This home was not well maintained or prepared for our rental, and was in an extremely disappointing condition, which detracted significantly from our weekend stay in a wonderful mountain location. The home appeared to have been unoccupied for an extended period of time prior to our arrival, and there were layers of dust on upper surfaces and dirty kitchen drawers [including mouse droppings that had not been removed from the kitchen drawers and dish cabinets], and mildew on the refrigerator door. We washed all the dishes, silverware and utensils ourselves in the dishwasher before using them - they clearly had not been looked at for some time. The sheets, linens, towels and beds were old and worn and not comfortable to sleep in. Some of the beds had plastic mattress covers which we removed before sleeping in the beds. The porch furniture had a layer of dust, and we needed to wash the furniture ourselves before using the furniture. The paint on the porch ceiling was peeling badly and falling on the floor during our stay. Many light bulbs were missing or burned out, and many lamp shades were broken.
We contacted the owner's representative about our concerns with the condition of the home when we arrived, and nothing was done to address our concerns. We also contacted the owner during and after our stay, and he also refused to take any action to address our concerns.
The hot tub water was cloudy and foamy when we turned it on, so we could not use the hot tub.
The home has potential and could have been a warm and inviting family home at one time, but it has not been well maintained or updated.
In view of the unsatisfactory condition of the home, and the unwillingness of the owner and his on site representative to recognize or address our concerns, we cannot recommend this home.
Owner's Response: This is our first negative comment in 6 years of renting our home to guests. We are taking it very seriously and will be taking a trip there this upcoming week. At this point all we know is that the property manager, whom we have used for 3 years reports having had the house cleaned prior to these guests arriving. He reports having received a request for lightbulbs to which he responded immediately. When he was at the house he was made aware of a hot tub problem that he was unable to fix. A service call was placed for this problem, and the technicians were not able to arrive for several days. The guests even left him a small gift and thank you note upon their departure for his prompt service. The guest contacted us after their stay stating what they have listed in their review and requested a complete refund of all rents paid. After several discussions with our property manager we promptly refunded a portion of the rent paid for their inconvenience with the hot tub malfunction. All other claims in the opinion of our manager appear to be inaccurate, but during our upcoming trip to Wintergreen we will be taking every possible measure to assure all future guests a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.
