BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE HOUSE TO RENT IN ROUSSILLON

Roussillon House Rental Photos and Description

Village house with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with panoramic view

The Villa Rouge is located in the heart of the village, right next to the Main square and the many restaurants and cafés, galleries and shops. Everything you need is just a short-walk away: the bakery, butcher, supermarket, tobacco store, post-office, doctor and chemist’s shop. Luberon offers you the best of Provence : a sweet climate, many cultural sites to visit, as well as an authentic nature, delicious local products, and a craftsmanship to discover.

The Villa was built in 1849, in the typical architecture of Luberon. Perched on the hill-top, you’ll benefit from an exceptional panoramic view on the Mont Ventoux, the famous mountain in the French artist Paul Cezanne’s paintings, as well as on the plateau of Vaucluse, the ochre quarries and surrounding vineyards.

Its decor, inspired by Provençal style, is authentic and sophisticated, and offers great comfort. The villa has 3 rooms, one of them a Suite. Each room has a bathroom (a shower for both rooms and a bathtub for the Suite). The vast lounge of 60m² is very bright and perfect to relax in. You can browse through the books put at your disposal. There is WIFI connection, Apple TV, video games, CD and MP3 players, games and books.

The house revolves around its “cathedral” kitchen, fully equipped. Located on the ground floor, it has an incredible view on the surroundings. You can welcome there a dozen of guests, and make of it the high-light of your culinary and wine delights.

Outside, there is a big patio, decorated with flowers and plants. Two pergolas allow you to have lunch or rest in the shade. You can also cool in the stone pool, warmed if necessary (4m x 4m). It is equipped with an alarm.

VERY IMPORTANT - You have at your disposal a garage and a laundry with a washing machine, a dryer and a washing line.

The house offers the perfect combination to guarantee you an unforgettable stay in the Luberon : a perfect location in a mythical village, with all the needed shops.

In charge of the rentals in the agency Luberon Sotheby's in Gordes, I live in Roussillon and I really felt in love for this village!

Sandra Delesvaux purchased this house in 2012

The village of Roussillon is one of most beautiful of France and the second most visited in the Luberon after the village of Gordes. With its festival of ochre colors and hill-top position, it is one of Provence’s jewels. It is hard to depict the true splendor of Roussillon. 17 shades of Ochre paint the village’s houses. Imagine the amazing contrast with the green pines, blue sky and red cliffs…

Roussillon, with its history, vineyards and unique location, is the French savoir-vivre at its best.

In the region of Provence, between the mountains of the Luberon and the Vaucluse, Roussillon sparkles with ochred light. Discover this unique mineral treasure of surprising blazing colors, right in the heart of the world’s most important ochre deposit.

To visit : the XIth century parochial church Saint Michel, the tower of the ancient ramparts, with a gothic passage and XIXth century bell tower, Saint Jean castle, the mill, the Ochre and Applied Pigments Conservatory located in a former ochre manufacture.

Recommended activities : the ochre trail (entrance fee) will lead you to the 'Giants' Causeway', walking through natural chimneys and several majestic sites carved by water, wind and man.

Provençal market : Thursday morning.

Festivities : the Ochre Day celebrations on Ascension Day. Traditional cow feria on the last sunday of July. International festival of string quartets in the summer. Illumination of the cliffs during the summer. Many exhibitions from April to October

Nearby : the typical Provençal markets of Gordes (20min) - tuesday morning

The farmer market of Coustellet (15mn) - sunday morning

The secondhand market in the town of Isle on Sorgue (15min) - saturday and sunday morning

Hiking in the natural reserve of the Luberon

Golf de Saumane (20min)

Canoening at Fontaine de Vaucluse (20mn)

'La Villa Rouge' is a house in the village of Roussillon, classified as « one of the most beautiful villages of France ».

Only half an hour away from Avignon’s TGV (rapid train) train station, and in the middle of the natural park of the Luberon, this is the perfect place to plan an unforgettable and authentic stay.

The village is built at the top of an ochre cliff, and provides visitors with a beautiful understanding of the harmonious combination of man and nature, and of ochre and stone. Harmonious juxtaposition of tiled roofs, ochre-washed façades, and green nature. Roussillon was long specialised in the mining of the natural pigments contained in the ochre lands - and only stopped with the advent of synthetic products. Today you can explore the history of the ochre mines by visiting the 'Conservatoire des Ocres et des Couleurs' set up in a former ochre factory. Learn all about the use of ochres, and take part in classes. There is also the ochre path (fee charged) in the heart of the old ochre quarries, great for seeing the beauty of the site and the many shades of colours. There are lots of cycling opportunities - see the itinerary in 'Les Ocres à vélo' which takes you through the colourful beauty of the Luberon.

Do not miss: the stairs and streets in the old village, the vaulted passageways, lovely homes from the 17th and 18th centuries, the cliff which provides fabulous views with an orientation table; the clock tower and its campanile; the vestiges of the ramparts, partially rebuilt in modern times, the remains of the 10th century castle, re-used in other constructions
