About Penny Erwin

We vacationed here several years ago and fell in love with the cabin, the beautiful views, diversity of outdoor activities, wonderful restaurants, entertaining shows, and multitude of shopping venues. We are a family who loves to spend time together. We are residents of Alabama but our family ancestry and heritage hails from Tennessee. We feel like we're at home when staying at our cabin.

Penny Erwin purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Penny Erwin chose Pigeon Forge

This house has one of the best views in Wears Valley sitting high atop Hatcher Mountain with 180 degrees unobstructed visibility. We also love the comfort & beauty of the house itself. Finally, the location of the home is ideal because of it's seclusion and proximity to Pigeon Forge, Great Smokey Mountains National Park, and Gatlinburg. We never want to leave but we enjoy sharing our special mountain getaway with others. We want our guests to have the same experience as we do when we stay in the Smokey Mountains!

What makes this cabin unique

Our location high atop Hatcher Mountain makes this cabin unique because of the beautiful unobstructed views of Cove Mountain and Wears Valley. The comfortable rocking chairs on our large wrap-around deck allow you to sit back and relax with family and friends in complete privacy. The air is so clean and refreshing! We love grilling out on the deck, relaxing in the hot tub, or listening to music while watching the sun set over the mountain skyline. The early morning yields spectacular views above the mist covered valley floor. It's truly a magical experience!

Outstanding Mountian Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have been more pleased with our trip to the Smokey Mountains. We arrived late afternoon and immediately felt like we were home. The property is exactly as described and even more beautiful in person. The view is simply amazing, and you just can't quit looking at it the entire time that you are there. Waking up in the loft bedroom and looking out at the mountain every morning is a special treat. Everything you could want or need is supplied in the cabin. Penny and her family have really made sure that your vacation is perfect in every way. We were on the go all week, but couldn't wait to get back in the evenings and curl up by the fire and plan our next excursion. The cabin is furnished beautifully and looks like a picture in a magazine. Penny and Charles are amazing to work, with and they made sure our trip was perfect from beginning to end. We had a great week and saw all of the tourist attractions that we could fit into one week. Our very favorite breakfast was Crockett's 1875 Breakfast Camp in Gatlinburg. Do yourself a favor and go there at least once while you are there. Order the Thick Aretha Frankenstein's Pancakes. You will never find another pancake like it anywhere. Our favorite dinner was at The Best Italian Restaurant also in Gatlinburg. It's a little hard to find back in a little plaza off the main road but well worth the effort to look for it. Also, be sure and stop in to Cakes by Bakin Bishop on your way home. The cupcakes are out of this world and Shannon is one of the sweetest people we have ever met.

If you have looked through endless numbers of cabins like I did, trying to make a decision on where to stay, PICK THIS ONE! You will not be sorry!

A sight to see

  • 3 of 5

Owners were great and responsive from moment we inquired about cabins till we arrived. we enjoyed our stay greatly and the cabin was well stocked and sight was even better than pictured. however upon arrival we noticed a large amount of lady bugs. I contacted owner by voicemail and text and never received any response at all. Still have not received a call back. We were able to get rid of the majority on our own but they kept showing up throughout our stay. We also discovered the sheets had not been washed. We washed them ourselves since there is a washer there but it was frustrating to find this when we were ready for bed. The grill was not cleaned well but we did not use it. I would recommend this cabin with one exception. I think the owners need to reevaluate their cleaners.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the honest review! I think there was a problem with the phone number you called and texted because I never received these! If I had, I would have answered and dealt with your issues immediately! Lady bugs are a big problem there and obviously they love our cabin because they come every year! I apologize for them and we are going to attempt to fill in cracks and under doors soon! In reference to sheets being dirty, I will contact the cleaning company immediately! We have never had this happen before, I am so sorry you had to deal with this! It is unacceptable and there is no excuse. I sincerely apologize. We hope you will come again in the future. Addendum: After speaking with guest, I was able to let her know I did not receive her text or voicemail, and apologize in person. and was relieved to find out the sheets only had a strong perfume smell, possibly from the cleaning person. I will make sure she does not wear scents again! The Lady bug issue was major, and we will work hard to try to get this under better control! Addendum 2: I discovered I had accidentally blocked her telephone number, that is why I never got her calls or text, I feel absolutely terrible! I'm have called her and apologized. My IPhone is on my bad list! I will add a second number on all correspondence from now on.

Excellent View and Great Owner Attention

  • 5 of 5

From our original inquiries about the cabin, the attention given to us by Penny, the owner, was top notch. We were happy to find a cabin in the area that was not part of a resort, and enjoyed the cabin privacy.

We arrived on a “dark and stormy” night just after Christmas, but our arrival at the cabin was warm and found everything well appointed, which quickly helped to settle nerves after a drive on the dark, wet mountain roads.

Being from Florida, I was nervous about the mountain roads, the ascent to the cabin, and winter weather. The great view from the cabin does require some mountain roads and a narrow one lane road the last quarter to half mile to the cabin. However, we managed the road just fine in our oversized 12 passenger Nissan van, but ice and snow may have been a different matter.

The cabin was very well appointed for everything we needed for our trip of three adults and six children (ages from 2-14), and there was plenty of room to spread out. The Christmas decorations were a wonderful touch, integrated throughout the cabin. All appliances, TVs, hottub, etc., worked as advertised. We enjoyed long day trips in the area and evenings making dinner in and enjoying games (both ones we brought and some from the cabin assortment). The kitchen was well stocked for everything needed for big breakfasts and dinners in. Grandma enjoyed the upstairs bedroom, waking to the great view, and the main floor master bedroom was very comfortable with the sleep number bed.

The family really enjoyed the area, especially the National Park. While we did spend a day in Gatlinburg and enjoyed the Ripley’s Aquarium, we would avoid that area on our next trip to TN. We did not spend much time in Pigeon Forge, other than our shopping trips. We will allow more time for the Outlets on our next trip and may check out a couple sites around Pigeon Forge. Aside from the family time, the sightseeing and hiking was the highlight of the trip. The family especially enjoyed Cades Cove and the trip to Newfound Gap where we stopped to play in the snow. Our hiking was focused on trips that the whole group could do (from 2 years old to 58) and chose Laural Falls, Metcalf Bottoms Trail (Little Brier Gap), and the Middle Prong Trail (listed as Penny’s favorite hike in her Welcome Package) as well as some other short hikes. I do recommend you spend some time reviewing Penny’s Welcome Package as well as checking out Trip Advisor and

Peaceful and Serene

  • 5 of 5

Our family stay was fabulous! "A Sight To See" is convenient to tourist attractions but far away from the tourist places to experience peace away from it all. The view from the loft at night was breath taking and then to wake up to those beautiful Smoky Mountains! The cabin's amenities were more than expected and we felt as though we were family of the Erwins. It seemed so together for just us! The little store less than a mile away was very convenient also. The memories we made were just what we needed as we rediscovered why we love each other so much! We hope to visit again! The Erwins personal touch and honesty of reviews and amenities are more than we have ever had anywhere. Thanks for a heavenly view in an earthly moment of our lives.

Our family of 5 from southern Indiana (children 6,10, and 14) and my parents had a remarkable and unforgettable 3 night stay at "A Sight To See". The "ooo's" and "ahhhs" lasted from the moment we walked in the door until the minute we left! From the stunning views, to the spaciousness and neatness of your home, the games for our kids, and the "extras", y'all thought of so many little things. The conveniences that were included significantly added to the overall outstanding experience. Your restaurant and recreation recommendations were on the money; the instructions for operating televisions, the hot tub placement, ease of operation of the grill, ....I could go on....

The overall organization and presentation was first class! My 6 year old son woke up the last day of our stay and said, "Dad, do we really have to leave? I wish we could stay"...he said what we all were thinking! We are already planning our next stay (which will be for a week minimum- if available).

We picked this rental because after doing diligent research on reviews, I found that 100% of your reviews were high stars! We experienced 5 stars! We were equally impressed and cannot wait to come back! We spent hours on your wonderful large wrap around deck in very comfortable rocking chairs, smiling and laughing at how surreal the scenery was- absolutely gorgeous!!! Like others have said, its the best view in the Smokys! My father is aging and it was a very special time to see him enjoy himself with my kids, in an absolutely amazing cabin. Thank you for ALL YOU DO to make this cabin wonderful and available!

God Bless!
