About Tim O'Donoghue

Bernadette and Tim O’Donoghue met in The Windy City of Chicago a few years back. We acquired the property in 2002. We then returned from Chicago in 2004.

Bernadette was a paralegal secretary and is now a stay at home Mom and an excellent baker, I am an electrician by trade but got into construction during my 14 years in Chicago. I restored several old houses and classic vintage apartment buildings during my time there. I coupled this experience with Bernadette’s keen eye and interior design savvy to create some wonderful finishes and unusual touches. We began the colossal rehab project in 2004 to restore the Priory to its former glory ,it was basically completed it in 2007 or is it ever complete I like to ask myself ?

We pride ourselves in welcoming you into our place.

Tim O'Donoghue purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Tim O'Donoghue chose Killarney

I grew up in Killarney, where my parents owned a camping site and I truly loved meeting visitors on a daily basis. We have 4 children and we wanted to raise them here in Ireland, so we said we would give it a shot and here we are. When this property became available we realized how unique it was and what a fantastic opportunity it would be to own The Priory.

What makes this cottage unique

We are in a key location,a ten minute walk from town but it feels like we are in the heart of the countryside where you cannot hear a sound by night.

You will get a quiet private house to yourself where you can come and go as you please. You can cook when you want and have the full use of the 1.5 acre property on private grounds. You can sit back and relax in the front of the open hearth fire sipping a nice Irish whiskey or reading a good book with the sweet smell of turf burning away.

Each cottage has a Jacuzzi you can slip into and soothe the soul after a hectic day.

You will get the real feel of Irish living and live like we live ourselves while visiting in your home away from home.

We are on site owners who are here to help you in any way you require and assure a wonderful stay. We have invaluable knowledge about the local area from cultural information to hikes, local food joints to off the beaten track drives. We can organize in-house chef, or poetry recital or to a music session.

We like to tell our guests ''We are as near or as far as you wish.'

Delightful homebase to see County Kerry

  • 5 of 5

Tim and Bernadette were most gracious hosts. They checked in several times throughout our week long stay to see how things were going. One of the days I was trying to make some kindling out of larger logs and Tim showed me where there was an available supply. When we initially arrived they also made sure we knew where everything was and suggested how we could spend our time.

What I wish I had known before booking - Town is too far away to walk.

What delightfully surprised me - The easy access to amazing places in Killarney, you don't even need to go far to enjoy everything.

Spectacular Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival to the Priory, one is immediately impressed with the courtyard, water feature, and the gardens. The Coach House has an old world charm with its all stone structure dating back to the 1800's. It has been expertly upgraded to also include all modern amenities including washer, dryer, dishwasher, etc. Tim and Bernadette were wonderful hosts and we hope to return again!!

What a great way to get to know Ireland!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have felt more welcome. Everything was clean and ready for us to move right in. We immediately knew we had found a most remarkable location nestled in a wonderful residential neighborhood and yet close to the attractions of Killarney and County Kerry. This is the perfect base from which to explore the Ring of Kerry, the Beara Peninsula, the Killarney National Park, Muckross House and so much more. And after a day of exploring it is delightful to come home to a warm fire, a glass of wine and a fully equipped kitchen where we could prepare a little dinner. Finally, the neighborhood pub is just a short walk for a nightcap. What more could anyone ever want.

Valentine getaway

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic property, ideally located to access Killarney town without a car to enjoy the night life, a lovely welcome by Tim and his wife who gave us warm home baked scones on our first morning, little touches mean a lot. Tim's fire making lesson ensured the peat burner roared every evening and was fantastic. Will always be a special place as a valentines proposal was accepted in the coach house, yippee. Wouldn't hesitate to return and look forward to next visit. Book now and you won't be disappointed.

Awesome Week

  • 5 of 5

We cannot believe it's been a little over a month since we were in Killarney, in front of the fire, eating at the pubs, attending events at the INEC, walking the streets in Killarney. We truly enjoyed the Coach House, the peace and quiet, the superior detail shown in every corner. BTW, the wifi is to die far if you like to be connected. We used the wif to watch movies on our iPads. The river nearby, the steady rush of water over the stones, Ross Castle, the small parks throughout the town, the long walks through Killarney National Park--all absolutely delightful memories. Thanks to the O'Donohughes. We'll be back!!

Picture perfect

  • 5 of 5

The Priory was the perfect place, from the adorable living arrangements to the accommodating hosts we had the ideal week. The Priory has the peaceful quiet of the country while being close enough to downtown for a healthy walk to enjoy the great pubs of Killarney. Opening Night of the horse races was a real treat and again was just a stone's throw down the road. The host was extremely helpful with information on routes, local eateries, and the roads less traveled. After long days of golf and sight seeing the Priory was an inviting spot to gather and retell stories of our daily adventures. This was one of our favorite family vacation spots and we all look forward to coming back.
