Overview

Roussillon House Rental Photos and Description

Village house with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with panoramic view

The Villa Rouge is located in the heart of the village, right next to the Main square and the many restaurants and cafés, galleries and shops. Everything you need is just a short-walk away: the bakery, butcher, supermarket, tobacco store, post-office, doctor and chemist’s shop. Luberon offers you the best of Provence : a sweet climate, many cultural sites to visit, as well as an authentic nature, delicious local products, and a craftsmanship to discover.

The Villa was built in 1849, in the typical architecture of Luberon. Perched on the hill-top, you’ll benefit from an exceptional panoramic view on the Mont Ventoux, the famous mountain in the French artist Paul Cezanne’s paintings, as well as on the plateau of Vaucluse, the ochre quarries and surrounding vineyards.

Its decor, inspired by Provençal style, is authentic and sophisticated, and offers great comfort. The villa has 3 rooms, one of them a Suite. Each room has a bathroom (a shower for both rooms and a bathtub for the Suite). The vast lounge of 60m² is very bright and perfect to relax in. You can browse through the books put at your disposal. There is WIFI connection, Apple TV, video games, CD and MP3 players, games and books.

The house revolves around its “cathedral” kitchen, fully equipped. Located on the ground floor, it has an incredible view on the surroundings. You can welcome there a dozen of guests, and make of it the high-light of your culinary and wine delights.

Outside, there is a big patio, decorated with flowers and plants. Two pergolas allow you to have lunch or rest in the shade. You can also cool in the stone pool, warmed if necessary (4m x 4m). It is equipped with an alarm.

VERY IMPORTANT - You have at your disposal a garage and a laundry with a washing machine, a dryer and a washing line.

The house offers the perfect combination to guarantee you an unforgettable stay in the Luberon : a perfect location in a mythical village, with all the needed shops.

Why Sandra Delesvaux chose Roussillon

The village of Roussillon is one of most beautiful of France and the second most visited in the Luberon after the village of Gordes. With its festival of ochre colors and hill-top position, it is one of Provence’s jewels. It is hard to depict the true splendor of Roussillon. 17 shades of Ochre paint the village’s houses. Imagine the amazing contrast with the green pines, blue sky and red cliffs…

Roussillon, with its history, vineyards and unique location, is the French savoir-vivre at its best.

In the region of Provence, between the mountains of the Luberon and the Vaucluse, Roussillon sparkles with ochred light. Discover this unique mineral treasure of surprising blazing colors, right in the heart of the world’s most important ochre deposit.

What makes this house unique

To visit : the XIth century parochial church Saint Michel, the tower of the ancient ramparts, with a gothic passage and XIXth century bell tower, Saint Jean castle, the mill, the Ochre and Applied Pigments Conservatory located in a former ochre manufacture.

Recommended activities : the ochre trail (entrance fee) will lead you to the 'Giants' Causeway', walking through natural chimneys and several majestic sites carved by water, wind and man.

Provençal market : Thursday morning.

Festivities : the Ochre Day celebrations on Ascension Day. Traditional cow feria on the last sunday of July. International festival of string quartets in the summer. Illumination of the cliffs during the summer. Many exhibitions from April to October

The Edge of Heaven

  • 5 of 5
A wonderful place for a family vacation! We spent a week in Paris prior to arriving in Roussillon and to this beautiful home. We wondered why we had not shortened our visit in Paris and spent more time here. The town is small, warm, and intoxicating. Our three children (16, 15, 12) and my wife and I just loved it. Easy access to the Luberon amenities and the charm of Roussillon. The house was perfect in every way. The outdoor area with pool, grill, and dining created so many memories for our family. The kitchen and living area was fully equipped with everything we needed. Sandra and her husband were thoughtful enough to think of every little detail that a family would need on vacation. The cleanliness of the home was pristine and the loving care of a family's touch could be seen everywhere. We would love to return and we are telling all of our friends that this is the place to stay!

Heavenly!

Sandra, the owner, made the booking process so easy and everything was without a hassle. She was so helpful and offered us lots of good tips. We had our 'wow' moment from the very first moment we arrived at the villa and we knew we were going to enjoy our stay here. A warm welcome note and lovely bottle of Rose from Sandra awaited us was a lovely touch. The was stylish, spacious and yet very homely. Everything was done to the high standard, beddings, kitchen utensils - anything and everything! The 3 bedrooms are each with ensuite bathrooms filled with natural light. Everyday we always looked forward to coming back to the villa after enjoying our days sightseeing or wine tasting. In fact, we made a point to leave one afternoon free so we can enjoy the villa. The large living room and outdoor terrace allowing each to find our own cosy corner. The villa can easily accommodate 6 adults and 2 children. There is also a good collection of books and DVDs. The villa location is superb with everything close by - bakery, restaurant, market, and shops. The view from the terrace is to die for! Sandra also paid us a visit - another nice personal touch and gave us a chance to thank her for the wonderful stay we had. We certainly would recommend the villa and would love to return again.

Perfect house to explore Roussillon & surroundings

Perfect house to explore Roussillon & surroundings
  • 5 of 5
This house was great for 3 couples by providing enough privacy for everyone to feel comfortable during a week together. Besides the 3 bedrooms, each with a nearby bathrooms of its own, the courtyard and living areas were expansive enough to allow you to feel you weren't tripping over each other. The view was spectacular from the courtyard and the kitchen was well equipped to turn out delicious meals. The house is close to the center of Roussillon but the privacy provided by the orientation of the courtyard made us feel we were out in the countryside. The house is 50 meters from a number of restaurants and within 200 meters of all the food shops you need to stock the larder. We were there for a week and all agreed we could have stayed much longer without tiring of the house or Roussillon. If you are planning on traveling around the area and have a car, the garage is a big benefit (will hold a Ford MiniVan). The one suggestion we have is a thermal blanket over the dipping pool to bring the temperature up would be appreciated as even in July the winds can be brisk.

Owner's Response: Thank you Richard! I'm so happy you had a good time in Roussillon.
It's so sad for the blanket. We have one and I forgot to show you where it was.
Thank you again for the review!

'La Villa Rouge' is a house in the village of Roussillon, classified as « one of the most beautiful villages of France ».

Only half an hour away from Avignon’s TGV (rapid train) train station, and in the middle of the natural park of the Luberon, this is the perfect place to plan an unforgettable and authentic stay.

The village is built at the top of an ochre cliff, and provides visitors with a beautiful understanding of the harmonious combination of man and nature, and of ochre and stone. Harmonious juxtaposition of tiled roofs, ochre-washed façades, and green nature. Roussillon was long specialised in the mining of the natural pigments contained in the ochre lands - and only stopped with the advent of synthetic products. Today you can explore the history of the ochre mines by visiting the 'Conservatoire des Ocres et des Couleurs' set up in a former ochre factory. Learn all about the use of ochres, and take part in classes. There is also the ochre path (fee charged) in the heart of the old ochre quarries, great for seeing the beauty of the site and the many shades of colours. There are lots of cycling opportunities - see the itinerary in 'Les Ocres à vélo' which takes you through the colourful beauty of the Luberon.

Do not miss: the stairs and streets in the old village, the vaulted passageways, lovely homes from the 17th and 18th centuries, the cliff which provides fabulous views with an orientation table; the clock tower and its campanile; the vestiges of the ramparts, partially rebuilt in modern times, the remains of the 10th century castle, re-used in other constructions
