Donna's place is beautiful. It's spacious, comfortable, and very well-equipped, and Donna was extremely helpful and communicative. This was the perfect retreat for a weekend, curled up with novels by the fireplace or borrowing the snowshoes to explore the woods. We were even able to cook a full roast chicken dinner with the excellent kitchen setup! The surrounding towns were also great to explore - we loved the nordic centre and town of Grafton in particular. The information sheets, recommendations, maps and brochures in the cottage were a huge help in discovering the surrounding area. All in all an excellent experience - We were already trying to plan our next visit when we left! I highly recommend their property and thank Donna for facilitating our much needed break!
This is truly Our Home Away from Home! Our family stayed at Donna's place in May while attending a family funeral in southern Vermont. The lovely ease of the place, the spacious comfort and opportunity to stay there with extended family helped heal the reason for the visit, so much so that when we had a week's vacation in September, we headed back to Rockingham- to Donna's house! I've been visiting Vermont for twenty years, staying at my in-laws homes or bed and breakfasts or hotels. Nothing has made me fall in love with Vermont like staying here. The post and beam home, solid and warm, the heating stove in the living room, the quiet solitude. The dining room table is perfect for family games, but I also sat and drew with soft pastels. My daughter danced in the grass and made beautiful videos with the green hills as her backdrop. (The view from the front windows is hilly!) My son walked in the woods behind the home, took photos of dozens of types of mushrooms and hunted for salamanders. My husband panned for gold in the river (long story.) The beds are comfy, the linens soft. Everything you need in the kitchen is where you think should be. It's a fun kitchen to cook in. (It even has lovely pottery to serve in and a big wooden salad bowl! Perfect!) The solid wooden front door feels protective and we always kid around about bears not getting through that thing! The washer and dryer are sure handy! We love being able to bring our little Shih Tzu with us, and he was so happy there rather than at a kennel! At night, in the right season, the sweetest tree frogs perch at the dining room windows waiting for their dinner to be attracted to the lights inside. We love this place. We want this place. We can't wait to get back to this place. Donna is available (by phone) and attentive to all needs! Cell service at the house is better than I expected and better than many areas I visit in Vermont. Bellows Falls, Grafton and Saxton's River, wonderful little towns. This is a great choice for getting away!!
This was the first time my husband and I stayed at Donna's farm house cottage and we absolutely loved it there. The house was open and bright with views of the pasture and local hills. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed for an easy visit. Donna even left a nice welcome note and a large bowl of wonderfully fresh plum tomatoes for us and they were delicious. When we arrived late on Friday night we found the house very easily with our GPS and everything was in order. It rained all day on Saturday but it didn't matter, as we visited the Vermont Country Store just up the road and the local antiques markets, and then off to our Godson's wedding that evening. The rain added to the charm of the area which is very country like and peaceful. Sunday was sunny and cool and sitting on the porch for morning coffee was wonderful. The gas stove heater was so easy to use (we're used to wood stoves), just a flick of the thermostat and the house warmed up. If you enjoy looking at craftmanship of house building...you will really enjoy looking at all of the wood beams in the home and how the builders put it all together. Overall, the house and owners were great to work with and we absolutely enjoyed our short stay. Would love to go back in the Springtime. Thank you Donna
This is my second time renting Donna's cottage, and I am already excited for another visit. The cottage is comfortable and tidy, has a well-stocked kitchen and plenty of blankets, sheets, and towels. The location is so lovely---beautiful, quiet, and private. Having two full bathrooms is a treat for many folks (me!). I love sitting on the porch and reading, having a drink, and just being there. Can't wait to stay there again!
This is the third time that my family has stayed at this lovely cabin, and once again, we were not disappointed! Everything was in order, the weather was particularly wonderful during our stay, and we enjoyed amazing views of a full moon each night, as we ate in front of the massive windows in the dining area or sipped an evening cocktail on the porch.
This time, we also discovered Grafton Village... .a place we had not yet explored. A highlight was walking over the covered bridge, along the forest trail, and then "playing" in the river. Next time, we'll have a picnic lunch with us, as we'll be back to Donna and Pete's cabin for sure :)
The perfect layout. Peaceful, spacious, warm. Well-stocked, easy kitchen. A dining area that gets morning sun with a great view. Comfortable living room. Spacious upstairs with comfortable beds. The grounds are lovely. This is one of those reviews I consider not writing because I want to save it for myself!
