This delightful cottage is situated in the medieval town of Josselin, best known for its magnificent gothic chateau, which rises high above the banks of the River Oust and the surrounding streets are lined with timber framed houses, shops, restaurants and cafes. Tastefully refurbished during 2007 this romantic cottage on 3 levels has retained all the traditional French features, winding oak staircases, and beamed ceiling with attic views over the river to the Chateau. Accommodation comprises, ground floor entrance hall with washing machine, first floor double bedroom with shower room/ WC and second floor living room/kitchen with double sofa bed. Satellite TV, DVD player. Property with off street parking is accessed from canal towpath through south facing patio garden. BBQ and garden furniture allow you to relax and enjoy this charming retreat. Not suitable for small children and animals.

Josselin as a 'petite cite de caractere' is proud of its heritage from the Chateau de Josselin and the Basilica de Notre Dame de Roncier to the River Oust which flows through the town as part of the Nantes-Brest Canal. At nearby Ploermel, the Lac du Duc offers beach facilities, swimming, watersports, walks and a nine hole golf course. Arthurian legend in Brittany is focused on the nearby Foret de Brocelliande. 25 minutes drive south is the Golfe de Morbihan, a vast bay which has many islands, sandy beaches and rocky inlets. This part of Brittany enjoys an unusually warm and sunny climate. One hours drive to the north offers a rugged coastline, the Cotes d'Armor, Dinan, Dinard and the walled city of St Malo.

Activities: The garden leads directly onto the towpath of the Nantes-Brest Canal offering easy walking, cycling, boating and fishing. Boat and cycle hire are available a 2 min walk away near the base of the chateau. Josselin offers the usual selection of Boulangerie and Boucherie, both being only a 2 min walk from the cottage and two Supermarket (Carrefour and Super U) a 5min car drive. The tourist office is situated next to the main entrance to the Chateau from where you can collect all the local information you may need. The nearby 'English Bookshop' offers a wide selection of new and 'recycled books' with quick access to the local shops, cafes and bars where you can relax and browse over your purchases. Market day is a Saturday morning, taking over the centre of the town with stalls offering every type of local produce.

Excellent Romantic Getaway.

We stayed at River Cottage in early August for our honeymoon. The location is fantastic being right on the river in the beautiful town of Josselin. The cottage was tastefully decorated and the facilities were more than adequate, the property also has parking and a nice garden with barbeque facilities. Josselin itself is well located about 2 hours from the north coast and 45min-1hour from the Atlantic coast. The town has lots of restaurants and a good friendly ambience. We wouldn't hesitate in staying here again and would recommend it highly to others looking for a peaceful getaway.

A fantastic location with the tranquility of the canal right outside the property and the buzz of the market square with its street cafes a 5 minute walk way. The pictures really do match the reality and walking out of the garden and turning to see the view of the chateau right ahead was wonderful. A perfect setting in a unique property that had everything we needed to enjoy a relaxing break. Phil and Maria - June 2009

River Cottage is in a delightful and charming location.Very quiet and peaceful yet just a few minutes stroll from the heart of the town. It has original features that are combined with modern amenities. The cottage is clean and
comfortable with excellent costomer service. There are lots of interesting walks along the tow path with some stunning scenery. Josselin has many good restaurants all within walking distance of the cottage.We enjoyed a very relaxing holiday.

We had a lovely time at River Cottage in August this year . The cottage was wonderful,superbly equipped and secluded ,yet within easy walking distance of the friendly local cafés, bars and shops. Would definitely recommend the property and area as a relaxing holiday destination in Brittanny.

Relax in river cottage

We had a really relaxing time in Josselin. This cottage has many period features yet still has all the mod cons you need. The canal at the bottom of the garden provides many experiences including cycling, boating and walking. The chateau is majestic and can be seen from the top floor of the cottage. Josselin is one of the prettiest places I have had the privilege to go to. This place is wonderful to get away from all the pressures of life and to relax. There are many places to visit near Josselin and info books are in the cottage. Also two big supermarkets nearby make shopping easy. The shop in the village that sells pastries is lovely; I suggest you try the pan raisins and croissants.
The Lac au Duc (man made beach) is 20 minutes away and provides a nice alternative to the sea side.
