Summer 2009 at Villa Janet

Date of Stay: August 2009
My wife and I stayed at Villa Janet during August 2009 with our 3 children (aged 9, 7 and 7). The Greece experience was an attempt to seek some sun after a succession of rainy and windy holidays in Brittany. We were not disappointed! However, even though we enjoyed wall-to-wall sunshine every day, we didn't find the heat too bad because there was often a gentle notherly breeze blowing which was very welcome.
Villa Janet itself is very modern, clean and very comfortable (the air-conditioning was especially appreciated at night-time). We thoroughly recommend it as holiday accommodation. It is relatively quiet and peaceful with superb views over the mountians. We easily managed to spend the whole holiday without hiring a car - we took a taxi from Chania airport at a cost of €55 although on the way back to the airport, we used the local buses. We managed to make use of the local shops by hiring a bicycle for the fortnight. Some good riding into the mountains if you're into cycling.
The beach is a ten-minute walk and offers miles of golden sands and clear warm waters - perfect for the children. Lake Kournas is an easy 25-minute walk (well worth it), even for the 7-year old twins not accustomed to the heat. There are tavernas, shops, bars etc within 20 to 25 minute's walk. Something we discovered on the last night of our stay is that the local beach taverna has an evening buffet for a very reasonable €7 - well worth it watching the magnificent sunset.
The swimming pool is very clean and is checked almost every day by the site manager. We could not fault our stay at Villa Janet and want to return as soon as possible.
PS just a hint - we recommend taking a torch if you are heading down to the local beach taverna at night.
