Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 1 Bath (Sleeps 7)

Vacation on our 600 acre horse and cattle farm and stay in our Pond House, on the shore of one of the most beautiful ponds you can imagine. Children and adults enjoy fishing, hiking the woodland trails, watching the constant activities of nature around the pond, watching the horses and cattle, and horseback riding with our neighbors at Oakland Heights.

The Pond House was totally rebuilt and refurnished in 2004. It has two bedrooms (one queen, one bunk bed with double bed on bottom), plus a den with queen-sized pull-out couch.

The best feature, however, is the screened back deck overlooking the gorgeous pond.

The Charlottesville area is one of the most beautiful parts of America. The landscape is just wonderful. You enjoy all the amenities of civilization, but in an area that is rural and dotted with small towns and villages. There is a reason why Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Governor Barbour, James Monroe and many other historical figures chose to live in this area, and why a number of modern jet setters have hideaways in the area today.

We love the back porch and pond. Its one of the most pleasant places on earth. The table and chairs out there get lots of use, both at mealtimes and whenever we wish to read or write. Our grandchildren love to stay at the Pond House because its so easy to step out the door and down to the edge of the pond, where they see lots of pond life (turtles, geese, fish and minnows, dragonflies, frogs, crayfish, red-winged blackbirds, hawks & eagles (yes we have golden eagles), etc.).

About Wolf Trap Farm, LLC Keith Cuthrell

I am the nut flying through the air in front of my family there at the farm. The family includes a wife, three adult children and their spouses, and four grandchildren so far. We live in Virginia Beach, and I have been a Virginia lawyer since 1979.

I was looking for a simple mountain getaway cabin and I overshot. This 600 acre farm with its 3 houses and multiple barns and sheds was a huge fixer-upper, but it was in the perfect location.

What makes this cottage unique

Owning Wolf Trap Farm is like having your very own state park, but better. The topography is stunning, and the sheer size of the place just overwhelms you. As children, didn't we all drive by places like this and dream a bit? We have been able to live some of that dream!

The Pond House at Wolf Trap Farm is half-way between Orange and Gordonsville. You make one turn off of U.S. Highway 15, drive a mile up our road and you are there. We are a 30 minute drive from Charlottesville and Monticello (through gorgeous countryside). 15 minutes from Montpelier (Madison's home); Barboursville Winery, Horton Cellars & Keswick Vineyard. Wonderful restaurants in both Gordonsville and Orange. Forty minutes to Skyline Drive. 1/2 mile to Oakland Heights trail rides.

But why leave the farm? With the fishing, hiking, horses, cattle, hot tub, wildlife, peace & quiet . . .

Lovely stress-free stay

Really lovely stay with excellent, responsive hosts. Nice and clean, well-maintained accommodation. They had no problem with us staying just the one night. Lovely relaxing location, farm animals, etc (though not much to do on site, just in case that's what you're expecting). Would happily stay again. :)

Great getaway

The Pond House was the perfect relaxed atmosphere for a weekend with my mother and sister, close enough to Charlottesville to do some excellent wine tasting, far enough away from town to enjoy being out of the loop a bit. The working horse farm is a lovely setting, and the folks working/living there are incredibly nice. We also rented out the entire Manor House the first weekend in June 2012 for UVA Reunion Weekend. Again, an amazing experience. I am not usually a huge B&B fan, but the option of renting out an entire establishment, be it the Pond House for a smallish group or the Manor House, with minimal interference/EXCELLENT customer service from both the hostess Tina and the owner Keith was perfect. Will definitely go back - totally reasonable for the location, plenty of space for kids to run around , also a perfect place to go WITHOUT kiddos.
Recommended for:  Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Beautiful property close to everything!

We had an amazing time the week that we stayed at the Pond House. It was centrally located to most historical places, so that was a major plus. The house is very comfortable, with beautiful views. My favorite thing was the quiet---this is the one thing that I have missed about living in the country. The house had a full kitchen which was great, since we cooked in most nights. Why go out with views like this? We did eat in Gordonsville one night at the little French restaurant and that was amazing!
We went to Montpelier for the wine festival, which was alot of fun. Also went back to Monticello, also went to most of the wineries---favorite was Barboursville! Also did alot of fun antiquing.
My only complaint is that the bed was not the most comfortable---especially for longer stays.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children

To celebrate M_______'s 60th birthday, we chose the Pond House. It was so relaxing and peaceful. The guys enjoyed fishing, while the ladies rode bikes and interacted with the horses. Seeing the baby horse was a highlight! The wineries were awesome, especially Barboursville! This is exactly what we needed!

This was our first time in the Pond House and first year at the farm. This was an amazing vacation for us only a few hours away from Cary. We went to Monticello where we had a blast! We also went fishing with some of our neighbors down the street. The trails were very exciting and the grass was an amazing place for us kids to play tag. Feeding the horses - of course with permission - was a lot of fun. They were so gentle, we even got a chance to help groom them. We will definitely be coming back soon.
