Great family holiday

We stayed in Villa Petros for two weeks in August 2008, and had a wonderful time. The villa had everything we needed-linen,beach towels, hair dryer, dishwasher, airconditioning, bbq, books, bucket/spade/snorkels(for the children) & lilos for the pool too!
We arrived following Jan & Charlie's perfect directions and found the villa all ready and set up to begin our holiday-we just got into our bathers and jumped into the pool! The weather was about 35 degrees for the whole two weeks & there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
We hired a car for the two weeks, which made it easy to drive to Kavros (5 mins away) to stock up on groceries. There is a supermarket, atm, butchers, fishmongers, bakery, cake patisserie as well as a children's fun park, tavernas & internet cafes(to check your emails) in Kavros.
Lake Kournas is beautiful and again about 5-10 mins drive away. The beach is also nearby and is clean, plenty of space to lie and the water temperature is perfect.
Hania is about 30mins drive from the villa and worth a visit, also Rethymino (15 min drive) & Georgipouli (10 min drive).
Eating out is reasonable, for a family of four we paid about 35 euros for a meal of three courses & a few glasses of wine. You can also stay in and cook in the villa-we used the bbq a few times.
The villa shares the pool with three others, so our children (aged almost 8 & 6.5) enjoyed playing with the other children that were staying in the other villas. It was very safe and everybody was extremely helpful & friendly.
It was a holiday that you can choose to relax by the pool everyday or do the touristy bit and explore. We did a bit of both and would highly reccommend Crete as a place to visit.
