My family and business reside in Austin, TX... but our hearts are always in Kona, HI. We have loved the island and the waters that surround it for decades. When we visit our 'piece of paradise' we love to snorkel, paddle board, hike, cliff jump, and catch up with our good friends living on the rock.
Laura Weaver purchased this house in 2011
Kona Mountain Home and Cottage is very special... central to Kailua-Kona, easy access to all North and South Beaches, yet so remote the birds are louder than any vehicle traffic. KMH is nestled in the eco-minded development of Kaloko and the forest reserves on the slopes of Hualalai.
More than your run of the mill vacation rental... explore the island like a local. Kayaks and 6 person Hot Tub, Paddle and Surf Boards, Beach chairs and Shade canopies, Coolers and Snorkel gear... all for your use and enjoyment. Play, Explore, Relax @ Kona Mountain Home.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at KMH. I want to thank you for your special consideration given us post stay.I would certainly recommend your property to anyone considering a vacation to the Island of Hawaii.
My girlfriend and I recently enjoyed a wonderful Hawaiian getaway at the Kona Mountain Home. The space was very inviting and comfortable; it truly felt like home away from home. The location is a 15 minute drive away from Kailua-Kona, which is the perfect distance to escape and enjoy the serenity the space offers.
Between the ample equipment for water sports, lanai, hot tub, and grill, we felt like we had choices at our fingertips each morning as we planned out our day. The amenities are of a very high quality, and the space is very neat and clean.
I would highly recommend a stay at the Kona Mountain Home for your next visit to the islands. Especially if you are looking for a private getaway within striking distance of popular destinations on the Big Island.
This place is amazing. When we arrived we were blown away by just how big the property is. Standing on the lanai and taking in the view was our favorite part of the stay. The greatest thing about this place is that it's up on the mountain and feels very secluded, yet at any time you are only 15 minutes away from the city amenities. Normally we pay for activities to do while on the island. This trip we spent $0 on activities. We used their stand-up paddle board, longboard, kayak, snorkels, hot tub, bath tub, we hiked local trails, and the workout room. They have internet and a flat screen. Everyday we did not plan anything. We spent the morning on the lanai relaxing and would decide what to do that day. Stress-free and just what we were hoping for. Thanks for taking care of us!
We stayed at Kona Mountain Home for a week, in the main house & the cottage. This home is exactly as the photos show, but even more beautiful in person! All of the small details, décor, extremely comfortable bedding, mattresses made it hard for us to leave! KMH is an absolute dream home and we hope to return again some day! We got married in the backyard and couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting to do a small wedding. We used the lava stone staircase between the main house & Ohana as our "aisle" and were married on the bottom step, as our friends and family looked on from the grass area. There was no noise from cars or planes or neighbors. The lanai was more than spacious for our guests during the reception.
Laura was extremely helpful in the months before our visit. She answered numerous questions for me, both about the house and Kona in general. I really appreciated her assistance and the way she responded very quickly each time. I can tell she loves this area and home and is pleased to share it with others:)
Gudrun, the property manager was a real gem too! She was very helpful as well and very friendly! She came by one day and we actually chatted for quite some time. I could see us all being friends if we lived there.
This house has everything you could need and more! Decorative dishes & containers, food in the pantry, fireplace, baby highchair & cribs, books to read, toiletries you may have forgotten, ample towels & linens, and beach gear galore! Make sure to enjoy that hot tub! Nothing like sitting in it after a long day exploring, and gazing up at the stars! The area around the house is nice for a short walk. And Mountain Thunder Coffee is like 2 minutes away. Cool breezes, quiet nights, beautiful home...the only down side to KMH was having to leave.
*Beautiful lanai overlooking the jungle and ocean
*Ultra clean and organized
*Surfboard, paddleboard, 5 boogie boards, 4 coolers, 10 pairs of water shoes, all the snorkel stuff needed for 5+, nets, sand toys, and straps to transport the boards on our rented SUV rack...the list goes on. All this the guests can use!! This probably saved us $400+ in rentals for family
*Kitchen had high quality cookware
*Gas fireplace that can be used inside and out
*Furniture that can seat many inside and out (more than our 6)
*Not a touristy part of Kona, much more secluded
*Hut tub that was ultra clean
*Beautiful sunsets on the Lanai
*Internet worked perfectly
*Updated & tasteful décor (not rental quality, much nicer)
*Oven didn't work so well for us
*10-15 minute drive up the mountain to the home
*There is a cottage right next to the main home that also gets rented. We didn't need it for our family, but it was rented by another family. The layout of the two homes was positive so the living spaces didn't interact, but if the cottage has people in it that are loud, you would certainly know they were there.
Summary: Incredible experience - Because this is a 2nd home for the owners, and not just a rental property, so many of the small details we already thought of and included. I would highly recommend my friends and family.
2nd year to staying at this great place. Upgraded couches and clean place to stay. AWESOME place. See you next year.
Kona Mountain home is an excellent property and is extremely warm and welcoming. Lauren has made the home very comfortable, our families (party of 4 adults, 4 kids) had a superb time. The house decor was great, room sizes comfortable. We enjoyed conversations by fireplace, cooking together in the kitchen & quiet time in hot tub. The kids especially enjoyed the toys, board games & exploring the backyard. The lanai offered great views & lots of seating. We would highly recommend this property, and hope to return here for another visit in the future.
