___________________________

While he was the organist and music director of Savannah’s Unitarian Church, which faces onto Troup Square, the Reverend John Pierpont Jr. wrote the beloved Christmas song Jingle Bells, copyrighted in 1857. In 1985, the City of Savannah placed a plaque in Troup Square to commemorate the song and its Savannah roots.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Built in 1900, our cottage is in a quiet residential neighborhood 50 yards from Troup Square. The one bedroom, one bath property is single storey. Fully renovated in 2011, it has off-street parking for one small car and ample free street parking—no meters to feed with quarters or $7.00 daily parking permits required. Within easy walking distance of restaurants (there is one within 100 yards), the Savannah riverfront, and all of the fun and fascination of pre-Civil War historic architecture, beautiful landscaping, antique shops, etc.

About Owner

We are a nearing-retirement age couple from the New York City area with backgrounds in fine arts and restoration, an appreciation for eccentricity, and a limited amount of patience for shoveling snow - so Savannah is perfect for us.

Owner purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Owner chose Savannah

When our son was clever enough to pass up the blustery New York area where he was born and enrolled in the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in animation in 2004 we began thinking about escaping ourselves - at least for visits. He graduated in 2008 and has moved on to other challenges but we continue to be fascinated by Savannah, one of the most magical cities in the US.

What makes this cottage unique

For short and longer term visits we have stayed in quite a few Savannah hotels and a dozen or so furnished vacation rentals, so we have a good idea of what we want to find to make us comfortable, which has guided us in renovating and furnishing this cottage.

Nice stay in Savannah

  • 5 of 5

Cottage is everything you would expect from the write-up. In a quiet area with adequate parking on Harris St. The cottage is charming with modern amenities. If you are a walker you can pretty much get to everything and, of course, the squares and parks are lovely. We would stay here again.

Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is what you would expect from the listing. The neighborhood is quiet and parking on Harris St. was no problem. You would need to have a very small car to park in the space on Liberty Lane (and even then you could not open the doors) but that's not really a problem. The cottage has the charm of an older place but all the conveniences of a recent remodel. Everything was clean and well organized. While we didn't have any problems or issues, the manager made it known she was available if we needed her. Savannah is so walkable that you are never really far from anything and if you need to drive somewhere the street grid makes getting around easy. We would stay here again and would recommend the Cottage highly.

Ours was an excellent experience in all ways. The cottage is immaculately clean, has lots of character, and is located within walking distance of all the great sites and restaurants. We will definitely return in the very near future!

Our stay at Jingle Bells Cottage - February 2015.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage layout, description and amenities were very well detailed and accurate with respect to restaurants, grocery shopping and site seeing. Parking on East Harris was not a problem at all during our stay. The cottage is conveniently situated in Savannah for either walking or driving. The cottage is very well equipped with modern appliances which suited all of our needs, the Property Manager called soon after arrival to see if all was to our satisfaction, when we called back with a minor problem, it was resolved immediately.

We enjoyed our stay at Jingle Bells Cottage and would highly recommend it to anyone,

Perfect Spot!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in Savannah during a cold burst but fortunately the cottage was cozy and we LOVED the fireplace!!! The cottage is nicely decorated and we had all the amenities we needed. It's in a perfect spot....we walked to all the places we wanted to visit (no need for a car....just take a taxi to and from the airport). We loved Elizabeth's and The Grey for dinner and a tour of the Owen-Thomas House is a must! I would definitely recommend this cottage to my friends!

Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I just got home from a two week stay at the Jingle Bells Square Cottage. The cottage is a perfect place to stay in Savannah and very quickly makes you feel like at home. The entire historic district is within easy walking distance. I walked every day to Forsyth Park, which is one of Savannah's crown jewels. The cottage is just charming, beautifully decorated and completely equipped. The kitchen has everything a visitor needs to prepare meals including a fully stocked spice and condiment rack (a rarity in vacation rentals). The gas fireplace is a wonderful addition to winter evenings. I have already made plans to return next year for a longer stay.

Notes:
A few things not found in many Savannah rentals: • QUIET - a quiet residential street, and a one-storey building (no upstairs or downstairs neighbors). Like many historic Savannah homes ours is semi-detached, but we have installed 6 inches of sound insulation between us and the adjacent neighbor. • PRIVATE DECK with outdoor cafe table and chairs and 15-ft-long built-in bench for seating • In the Living Room area - A REALLY COMFORTABLE, QUEEN-SIZE PULLOUT SOFA-BED—one that you would actually be happy sleeping on!—custom manufactured by Rowe Furniture in North Carolina, with “Air Dream” innerspring air mattress system. • High-Definition Flat-Screen TVs (Living Room, Bedroom and Kitchen) with FULL HIGH DEFINITION CABLE, DVR, DVD player, Stereo CD player with iPod dock.
