn (try Real Ale microbrewery if you can find it).
We enjoyed the Bungalow and the neighborhood. Very comfortable and nice amenities.

Wonderful visit to S.A., local parks (dogs), River Walk, brief stops in Hill Country. Enjoyed Blue Star (brew pub), Mad Hatters, also just “being at home” in such a comfortable open living area, also enjoyed our conversations with Kristin and James and getting to know the neighborhood, seeing King William mansions, breakfast at Guenther House. Hard to leave and back to the cold and snow! Hope to be back in the future.
I didn't think we could have a better experience than we had during our first visit a year ago, but I was wrong!! It was so nice to spend more time enjoying the quiet, tucked away setting of your bungalow and all the amenities that you have provided. Thank you!! Our first visit was so scheduled with outings that we did not get to enjoy all that the bungalow has to offer, so we purposefully scheduled our time differently this visit. Thanks for thinking of all the "little things" and including them in your welcome booklet!
My wife and I love being able to walk to so much of what we enjoy about San Antonio...the restaurants, the riverwalk, the historic areas, the restaurants, the Alamo, the downtown museums, and then back to the restaurants. Thank you too for your recommendations regarding places to eat! We have tried most of them now and each one has been spot on.
Thanks again for the stay; the wonderful accomodations; the cleanliness of everything; and your attention to detail!
It's just exactly as the pictures show! Modern, clean, totally stocked with everything you need. Just like a previous review, I kinda hate to let the secret out! (The other hidden gem in La Focaccia Italian Grill just a few blocks away.) Shhhhh.... Don't tell anyone though...lol!
Just returning from our wkend trip to San Antonio. We typically stay in Hotels when visiting San Antonio for Fiesta. However we were recently introduced to VRBO and found this place. I, along with my partner and our 3 other friends all arrived Friday 04/25/2014. After getting settled in we met with the keeper and of the property. After a quick welcome and introduction he told us whatever we needed to be sure and let him know. I had his number however never needed it for anything. I honestly never seen him after that quick meeting. The house and all the pics are very precise. I would like to mention that I am very picky when it comes to hotels and places like this. However I honestly have no complaints about this place. We enjoyed our whole wkend there and will def be back again. My favorite was the huge tub and stand up shower. We also really enjoyed taking pictures outside in the beautiful landscape.
I would highly recommend anyone looking to rent a vacation property in San Antonio to stay at the Palm Bungalow. It provided my family and me with the perfect base from which to explore the city and surrounding environs. It is exactly as pictured: clean, comfortable, and amply equipped with modern conveniences. The kitchen, in particular, is incredibly functional (cooking Christmas dinner for the family was a breeze).
The bedrooms are very cosy, and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms are spacious and the showers have excellent water pressure and temperature control (if you are anything like me, this is an important detail for any accommodation selection). Because we were staying during an unusually cold winter, we didn't really make use of the outdoor area, but it was well maintained - with a soothing fountain feature, and, at night, colorfully lit up.
In addition, the Bungalow is in an excellent location for exploring downtown San Antonio. The King William neighborhood is replete with attractive houses (I urge those with any interest in architecture, or who simply like peeking into grand homes, to do the walking tour). There are some top-notch restaurants nearby: notably, Bliss (just round the corner) and in the Pearl Brewery (a ten-minute drive away). Moreover, the famous Riverwalk is only fifteen minutes away on foot - a very pleasant stroll indeed.
All in all, the Palm Bungalow is the sort of place that is so inviting that you really feel that you have returned home after a day's outing. Kurt and his wife are attentive without being intrusive - and were very responsive to our questions. Thank you to you both for making our first visit to San Antonio a memorable one.
We arrived to the bungalow to find a slight chill in the evening air and the wonderful scent of burning wood crackling on the fire pit. What a greeting! I knew at this instant this was going to be a wonderful, relaxing stay. We were immediately greeted by the caretaker to see if we needed anything and I was just fine. A complimentary bottle of wine was present with a note...to call if anything is needed. The dogs immediately took to the wonderfully landscaped yard, mom and dad laid down on their comfy beds as we had just spent 8-1/2 hours on the road after arriving here it was all worth it. There were so many things about this place that was so serene, the natural tiled showers and floors, and oh the French door to the patio was my favorite. I frequently left the doors open to allow the dogs to come and go as they pleased. The dining table near my favorite French doors and a cup of coffee and I was set. I love to cook and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you'd ever need. Love the stainless steel work table. The island was a wonderful place for computer work, comfy stools. We all enjoyed the patio and the landscaped yard as best as we could this time of year because of the cool temperatures. The Caretaker made sure to keep our fire pit going. We grilled out, pondered, and relaxed between site seeing. As long and Mom, Dad and the dogs were happy, I was. This bungalow is very spacious--I often looked around and said, "you know...I could live here...even with Mom and Dad." The open floor plan gave me a sense of peace and the space I needed even though my parents and the dogs were near. This place made our San Antonio visit so wonderful. It has been one of the best places I have ever stayed in--even more comfortable than my own place. Thank you all for having the best organic products, materials, fibers, and providing recycle containers. It brings everything to full circle.
This was our first family vacation using HomeAway! This Bungalow was a perfect stay and a pleasant surprise. We (family with teenagers) had a very quiet stay at the Bungalow. Kurt made sure our family was comfortable as there was construction to the front of the property. The construction was not too much of a bother. The construction workers were able to move for us to drive down the driveway. It was a bit muddy because of the weather the week before our arrival. The Bungalow was clean and spacious for our family. We felt welcomed and rested. I would recommend anyone to stay at the Bungalow. It is behind another property but private!! The garden is just beautiful and relaxing. Thanks Kurt and Jamie for such a welcoming property. We stayed a week and loved every minute of it. Our Yorkie baby came with us and she even had a divine time being able to come with your family for vacation. Such an amazing find!! Would definitely stay again!!….as we are returning this November at another property of Kurt and Jamie!!
