One of the most incredibly beautiful places on the earth is Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. It's a truly tranquil and wonderfully peaceful place. It was my first time to Guatemala and I couldn't have been more pleased and blown away with everything Lake Atitlan has to offer. I stayed for 4 nights and 5 days in the lovely Villa km5 and I would never come here and stay anywhere else - having this secluded private villa was the perfect relaxing escape I needed. The property is incredible - the villa is very large with 2 stories of spacious living areas, dining and kitchen area, 2 bedrooms and 3 great balconies perched on the ledge of the lake with unimaginable views. The property offered great amenities - we spent most evenings relaxing in the jacuzzi and the wood burning sauna tucked amongst the lush greenery of the lake. Since there was a full kitchen, we took advantage and cooked dinners at home and relaxed in the lounge area overlooking the lake. It felt as though we had our own private resort and we could really immerse ourselves within the natural beauty of the land. The villa was also incredibly clean and had the perfect amount of furniture and decoration - it felt very comfortable and cozy, especially with the original Mayan textiles and ceramic pottery pieces used to decorate the house. It left me feeling intrigued to venture out and explore the different villages. I enjoyed meeting the indigenous people and seeing all the beautiful and unique hand-made pieces they had to offer. The Villa km5 is an ideal location - it sits between Santa Catarina and Panajachel - a very quick tuk tuk ride to either town so very easy to explore the villages, do activities, and go out dinners, etc. While I could easily lay around and take in the serene lake and greenery for days on end, I definitely wanted to explore the many activities around Lake Atitlan. An absolute MUST if you are an adventurous person is the zip-lining through the canopies - it's an adrenalin rush of excitement with amazing panoramic views of the lake and volcanoes in the back drop. The best zip-lining I've ever done! Lake Atitlan is really an experience like no other, there is breathtaking scenery everywhere you look. Villa km5 was the perfect retreat to stay and I'm already planning my next trip back!
