Begur:
Set in the heart of the Empordà, the town and municipal district of Begur make up one of the most wonderful parts of the Costa Brava. Nestling between the Gavarres hills and the most beautiful part of this coastline, the village of Esclanyà and the small coves of Begur make up an unequalled physical setting.
Begur:
Begur is a town with a profound historical personality, of its medieval castle, coral divers, fishermen, “Indians” (wealthy emigrants returning from Spain’s West Indian colonies) and cork workers have written brilliant pages of a history which is reflected in each street, each house and each corner of the town.
We suggest you make a relaxed walking tour around the town, which can take you between one and two hours depending on your pace. We will call you attention to certain points of interest, although naturally there are others.
In the course of this route, you can see outstanding buildings that invite visitors to relive the town’s history.
We have the majestic dwellings of enriched returners from the colonies, dating from the 19th century, and the defensive towers from the 16th and 17th centuries that afforded refuge for the inhabitants of Begur against invasion by outside enemies and pirates.
We might note particularly Sant Pere Church, in the gothic style
Activities:
Water sports and diving, hiking and cycling tourism, numerous golf courses, leisure and cultural events, gastronomic fairs, concerts and summer festivities and many other activities are held all through the year for visitors to enjoy. Begur offers an excellent choice of accommodation around the town and alongside the coves themselves.
Golf:
The Costa Brava, now one of Spain’s leading golfing destinations, hosts nine golf courses, some of which are recognised among the best in Europe. Within a 20-minute drive of the villa you will find four of these golf courses – Golf Platja de Pals overlooking the Mediterranean, where a number of top class competitions have been held; Golf Gualta situated in a beautiful parkland setting which caters for both novices and seasoned pros and Emporda Golf Course which comprises two separate 18-hole courses.
