Wonderful apartment in Colmar

The Rouge Cogogne is really a very nice apartment in the midst of Colmar.

First, Colmar is a really pretty city (particularly around Christmas) and the best place to be based when touring Alsace. The city is large enough that there are plenty of museums, shops and restaurants to choose from, but small enough that you are not lost in cars and traffic.

Second, this apartment is well located in the center of Colmar (just by Christmas market stalls and the Petite Venise neighborhood) but on a little quiet side street. At night, it is very calm and peaceful. It was magical to look out of the many windows (on both sides of the apartment) and admire the street with the Christmas decorations and lightings.

Third, the apartment is very charming and tastefully decorated. It is located on the second floor of a classic half-timbered house with lots of wooden beams visible. It is very clean, well furnished and well appointed. Modern comfort within a historical house. The beds were very comfortable. The apartment is also quite spacious (around 90-100m² or 1000 sq feet). In the evening, after a day exploring the region, it was always an immense pleasure to return to the place. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up cooking dinner and eating home on several occasions (despite the many wonderful restaurants around). A memorable place to start the year 2015.

Séjour féérique!

Magnifique séjour à Colmar durant la période de Noël ! Accueil chaleureux de Stéphane. La location est parfaite, propre, bien équipée et possède tout le charme de la région. Situation idéale au centre de Colmar avec pour avantage une place de parking privée toute proche.

Excellentes vacances!!

Magnifique appartement, décoré avec beaucoup de goût et d'une propreté irréprochable. Situé en plein centre ville de Colmar dans une rue piétonne très calme et au sein des marchés de Noël. Nous avons passé d'excellentes vacances en famille.

Un grand merci au propriétaire pour son accueil, sa gentillesse et sa disponibilité.

Perfectly situated and nice appartment

We loved the appartment, what we needed was in place. The situation is perfect in the heart of the old town centre.

We appreciated that in the kitchen basics like salt, pepper, oil etc are present.

One point for possible improvement; the lightning in the rooms is weak, sometimes not enough to be able to read a book.

Fantastique!

The apartment is great; equipped with everything that you would need, and charmingly decorated. We stayed for an entire month, and felt like we were locals by the time we had to leave. We debated long and hard about whether to stay here or in Strasbourg, and we KNOW we made the right choice. Colmar is delightful, and a great base for exploring Alsace. The Wi-fi connection was amazing; even better than the one we have at home, and having two separate sleeping areas was not only ideal for two couples, but very hard to find in this price range. For the money this is the best in Colmar. Other apartments were so much more expensive, and not necessarily more room! It is a perfect location for seeing the old town. The only disadvantage is its nearness to the Chez Moi, which is a cafe and disco bar that stays open really late and has loud patrons that spend time outside the front door, presumably smoking and drinking. It is closed on Sunday and Monday nights, which is good for a break. None of this is the fault of the gracious host, Stephane, and I do doubt that it would be too much quieter at the other apartments in the old town due to street noise and places that stay open late in this area. This is only a problem when you sleep with the windows open, and not everyone does. It does make for VERY interesting people watching out of the windows facing the canal side of the house, which we did often! You also have a great view during the day of the outdoor seating for the three cafes across the street, and can watch people come and go to the Boulangerie, which we visited daily! During the first part of our visit, the square by the Koifhaus, which was partly visible from our windows, hosted dancers in folk costume doing traditional Alsacian dances in which audience members were invited to participate. Fun! And near the fountain outside the building there were live musicians nearly every day. This apartment is also not too far a walk from the train station; and we made this walk often to take the train and bus to wine villages, as we did not rent a car. The Dominican Church is a MUST see, with the Issenheim Altarpiece and the Madonna of the Roses, and Petite Venise, although tiny, is charming. The Brasserie across the street has reliably good food, as do the Winstubs across from the fountain. Good coffee, cheese, wine, and demi-sel butter with chunks of sea salt in it!! Live like the Francais!! Thank you Stephane for being such a gracious host!

Perfect Place to Stay in Colmar

Le Rouge Cigogne was the perfect place to stay in Colmar. Not only its location is very central, but also because it is spacious and has all the conveniences you will need. Stéphane gave us a very warm welcome, and invaluable assistance with regards to restaurants and things to do with our children.

I would definitively recommend Le Rouge Cigogne for anyone looking for a nice place to stay in Colmar.
