RIFUGIO DI MONTAGNA IS ITALIAN FOR 'MOUNTAIN REFUGE' ~ Our refuge in the Dodge Ridge/Pinecrest area at 5,300 ft elevation is the perfect place for you and your family and friends to spend together in a unique combination of brand new construction infused with traditional memorabilia.

THE PINECREST TRADITION BEGAN WITH GRANDPA AND GRANDMA ~ This 2,200 square foot mountain home was lovingly constructed in 2007 as a place to recharge and relax, and is located on a quiet street in Cold Springs. Having grown up with grandparents who owned a cabin in the area for many years, this home was built after thoughtful planning and much creativity to use and enjoy some of the furnishings that were located in the old cabin. Rifugio di Montagna was actually designed 'around' the grand old dining room table which can seat up to 12 and is the focal point of the home.

A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF RIFUGIO ~ The slate floors and granite countertops of the interior are combined with the natural colors of the outdoors making for a warm and cozy refuge for your mind and spirit. The living areas were specifically made to be the largest rooms in the cabin and to flow together. The spacious kitchen has an island and a breakfast bar which opens to the dining room, which in turn is connected to the 24' high ceilinged Great Room. The Master Suite is also located on this floor and has it's own entry AND A KING SIZE BED. You will feel as though you are showering outside under a waterfall in the oversized, full slate shower in the Master Bathroom.

The loft upstairs with the double futon overlooks the Great Room and is flanked by two bedrooms, BOTH OF WHICH HAVE KING-SIZE MATTRESSES. (No more arguing over who has to take the 'little' bed!!!) There is also a full bathroom on this floor with a tub/shower combo. All of the beds are fitted with 500 and 400 thread.

The 560 square foot front deck wraps around three sides of the house, bringing the outdoors right to your feet. And who wants to eat indoors when the perfect Summer weather calls you outside to dine on our custom-made, bar height picnic table? As an alternative, sit out on the back deck which offers a view of the landscaped area and the undeveloped forest beyond. In the Winter you will be glad you've chosen to rent a newly-constructed, well-insulated cabin with double-paned windows plus two sources of warmth - the fireplace and central heat.

THE PINECREST/DODGE RIDGE AREA CAN BE YOUR TRADITION, TOO! ~ Or, maybe it already is and you want to make wonderful new memories at Rifugio! There are many fabulous things to do in the area - great family skiing/snowboarding at Dodge Ridge and sledding at High Sierra Snowplay in the Winter, and in the Summer, the great fishing, hiking, and boating choices are endless.

We've prepared a book at the cabin - just for you - which lists all of the wonderful things to do/places to see, with Rifugio as your home base. Come ~ relax, refresh and recharge ~ experience Rifugio di Montagna for yourself!

  • Winter rates ~ Dec 16, 2012 thru April 15, 2013 ....... $250/night $1500/week.

    Off-season ~ Apr 16 thru May 24th & Sept. 3 thru Dec. 15 $225/nite $1300/week.
    Three Night Minimum Stay Holiday Weekends & during months of June, July & August.

GREAT TIME

Thanks for letting us use your lovely home. We really enjoyed the warm inviting feel of the home. My daughter LOVED the big bear you have there. The kitchen is nice and it has plenty of room to enjoy meal preparations with a few people.
While we were there we had snow on the porch so it was very easy to go out and play. I could watch her playing from the comfort of the hearth with the warmth of the fire keeping me cozy.

The reviews of this place were stellar. We were excited.

Little did we know, ~ the degree ~ to which we would be blown away by this Mountain Hide-a-way.

Words simply cannot explain the beauty of this place. Previous reviews are comprehensive and spot-on, so I won't rehash. ~ Just know, it's all true!

There is a "feeling" about this place. The owners put in so much love, creativity, talent, consideration, and their life's blood into creating this "refuge."

We left feeling rested, inspired, ... and committed to returning as often as is possible.

If you are looking for a tranquil amazing mountain get-a-way this is truly is your place !
As I write this I am just hopeful that there will be ANY dates available for us next fall as this home is really a treasure.
We live in Southern California but my husband grew up in Northern California so we always enjoy a trip up to "Nor Cal" for a getaway every Sept-Oct when the summer crowds are gone.
Every detail is so well thought out in this fabulous mountain retreat !
From the wonderful welcome basket (so thoughtful) to the complete instructions available to operate and use everything in the home. It was all so well organized we really have never seen anything like it and we always use VRBO properties.
Each of the bedrooms were well appointed,beautifully decorated, very comfortable and a wonderful sleep is certain in each of these bedrooms.
( Great idea to have king beds in each of the rooms so many VRBO miss that we think)
The kitchen has everything you would need to cook a gourmet meal. Two wonderful decks to sit out on and relax with the majestic pines to gaze at and take in the serenity of the property.
When we read that the owner built this home it was not a surprise it was a masterpiece !

Wonderful family gathering spot!

My son chose to get married at Pinecrest Lake and we rented Refugio as 'Wedding Central' along with 2 other cabins nearby. Pam was easy to work with and provided all the details we needed to plan our event. The house is beautiful and very well stocked. We had lots of room to cook and enjoy meals for the crowd, as well as plenty of silverware, platters etc.

Clean, upscale, FUN house to stay in and great landlords!

What a Fantastic Place

We arrived to a beautifully, well-maintained mountain house. Everything in the listing description was even more outstanding than what was detailed. I had been in contact with Pam over several months and thoroughly enjoyed her assistance and willingness to make our visit as enjoyable as possible. We had a wonderful time taking the grandchildren to Pinecrest Lake, the "boys" played golf in Sonora and the ladies relaxed, enjoyed wine and cheese and the surroundings of this lovely retreat. We enjoyed it so much that we are making plans for another visit.

This is a 5 Start home with absolutely every amenity you could imagine.

Thank you Pam and Paul for sharing your "little piece of heaven."
