Designed for beachfront living, the Generation Gap House rises from the beach to the treetops. The house is built around a lush tropical garden. The main living area contains a whale rib bar, a large heart shaped dining table that seats 8, and another table overlooking the sea. A curved outdoor seating area overlooks the central garden. There are sun decks outside the main living room and adjoining each bedroom.

The many windows and arches of the main living area frame a panoramic view of Petit Nevis, Isle a Quatre, Pigeon Island, Mustique, and the Southern Grenadines.

Massive tropical vines cascade over the stone walls that surround the tropical garden where young fruit trees and palms shoot up toward the sky. With three bedrooms on three different levels and more than 4,000 feet of living space, Generation Gap is one of the larger houses at Moonhole. Relax on the decks or the chaises on the private Moonhole beach below.

Tom Johnston and his crew broke ground on this house decades ago, envisioning a relatively small house. With encouragement and backing from a friendly homeowner, Tom expanded his vision for the house. It soon evolved into a towering structure, rising more than 80 feet from the beachfront bedroom to the uppermost level. Moonhole Company has recently renovated the house, adding solar power, hammocks,new furnishings, and some of Tom's unique whalebone sculptures.

The house sleeps 6 comfortably and a day bed in the Queen bedroom's anteroom can accommodate a child.

About Robert Rooth

Moonhole Company Limited owns the Generation Gap House. We are dedicated to preserving the quiet beauty of the Moonhole peninsula at the western tip of Bequia. Moonhole is a wildlife and bird sanctuary.

With a friendly staff of 18 people from Paget Farm, Moonhole's Managing Director Winifred Kydd has hosted guests from around the world.

Enjoy peace and quiet, living with nature. Moonhole is one of the last areas on Bequia where there are no roads, only stone paths winding from the beach up to the houses.

We require a $750 deposit, which is credited to the rent. The deposit becomes non-refundable 30 days prior to arrival. The balance of the rent is due on arrival. The rent includes the services of the housekeeper and cook who will take care of you during your stay. We accept Visa and Mastercard, but not Amex. We also accept payment via PayPal. The cost of food and beverages is extra.
The cost of food and beverages averages around $20 per person per day if you take all your meals at Moonhole. We will present you with a bill for food and beverages before you depart.
We encourage generous gratuities to the staff, who work hard to make our guests happy!

  • The new Seaside Bedroom sits right above the sea and resounds with the sound of the surf. Large windows face the sea and there are wooden dutch doors at either end of the bedroom. Outside the bedroom is a small outdoor deck fanned by the sea breeze. This bedroom has a king bed and sitting area. Stone steps lead down to the beach below. With its own private entrance, the Treetop Bedroom sits high up above the central garden. A huge gum tree grows inside the bedroom and branches out to a private sun deck where a hammock swings in the breeze. The king bed is surrounded by louvered windows that admit the trade winds while affording privacy. There is a large writing desk in the bedroom. The Queen Bedroom includes an anteroom with a daybed that can serve as a bed for a child. Bougainvilleas sway outside the bank of windows that run the length of the bedroom. The queen bed and cushioned seating area face the ocean.
