Overview

Eureka House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 6

Mid-Century Waterfront @ Oyster Beach

Steps from the beach with 180 degree views, our Mid-Century Waterfront home is a cozy getaway in a rustic, natural setting. The home is nestled on the dunes, so you can watch the sea birds and seals play in the waves while you sip your morning coffee.

The home was renovated this year and has all the modern comforts while retaining the simplicity and clean lines of the 1940s and 50s and using reclaimed, natural materials . Highlights include a full kitchen with antique stove, herringbone redwood walls, a subway-tiled shower, period and reproduction furnishings, and an outdoor foot soaking tub on the deck. The home is located on Oyster Beach, a 14-acre historic homestead outside of Eureka, CA. It is located on the edge of the property, surrounded by wetlands, eucalyptus groves, and a 1/4 mile of white sand beach. The location feels remote, but downtown Arcata and Eureka are a 10 minute drive or even a long bike ride away.

The Mid-Century Waterfront sleeps 6. There are two queen-sized beds in the bedrooms and a sleeper sofa in the living room. Perfect for a family vacation!

There are three other vacation rentals on the Oyster Beach property. Mid-Century Waterfront is next door to Oyster Beach Escape and the other is on the opposite end of the property. The homes can be rented together to accommodate larger groups or special events. Attention has been paid to the design of each unit to maximize guest privacy.

The Mid-Century Waterfront is close to the Samoa Dunes Recreation Area and the North Jetty, one of the best surf breaks in the area. There are abundant hiking, fishing, beachcombing, ATV, and horseback riding opportunities in the area.

Guest Access

The code to the gate, lock box for front door key, and alarm will all be emailed to you prior to arrival.

Interaction with Guests

As much as you would like. We can leave you completely to yourselves or meet up with you if you would like

The Neighborhood

Located on 14 private acres with a few other cabins - mostly beautiful trees, dunes, beach, and bay. Oyster Beach's lands are protected against further development, so native plants are abundant.

Getting around

Ocean beaches are within walking distance, as is the Samoa Dunes Recreation area. The bayside beach is right out your front door! Town is a short drive or long bike ride away. Would need a car but bike riding would be a great way to get around as well, especially to the beaches.

Other Things to Note

If your idea of a beach vacation includes manicured golf courses and drink service on the sand, Oyster Beach is not for you. But if you fantasize about a simple getaway in a beautifully lush, wild and natural place, please be our guest.

I rented this home for my family of four. It was perfect for us. The home was clean and well equipped. The location is fantastic with just steps from the beach. The large old growth cypress and eucalyptus trees gave this property a unique and coastal vibe! Kids loved the fire pit and outdoor tub too!

We loved our stay here! The home was well-appointed and the location was so lovely...You definitely feel like you are getting away from it all. We loved seeing the boats and birds going by. The eucalyptus grove and secluded beach were also aspects we enjoyed. We would definitely stay here again!

Reviewer Comments:

This was our first time to the area. Downtown Eureka was kind of cute but nothing special and this place makes you feel like you are a million miles away even though you're actually about a 10 minute drive. You have only a few neighbors but you never actually see them. They positioned the 3 three properties for privacy. You can crab out front, walk on the beach, or just lounge in the hammock. Unfortunately we had terrible weather but the view was so perfect it didn't matter. My only complaint was about the soaking tub outside- The hot water does not last long enough to make it hot. All around it's a great place to stay.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a nice time at the Mid-Century even in the storm! It is a special spot away from it all. Please come to Mid-Cemntury next trip to our area with redwood Coast Vacation Rentals or try one of our 60 + properties we have available in the whole region! (PS The tub is foot friendly only!)

Reviewer Comments:

My husband and I, along with our dogs, had a wonderfully relaxing time in the cabin! We came down for a 4 day weekend, and had plenty of time, and privacy, to allow the dogs lots of swimming time, just feet from the cabin, yet Old Town was just a quick 10 minute ride for window-shopping and dining, if you wanted. We also went hiking down in Humboldt Redwood State park which was an amazing experience. No dogs are allowed on the trails of the state and national parks, so we boarded ours at the Happy Dog in Acata while we were out. They take drop ins, with pick up by 4.

The cabin itself was great. Great decor, obvious desigh style. Just the right size for 2 adults, with room to spare, or for a small family. Like others have mentioned, we found fresh flowers, a spotlessly clean interior, and a "minibar". The French press for our morning coffee was a nice way to slow down as well. The kitchen was well stocked with basic utensils, and cutlery. Bring your own food stocks and condiments. The bathroom was roomy enough for 2, including the shower. The floor and furnishings are dog friendly, but the area around the cabin is all dark sand...they WILL be dirty, so come prepared. We brough a ton of our own "dog towels" and extra dog blankets to lay on the floor, in anticipation of this.

Which leads me to my only suggestion for improvement: Since the owners are generous enough to allow dogs (PLEASE NO ONE RUIN THIS FOR THE REST OF US!), and the tub/plumbing is already run to the front porch, you might want to add a spigot with a small hose w/ sprayer attachment so that dog owners can spray off their animals, and dry them, before coming in the house, to extend the life of the floor and furnishings. We made it work by partially filling the tub and then using a milk jug to scoop water out...but this doesn't get the sand off their bellies and still allows a lot to get inside.

Manager responded on 10/9/2014:
