Dot's Place - Spacious Mountaintop Home - Cornerstone Vacation Rentals

My family and I stayed at Dot's Place for several days. Our family included several young children 3 and under.

Pros:
It was very nice to have access to the resort (which was about 5 mintues away down the mountain). We enjoyed swimming, going to the beach area, and playing miniature golf at the resort. The house was very spacious and there was plently of room to spread out. The kitchen is well stocked with lots of pots and pans and silverware.

Cons:
The house had many breakable personal items used for decoration and the staircase was a bit dangerous for young children. Obviously this will only apply if you have little kids. However, we had to spend the entire vacation watching the kids like a hawk due to the highly breakable stuff everywhere. It wouldn't have been as big of a deal if there had been less stuff, but there was quite a bit of breakable stuff around. For instance, there was a old antique typewriter on the desk (at the edge). Low glass tables with glass vases on them. On the top floor the landing to get into the bedrooms was not very child friendly. The slats on the railing on the top floor were big enough for a small child to have fit through (which would have caused them to fall down to the main floor into the living room or kitchen). Also the patio furniture was quite old (think plastic chairs of the type sold at Wal-Mart). When we arrived we noticed a broken patio chair. As we were grilling, my husband was sitting in one of the patio chairs and it broke. We were glad it was not my grandmother sitting in that chair. We didn't think much of it but after leaving were e-mailed by the property owner charging us 65 for 2 broken chairs. After several e-mails he did not charge us, however, it is ridiculous he was trying to charge us so much for such old furniture when one was already broken when we arrived and the other broke after regular sitting. They were very old and I can't imagine they would have cost so much new.

I would recommend for a family without kids or with kids who you can trust with highly breakable items. After trying to charge 65 dollars for a plastic chair I shudder to think what the cost would have been had the kids actually broken one of the glass or antique type items.
