Who we are & languages spoken:
Who are we?
Guido van Oppen (1946), Colonel (RNLA) Ret.
For the past 38 years I have held a variety of appointments in and out of the Netherlands, the last two being diplomatic posts in the Dutch embassies in Washington DC and Moscow. We chose Cantabria to settle down after retirement with my wife Rosana and our 3 sons. Here we have found here the best quality of life. Cantabria was indeed love at first sight!
Rosana Ardanaz (1959)
Born and raised in Madrid, I studied History and Geography at the Complutense University of Madrid and English language at Cambridge.
The diplomatic nature of Guido’s jobs abroad enabled me to gain wide experience in offering hospitality to people of many nationalities.
By the way, I also fell immediately in love with Cantabria!
Because we speak the language and know the area well we think we can really help you to enjoy a wonderful holiday!
Apart from English we can also help you in German, French, Dutch & Spanish.
We are willing to help you!:
Help you with what? To get the best out of your holidays
How, e.g.?
We inform and advise you about the possibilities that this region offers. Or, we assist you with arranging things that you need.
We'll make sure that you will find a nice Spanish hot meal ready the day of your arrival and the breakfast for nexr morning, at no extra costs to you! So after traveling to your holiday house you don't need to go out immediately to shop for food.
Of course we will explain to you the ins and outs of Los Milanos the day you arrive. If you come by car, we will provide you timely with a clear route description to Los Milanos. We advise you about local restaurants and make reservations for you. We can guide you to special points of interest in the region that might otherwise escape your attention. Or simply, we help you where the Spanish language is a problem.
If you come, we wish you already a very nice stay in Cantabria. Los Milanos will be already a good start to that end.
Cantabria = spending time outdoors:
Just to mention some possibilities to be outdoors
Golf: there is an 18 hole golf course located in a beautiful spot, designed by local hero Severiano Ballesteros, just 1 km away from Los Milanos. Buggies/trolleys, clubs, etc are available for rent.
By the way, Seve Ballestero’s beautiful home course is only 40 minutes drive from Los Milanos.
Tennis: 2 outdoor courts, with flood lights, less than 5 minutes away from the house.
Horse riding: there are several stables close by to give you the chance to get to know the area from another point of view.
Biking: through picturesque countryside roads or mountains, there are endless rides to do.
Walking and hiking: as much and as hard as you want. Nature is so beautiful here that you can do just that.
Swimming, surfing, sailing: close to your door, from the nearby peaceful, white sand beaches.
Mountain climbing, wild water canoeing, fishing. In the Parque Nacional de los Picos de Europa all this is possible.
Skiing: at 1,1/2 hours.
Other Activities:
Wild water canoeing; visits to (pre historic) caves;
