Spruce Pine Information: The Town of Spruce Pine is located in Mitchell Country in Western North Carolina. Located geographically between Mt. Mitchell and Grandfather Mountain, the two highest mountain peaks east of the Rockies, Spruce Pine lists among its assets the unsurpassed beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Spruce Pine, Mitchell County’s largest city of just over 2,000 people sits poised along the North Toe River.

Home of the Mineral and Gem festival (early August), the Hillbilly Heritage Festival (October), the Hammerin’ by the Toe Blacksmith Jamboree (April), Toe River Story telling Festival (July) and spring and fall tours of art studios, Spruce Pine offers many attractions for visitors and residents alike.

The 100 year old North Carolina Apple Orchard at Altapass is an icon of heritage and family fun in the heart of Spruce Pine NC, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Situated along the crest of the Eastern Continental Divide, providing the perfect climate for the perfect apples.

White Water Rafting!: The North Toe River is perfect for beginners and families. Most rapids on the river don't reach above a class II, but you still get to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Lower Nolichucky is another calmer river, offering class I and II rapids. The Lower Nolichucky River would be enjoyable for the entire family.

The Watauga River is accessible to visitors of the Spruce Pine area, and is the ideal river for families and children. Not too far into the trip down the Watauga River you will encounter Anaconda, a class two or class three rapid depending on water levels, and the best rapid of the trip. This river would serve as a great whitewater introduction for children seeking adventure, as would the Nantahala River, which also offers the occasional class II or class III rapid.

Skiing Locations: Spruce Pine NC is located very close to some of the best ski areas in the Southeast. With three ski resorts and Hawksnest, the largest snow tubing park on the east coast, just a short drive away.

Appalachian Ski Mountain is known for its innovative terrain park features and snowmaking capacity. Appalachian Ski Mountain is located in Blowing Rock NC.

Ski Beech is located in the town of Beech Mountain NC, eastern America’s highest town. At 5,506 feet, Ski Beech has 15 slopes, 27,500 snow making lines and 10 lifts.

Sugar Mountain is located less than ten miles from Ski Beech,Sugar Mountain is the largest of the NC Ski Resorts offering 115 skiable acres. Featuring a Magic Carpet tubing area, snowboarding terrain park, 20 slopes, 10 lifts, 10,000 square foot refrigerated outdoor ice skating rink and snowshoeing trails, also boasts North Carolina’s longest run at 1 ½ miles and highest vertical drop at 1,200 feet.

We bought this home because we fell in love with the privacy & location! We knew this would be a home the whole family could come to and enjoy that much needed family time. We can share this home with our friends, but not feel cramped.

We have enjoyed many great times here with friends and family!

We love sitting on the large deck in the evenings and watching the sun go down, or relaxing in The hammock. Or sitting out in the gazebo in the morning with a cup of coffee. We hike and explore the grounds with the kids, which is always an adventure. We go apple picking every visit and have baked apples and apple pies, the best mountain apples we've ever had!

Hiking the gorges and visiting the waterfalls is a highlight of our trip!

So many things to list, we always hate to leave!

SOUTH CAROLINA VISITORS

  • 5 of 5
Three families stayed on three different floors and had all the amenities for a great stay. Very spacious, clean and well stocked for every need. Exactly as pictured however the pictures do not do the view justice. Sunsets spectacular. Morning view of the mountains amazing. Great location to burnsville, blue ridge parkway scenic drive, and spruce pine activities. Highly recommend the rental for large groups. Working with the owner was a pleasure.

GREAT MOUNTAIN RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
Our three night stay in early August was not long enough. The night view from the deck with Spruce Pine twinkling below was delightful. A great place for a large group to get together. Clean throughout, comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchens, satellite TV in the living room. Recommend using an SUV for the long gravel driveway in winter weather.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review, we hope you can return again in the future! We agree completely on a SUV or preferably a 4 wheel drive in the winter months when the road could get icy.
