Essex is located toward the eastern edge of the Lake Champlain Valley about ten miles from Burlington, the venue for a variety of cultural events. One can find theatrical and musical presentations from the Lyric Theater to the annual summer Jazz Festival, Reggae, popular and folk. Restaurants of all varieties abound. Three area colleges and one university offer many more opportunities. The valley itself offers scenic drives, museums, antique shops, restaurants, wineries, breweries, farm stands and many other attractions. The lake offers over 110 miles of scenic beauty, fishing and boating. To the east are the ski areas of Jay, Bolton, Sugarbush and Stowe, to name a few. A day on the slopes in Stowe, dinner in Burlington and home to Alder Brook Cottage is easily done. Within two miles of the cottage you will find groceries, several restaurants, a spa, golf, mini golf, a ten screen theater and an outdoor adventure course among other things. Come and see us, you won't be bored!

Beautifully appointed home

This is a lovely home and yard which the owners have beautifully decorated. The beds were very comfortable, kitchen quite functional and the owners supplied their guests with everything from shampoo to paper towels. The house sits on a main street so access is easy and there are food stores within 5-8 minutes away. There is a park within walking distance, as well as a casual restaurant and convenient store/ gas station. If your looking to drive to downtown Burlington it is about a 25 minute drive away . Highly recommend this home away from home!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Alder Brook Cottage couldn't have been more lovely - what a gem in a perfect location, close to all that Burlington has to offer yet steps to beautiful country roads for cycling (which we enjoyed yesterday)!
Thanks for everything-we will most definitely be back - and next time hopefully with friends!

What a nice change from our hectic life in New Jersey. After the wedding we had a chance to sit on the deck for a nice bar-b-q. It was a lovely way to end a wonderful day. On Sunday Mary went to the Essex for a day at the spa and I went biking with my brother. There are so many things to see and do around Burlington that we've decided to come back for a whole week next year. We will be sure to stay here.
