Delightful one bedroom apartment in an architect´s house. Centrally locatd in a nice and quiet residential area. This ground floor apartment is bright and open, and has a separate entrance and garden access. It consists of a bedroom (queen size bed), an open kitchen/dining area/living room, a study room (single bed) and a bathroom with shower; 80 sqm in all. The apartment has just been carefully renovated in a Scandinavian style with design furniture. The apartment is registered for short term leasing and the owners live on the upper floor. Short distance (approx. 1,5-2 km) to Reykjavik´s centre, the city´s finest shopping mall (less than 1 km), the geothermal beach (1,5 km) and outdoor/indoor swimming-pool (2 km). Good access to public transport.
We stayed here in August for a week. The apartment was bright, comfortable, had everything we needed and more. Very close to shopping, easy parking. Bit of a walk to downtown but manageable. When we wanted to accommodate an additional guest one night, our hosts brought another bed for our use. They helped us with travel suggestions, yet we felt we had all the privacy we needed. Hosts live upstairs but nothing ever disturbed us. We highly recommend this rental.
We stayed for 6 nights arriving by taxi via the fly bus with Solveig waiting for us in the moring. Pictures are accurate and we liked this rental very much.
Everything worked which we used and had great internet with 2 sets of keys and welcome written instructions. Very close to Kringlan mall which we purchased groceries at Bonus. Less than 10 minute walk. Ride the free shuttle the mall provides to the visitor's center downtown if you time it right. We did and were able to go whale watching as a walk on for 5pm catching the 430 shuttle. Gotta hustle though. Shuttle is hourly.
pictures are as they appear nicely lit and bright you may need a sleep mask for summer though she does have darker blinds. It is bright though. It is 2 bedroom one with a single/den with books in Icelandic and English and the main bedroom with a small double bed. it is the norm for there, but is a little tight for those used to a queen or king bed. Very cozy. Bathroom has nice towel warmer.
There are enough cooking utensils to make a variety of meals, which we did but the apartment is a little light on cooking supplies like oil, tinfoil. and saran wrap for taking prepped food on road trips. There are spices and tea supplied. No microwave.
Good location but not downtown where the action is, this is a residential area with the school across the street with kids playing etc. Nothing excessive or unusual but not dead quiet.
it is about a pleasant 20 minute walk or a very nice 10 minute bike ride to downtown which our landlady lent us 2 bikes. We rode a couple of times in on very well marked bike lanes/trails and thought they were terrific. Thanks Solveig!
We rented a car for our last 3 days with our landlord giving nice pointers on routes to take and what to see. Very helpful. Apartment is located for really good access for road trips. Rented a car from Hertz about a 5 minute walk to the municipal airport, close to the Pearl lookout and nautical beach.
Take your bathing suit the hot springs are non clorinated and are everywhere. What a great thing Iceland has with the geothermal waters. Not close walking distance to a pool but the beach is near.
I would return to Iceland and this rental. Kind landlords in a beautiful country.
