Why John Swailes chose Walker

Lived on this lake every summer for 65 years. Family on this lake for 95 years. Love it summer or winter! Family owns house next door to the north.

What makes this cottage unique

Small lake. Pristine spring fed water. Low boating traffic on the lake nearly all of the time as compared to White Fish Chain, Gull Lake, Ten Mile Lake, Leech Lake, etc. More suitable for families in some ways. More suitable for children venturing out on their own. Better wake boarding and water skiing due to low wave height and quiet boating condiitions. Many bays on the lake. Always a calm spot for trick skiing and trick wakeboarding. Generally good fishing.

House is all new in 2013. Roomy 3 bedroom and two bath cottage. Full laundry. Full living area with separate kitchen and dining spaces. Beautiful bright sunroom sitting area overlooking the lake and beach immediately in front of the house. Spaces flow comfortably together so no one is left out but there are lots of nooks for quiet reading or work. Thoughtfully designed and highly functional house with top quality commerical grade gourmet kitchen. Natural sunlight throughout with plentiful glass for view out to the lake as well as surrounding woodlands. Bedrooms have full closet and dressers. Master bedroom has ensuite bathroom. Sleeping loft has areas for children or adult guests. Spent four years designing and preparing to build this. Corrected all of the flaws in the previous home and then some.

Family Weekend Getaway

I've stayed in several high-end VRBO homes over the last few years - this home is top-notch. From top to bottom, the attention to detail in the home is incredible. My family spent as much time talking about the unique design elements and layout of the home as we did just about any other activity during our weekend stay.

While the sleeping arrangements may not be best-suited for multiple couples (one queen bed and then 5 singles), it was perfectly comfortable for our family of 5 (plus dog) and would be excellent for a group of 6-8 friends. The full house was wired for sound, and the new sound system was easy to control (wireless airplay from smart devices in the living room, and a plug in audio cord for the rest of the house). We cooked all of our meals in the home, and the kitchen was by far the best I've come across (industrial style range, multiple ovens, over-sized sink, multiple dishwashers, and every tool/dish required). The cabinets were filled with spices/oil/coffee filters/etc...all-in-all, it was perfectly prepared for a weekend of cooking and left us with only the primary contents needed for a meal.

It was a bit early in the season to be outdoors too much, as it was quite windy and difficult to safely manage a fire - but I'll be looking to get back up to this cabin to take advantage of the lake ASAP...the spring-fed lake was crystal clear (although just recently iced-out) and the walk-out beach provided a perfect swimming spot. We did, however, take advantage of the walking trail located right next to the home, and the views of the lake from inside the home made the location well worth it regardless of weather. Make sure to get up early for a beautiful view of the sunrise over the lake!

In summary, everything was in working order and extremely clean for our stay. I'd highly recommend a visit to John's cabin.

Winter retreat

My boyfriend and our two dogs stayed at John's cabin for a few days post Christmas. We enjoyed every moment. The description and photos posted are spot yet we still discovered spaces and amenities that we were pleasantly surprised by. We commented to each other numerous times how well designed the home is and how well thought out each space inside was. Coming from a small south minneapolis home it was a small luxury to roam around the space. The views are beautiful, the rooms comfortable, the kitchen more than equipped, shower and bathtub - divine, the best part - a secluded series of trails directly across the street that we enjoyed everyday with the dogs. We have told all of our friends and hope to enjoy it ourselves many more times.

Weekend with the family

The pictures do not do it justice, you have to see it in person to appreciate it. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in, very well laid out and all the amenities you could want. The rest of the house was very comfortable too. We spent a lot of time walking the trails around the property and saw deer, grouse, and pileated wood peckers. John was gracious enough to allow our two golden retrievers to come along and they had a ball running around as well. Very quiet and relaxing weekend I hope we get to go back a little later in the year next year because the lake was not quite froze over yet. If you are even remotely interested in this property I would highly recommend staying here, John went above and beyond what we would have expected to make our stay as enjoyable as it was.

Honeymoon Getaway

John was very professional and considerate. The cabin was exactly as advertised and a joy to stay in. Kitchen was amazing and our favorite room to spend time in and cook. We spent time around a fire, watching movies, walking on trails, and just enjoying the cabin's many views. If you are in need of groceries, there is a great little store just 2 miles away. We had a blast and would highly recommend this cabin if you're looking for a quiet getaway. We hope to go back someday!
