Moon ShineMountain Farm Retreat

Moonshine Mountain Farm is a must see—must visit !! A diamond located in a state known for its coal mines, Moonshine offers a tranquil and private getaway suitable for even the most finicky of travelers. On a scale 1 – 5, my husband and I give it a 10. It is the perfect get-a-way for both couples and families with children, providing a soothing environment to reconnect with each other, and with nature, as well as an educational opportunity to learn and to teach your children about farming and living off the land.

My throurough Review follows:
My husband and I stayed at Moonshine Mountain during a week in July. When we arrived as two weary travelers we were greeted warmly by Benny and Barbara who took us on a tour of the home. My husband and I were awestruck by this beautiful and spacious home. Hidden back long and windy roads, we never expected so much for so little a fee. The photos do not do the home justice. It is a sprawling rancher with enormously sized rooms. My first impression was of how sparkling bright and clean the home is—thanks to Barbara. The home was described as “luxury accommodations” in the ad and it definitely meets or goes beyond this description. It is very tastefully decorated and furnished, and even has a piano and a stereo along with an assortment of music choices geared towards the 50+ generation. There is comfortable seating and beds throughout the home and crisp clean linens are provided. Many large windows that provide lighting and a feeling of enjoying the outdoors even while inside.

The home is equipped with everything needed to make one feel at home and comfortable—inside and outside. Most of the extras we brought along with us were not needed as we found them already in the home. The kitchen is abundantly stocked with pots, pans, dishes, gadgets and just about any tool or appliance one would need to create a meal or a feast. We also found many staple items needed like sugar, coffee and cooking oil and also a cabinet full of spices for cooking. We had not packed food for meals and were too tired to go shopping that first day so we much appreciated Barbara sharing some of her fresh eggs with us so we could make an omelet for dinner.

There are plenty of cabinets as well as a pantry in hall right off the kitchen. If you tend to the bird feeders you will be delighted by the assortment of birds—including hummingbirds and all kinds of critters that frequent the feeders which are visible

The pictures do not do this house justice!! It is BEAUTIFUL, big and very well maintained. We were in WV for a family reunion and could not have rented a better place. The house is equiped with anything you could ever need. Benny and Barbara are wonderful. Do not hesitate to rent this property and when you do make, sure the bird feeder is full......... the birds are so peaceful to watch and the chipmunks are adorable. Also go visit Dairy Queen in Hinton, lots of food choices and the best view, while enjoying a blizzard, hands down.

We stayed at the Moonshine Farm 6 weeks during September and October, 2010. We enjoyed our time there and whether we were just relaxing in the lovely home and surroundings or visiting nearby state parks and quiet little towns and communities, we never ran out of things to do. The owners are such nice people and the little garden they had planted for the use of visitors was a wonderful surprise. We intend to go back soon.
