My significant other and I searched the internet for a suitable Kauai vacation rental. Some looked dark and cave-like. Some looked like they lacked privacy. Some looked like there would be mosquitos hovering in every nook and cranny. Most advertised a "view" but appeared to have none. Most were out of our price-range. We are low-maintenance people, and have no use for fancy amenities and pampering. This place looked like it would be perfect, and it was. A brief description: It has white carpet throughout, so don't bring muddy feet or shoes inside. This unit has two bathrooms -- one with a shower and one with a tub/shower. Both are nice. We were pleasantly surprised by the many towels, and cute little soaps in boxes. Someone cares that you enjoy your stay here! The hot water is best utilized when fewer people are in the building, so no super long showers or it may not last. The view from all rooms is amazing. You will hear yard work while you are here, but if you are out and about, this should not be an issue. Back to the view…We saw whales while looking out every window in each room (excluding the bathrooms, which for once in Hawaii did not have the best view in the house). There is a small, functional kitchen. It is complete with coffee maker, toaster, toaster oven, microwave, blender, egg beater, oven, -- you name it, it is probably there. The knives and cutting boards were a bit well loved, but useable. There is an old dishwasher that works well -- but be careful not to pull it out of the wall. Also, there's a clothes washer and dryer -- very convenient. This unit is a downstairs unit, and you can occasionally hear people upstairs, but noise is not bad. And, you can just open up the sliding glass doors and step outside onto the patio and then grass. Many mornings, as we sat with the door open, flocks of Nene (Hawaii's state bird, an endangered goose) would fly overhead, land and walk right by. We were also visited by a little Brazilian Cardinal (related to a tanager) on a regular basis. There is a very nice, clean, charcoal grill on the lanai. We used it a couple of times and it worked well. Although there is no hot-tub, the pool is nice for cooling off on a hot day. The parking is very convenient too. Also, the home owner and local managers are very nice -- good people. We really enjoyed our stay.
