Vieques Island Villa Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 5

Luxury villa on Vieques Island offers spectacular ocean views and modern accommodations with 3 deluxe bedrooms, new gorgeous pool with panaoramic ocean views, large outdoor living space & terrace and passion fruit, guava and coconut garden. The villa has 3 air-conditioned bedrooms that offer 2 queen beds, and 1 twin, brand new glass tiled bathroom, comfortable living room, kitchen with stainless steel appliances and flat screen TVs in many rooms. The large outdoor living area with additional living room & dining room offers sweeping views of St Thomas, Puerto Rico and Culebra. Wild horses roam on the beach at the bottom of our hill. The villa is fully equipped with luxury linens and towels, all kitchen & cooking appliances/utensils, DVDs, music, games, beach chairs, coolers, BBQ, etc.

World’s brightest bioluminescent bay: The largest of the Spanish Virgin Islands resting between St. Thomas and Puerto Rico, Vieques is a paradise we are excited to share. We’ve been frequent visitors to this beautiful island and believe it is truly a special place. In addition to the great beaches and fantastic sunsets, Vieques has one of the world’s brightest bioluminescent bays, often called the eighth wonder of the world. We encourage all of our guests to experience the bio-bay via boat or kayak. You’ll see the water splash up in a burst of millions of lights and if you decide to swim, you will move through the water like a golden angel with thousands of sparkling lights running off your body.

About Vieques: Vieques or La Isla Nena, is about the size of Manhattan (21 miles long and 5 miles across) and has approximately 9,000 residents. For years the US Navy controlled the majority of the island yet only utilized a small portion for the controversial firing ranges and air maneuvers. In 2003 the Navy closed the ranges and turned three-quarters of the island back over to the public as the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge. The preserve holds a rich variety of habitats, pristine white sand beaches, lagoons, mangrove wetlands as well as a strip of subtropical dry forest. Ironically it was the presence of the Navy that actually saved the island from run away development. Now the island remains largely undeveloped with pristine white sand beaches, wild horses, mangroves and native flora.

How to Get to Vieques: Many airlines have direct flights to San Juan International Airport. No passport is required. From San Juan there are two ways to arrive in Vieques, by plane or ferry. The following airlines fly to Vieques: The second way to Vieques is to take a taxi to the ferry. Taxis pick you up in front of the airport and will bring you to the town of Fajardo where the ferry departs. The 1 hour taxi ride and 1 hour ferry ride is available for adults and children. We recommend the rental of a Jeep or similar vehicle so that you can explore some of the remote parts of the island. The rental cars are not perfect due to the condition of some of the roads on the island so expect a comfortable vehicle in imperfect condition.

Hilltop heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Hilltop Hacienda was a fun escape from the long Mn winter - and made as smooth as possible by the very friendly, prompt and courteous assistance of the owners and the property manager.

Sadly - we were a day late due to Cape Air cancelling our flight the day before we left and being overbooked on the next two evening flights. Our guests had similar cancellation and flight change experiences with Cape Air and I gather it is SOP for that carrier. If you are coming to Vieques - be prepared for travel changes and perhaps allow extra long connection times.

But the owner and manager were helpful and we were met at the airport. We loved the villa and the views. We were in the upper 3 BR and spent all of our time on the outdoor porch. I needed to work throughout the trip and found the internet working well - most of the time.

The home was very thoughtfully appointed with new and clean cooking utensils, nice towels - and best yet - several beach chairs , umbrellas and coolers so we could explore a different beach each day. I can't tell you if the tv works as we never felt the need for any entertainment besides looking at the sea and sky and watching the occasional "break-ins" by the rambling horses and a little colt that delighted in sneaking through the fence to the manager's yard across the way.

The weather and water was perfect for our entire stay. The pool by the villa was sparkling clean and made for a great place to relax in the sun and take the occasional dip.

We toured with Jaks in glass bottom kayaks and had a magical night in the bio bay. I rented a bike - and tho many of the roads are narrow - found the local drivers courteous and not "scary" to a cyclist.

The food and drink prices were reasonable at many of the restaurants and little stands. Most nights we picked something up so we could come back and enjoy the porch and view. If there was any drawback - I would note that the various local dogs and roosters can announce their presence - and anyone troubled by that noise will gripe a bit when you are sleeping. I found it part of the charm and "we're not at home anymore" part of the neighborhood and enjoyed the sound of waves most of the days and evenings. As a dog lover - there were several little cuties I wanted to take home in my carry on.

All in all - the four adults at the villa loved our stay and would like to be repeat customers.

Relaxing vacation, beautiful island

  • 5 of 5

we stayed along with our children ages 5 & 7 for two weeks and had the most relaxing time.

The children lived in the pool every morning and then we would travel to one of the beautiful beaches and enjoy a cocktail and beautiful sunset.

Renee, the manager greeted us at the airport and helped us with any questions throughout our stay.

The villas balcony with its fabulous views was wonderful and so relaxing to sit on each morning and evening. However it would have been nice to have the option of a little more living space i.e. downstairs as sometimes it felt a little cramped for a family.

However the positioning of the villa and the use of the pool made up for this.

we thoroughly enjoyed Vieques and the people were so friendly and hospitable, so much so we are considering returning around christmas (if the villa is free ;))

Breezy house with great views

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Hilltop Hacienda. We were treated with fresh flowers, a mango from the yard and Pina Colada mix as a house warming gift. The house was clean and well kept. We stayed on the top floor and had great views of the beach and sunsets. Sitting high on the hill, we could see Culebra, St Croix and the main island. Trade winds blew steady and we never needed the air conditioner, but we did enjoy the small pool which got sun all day long. The house had comfortable beds, plenty of closet space and all the gear you need for the stay, from blender to beach chairs. No one had rented the bottom unit at the house the week we were there, so we had a private secure place to enjoy Vieques from. Randy and Rara were great property managers. They waited at airport to pick us up after a flight delay and showed us the island. They had great recommendations and checked in with us a couple of times to make sure everything was going well for us. I would definitely recommend Hilltop Hacienda!

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us and we are so happy that you enjoyed Vieques. If you find yourselves back in Vieques, please visit us again. As you know the villa can accommodate a smaller group upstairs or a larger group in the whole villa, but you'll always have your privacy as we only ever rent to one party at a time. All the best, Rick & Heidi

Amazing week at the Hilltop Hacienda

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a great week at the Hilltop Hacienda. This was our first vacation with our one year old. Rick was terrific about making sure our questions were answered and was incredibly accommodating. The house itself was beautiful. We loved the pool and easy access to the local beach, but most of all, the views from the terrace were the best we'd ever seen. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

great property, friendly and very helpful owners. we really enjoyed our time here. the open air patio was nice to have breakfast on or a dinner and drink in the evening. comfortable beds and overall comfortable accommodations. we really appreciated the extra gear being available: snorkel equipment, coolers, and beach umbrellas. the location is quiet and the view is excellent. the beach near the house is great to spend time at and it's a short drive to one of vieques' many other beautiful beaches. we highly recommend staying here.

10 Stars!!

  • 5 of 5

If I could Double my 5-stars, i would! Wow, firstly, we have been PR and to a decent handful of Caribbean islands. Vieques truly is, as Rick said, special. !!! There are literally all sorts wonderful and happy animals roaming the island. I say happy bc, they really seem to be in their own unbothered life and zone, they live freely and quite content-looking -- the dogs, the few birds, cats, and the beautiful wild horses. !!!

The sea water is calm and clear and amazing. There are even, if you walk along the shores not even iN a bioluminescence area at night, there are amazing, magical teeny biolumiescent dots of organisms washing up near your feet on occasion.

We went to the main bistro in Isabel nearby, almost every day for lunch and some dinners. It was probably some of the Best food I've had [ and we have tasted the noteworthy culinary Providence, RI food and have been eating in fantastic NYC for 14 years ! ] We also discovered two wonderful breakfast places, one with a beautiful, huge, garden, and and also went to a myriad of amazing places for dinner in Esperenza.

The house - wow, very clean, has everything you need for cooking, for relaxing in the sun and swimming the perfectly-sized pool, and, not to mention my favorite part -- the beautiful view on the perfect, shady and huge 2nd-story patio where I probably found myself taking a million pictures while taking in the amazing weather and calm breeze - this was truly a perfect week and i do wish we had time to make it 2 or 3 weeks. !!

I literally sat out in the early a.m.'s often, seeing the sun and sea wake up, with my laptop [ great wifi - I was told by a friend it could be choppy, for me, it was great ] taking it all in.

Rick was always accessible, and, I want to give my great and earnest thanks to Cheryl and Ron, MORE than gracious and helpful.

Our doggie had a blast and it was very safe for her too, and, I am currently recovering from a back injury - the home was more than accomdating for some with limited mobility like me, and Ireally, cannot wait to return!

Thank you Rick and Heidi and Ron and Cheryl, and beautiful Vieques, for showing us the breathtaking ends of the Earth :D !
