Photos and Description of the Albuquerque vacation house rental
1 bedroom, 1 full bathrooms, sleeps 2

Casa de Paiz is a classic, cozy split-level 1100 sqare foot adobe home, sitting on a secluded 1 acre wooded lot at the north end of the Sandia Mountains, within easy driving distance from Santa Fe and Albuquerque. It's a perfect couple's getaway featuring a large and luxurious master bedroom with a king-size bed,and a decorative kiva fireplace, large bathroom with separate tub and shower, new complete kitchen, nice views from large windows, a covered patio in front next to the lily pond, and a very private patio outside the master bedroom. The bedroom and den both have flat screen LCD TV's, with access to Netflix and Hulu streaming movies and TV shows. A double size futon sofa-bed could be used by a 3rd and 4th guest.

Enjoy the cool breeze in the shade of the portale waiting for hummingbirds to visit the flowers and dragonflies to visit the lily pond, or the beautiful view of the Jemez Mountains 40 miles away while sunbathing on the bedroom patio.

Recreation and outdoor adventure opportunities abound in the area, with the 10,600 foot Sandia Mountains at hand with winter snow sports and summer mountain biking and many miles of hiking trails. And the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, featuring hundreds of colorful hot air balloons from around the world, is held in early October and is just 20 minutes away.

Stargazing is exceptional on clear nights because the Albuquerque city lights are hidden behind the mountain.

Nearby Indian Pueblos offer excellent golf courses, casino gambling and entertainment venues. Throughout the year Pueblos have traditional dances that are open to the public.

Experience the colorful Southwestern culture, unique shopping opportunities and fine dining in Santa Fe and Albuquerque Old Town, both an easy drive from Placitas. But there are great restaurants close by as well in Placitas and the town of Bernalillo.

Your hosts Joel and Mary Lou live nearby in Albuquerque (35 minutes away) and are readily available to help make your stay very enjoyable and comfortable.

Charming Mountain Retreat

5 of 5
Submitted: March 28, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
If proximity to the city, yet enjoying New Mexico's nature and beautiful mountains is what you want...stay here!! My wife and I used this cozy and clean Adobe as our "base camp" and ventured out for hours every day. We bought a few groceries, and made ourselves "at home". Having the ipod player was the perfect touch. I would highly recommend many of the "National Monuments" that seem to litter the southwest :) Bandelier National Monument, Valles Caldera National Preserve, Tent Rocks, El Malpais, and definitely El Morro...all Parks and Monuments. They are incredible to hike and explore, and all within 2 hours of the Adobe!

Wonderful Getaway

The place was beautiful. It was clean and well stocked with all of the kitchen utensils and spices we needed. The bed was firm but quite comfortable. We loved sitting on the porch and watching all of the birds. It was very peaceful out there. We are used to condos and hotels, so having the privacy of just the two of us on a gated property was really cool. The weather was beautiful. The air was crisp and clean. I'd love to stay up there again.

The grocery store just down the hill from the house is well stocked. We managed to find 2 ingredients we needed for our menu that our big box,big city groceries did not have. The also have a very nice selection of meals premade in their deli as well as a great wine slection. We hauled all of our food across country which in retrospect was probably not necessary. Also the Blades Bistro restaurant in the same shopping center was pretty spectacular. We consider our selfs foodies and this place was a real surprise.

We visited the hot air ballon museum which was cool and I imagine if you were traveling with children would be a big hit. The tram to the top of Sandia peak is a must do. The view is awesome, and for us playing in the snow alone was worth the price of admission. My fiance had a great time shopping in Old Town Albuqueque as well as downtown Santa Fe. Being a reasonable drive from both cities was a big plus. I'll also recommend Gruet winery, IV The Bath (shop in Old Town), and The Shed (restaurant in downtown Santa Fe).

Placitas Review

We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the location in the foothills of the Sandias. The house is charming, well maintained, and very comfortable, a lovely retreat for reading, watching old movies, and generally relaxing. From there we were able to hike, explore Albuquerque, and Sante Fe, and their many fine restaurants. We would recommend ZS&T's, High Noon, and El Pinto for fine New Mexican dining in Albuquerque. In Sante Fe La Sena is our favorite. Attractions we enjoyed were the Hispanic Culture Center including the new tower, and the Petroglyphs in Albuquerque and the Georgia O'Keefe Museum in Santa Fe. The owners were responsive to our needs. We would easily recommend this special place.

mid October get-away

We had a great time!! The house is wonderful and very peaceful as is the natural setting surrounding it. Great hiking is only a short drive up the hill on a dirt road. If you look carefully you will see fossils in the sedimentary rock. The house was clean and cozy and the owners were helpful & friendly. There are many great day trips less than an hour's drive away. I really enjoyed watching the birds out the front door while I drank my morning coffee. Oh and keep an eye out for the wild horses too! The only complaint I have is that it felt so comfortable there, it was hard to get an early start to the day. I would recommend this house to my friends and family.

We spent 10 days in this lovely, well-equipped home. The computer and printer were a real plus and came in very handy for purchasing and printing online balloon fiesta tickets. We enjoyed the quiet as well as the many birds and fish pond. We walked everyday and enjoyed the beautiful changing colors. It was fun to see the wild horses. This is a great place for a get-a-way from the rush of the city.
