The owner, Carl, is very nice. The inside is excellent, and was renovated not too long ago. It is very clean. The outside of the building desperately needs paint. It is a bit shocking actually, when you walk up to it. Don't worry, it's nice inside. The only problem for us was that people gathered on the street out front late at night, and made a fair bit of noise. I had to sleep on the pull out couch in the living room, to escape the noise. It is a short bus ride to the subway, maybe a bit too far to walk (12 blocks?). The bus comes every 9 minutes so that is no problem. For the money, it's a good place. There is not much in this price range in New York City.
My friends and I flew into the city to celebrate my birthday and we had the great pleasure of staying in this apt. We were happy to see that the apt looked just as it did in the pictures. : ) Carl thought of everything we might need for our stay, and supplied us with towels, blankets and a very clean apt! This place is very, very spacious and my friends and I were able to sleep very comfortably due to everyone having had their own room. This apt is walking distance from buses and subways, and it's close to a convenience store as well. Carl was very friendly and provided us with directions to transportation, and even gave me a ride to another friend's apt on a rainy day. Where are you going to find hospitality like that in NY?! : D My friends and I really enjoyed staying here and I know that we will definitely stay here next time we are in NY. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is traveling on a budget. Thanks again Carl! :D We really appreciated your hospitality!
The owner is in the process of remodeling the building, but he's already made some nice improvements to the apartment. The rental is very spacious with all the comforts of home and plenty of windows to let the sunshine in. Everything was nice and clean, with cute decorations and the owner provided linens, pillows, towels, toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies. We enjoyed the location too because it is walking distance to restaurants (make sure you check out Bert's catering around the corner) mini marts and bus stops. There's a direct bus from the A train back to the apartment which was very convenient and plenty of street parking. We walked around the neighborhood too and came across other properties that are being renovated so that was nice to see. I definitely recommend this apartment to anyone who's looking for a place to stay that's close to downtown, but be mindful of the stairs. The apartment is located on the 2nd floor so if you have issues navigating stairs then this may not be the place for you.
We enjoyed our stay. The only negative comment I have to say is we had to wait for the AC unit till later that night of arriving, so the first handful of hours were super hot. But Carl (whom was very nice and informative) came in that night and put it in the window and it did wonders. Carl's wife was also very nice and helpful with many of our questions. But besides that our stay was great. It was actually bigger than we thought, with a back little room. Wi-Fi works great as well as cable. Conveniently located near a grocery store and laundry mat (which we took full advantage of) and we were able to park pretty much right outside our window, through our whole stay so we could always see our car. I also felt safe, having to come through multiple locked doors to get to our apartment. Bathroom was very clean, which is a huge priority, as well as kitchenware. It was nice that towels were provided and they were quite soft. As far as the noise, that was commented on in a prior review.. we have a 1 1/2 yr old, and were home most of the nights and slept fine and were not bothered by the minor city volume. Some days we took the subway into the city and sometimes we drove, but the apartment was located close enough to do both in a decent amount of time. Overall it was a steal, and definitely worth our money. We were never bothered by any one. AND a huge plus... was we saved money by staying here and were able to splurge more elsewhere in the city. ALSO... we booked at a very late notice (like with in 48 hours) and Carl stayed in contact and checked in on our 11 hour drive up to NY, to make sure we were getting there safely. And also checked back with us upon returning to NC, to make sure we made it back safe, which was very thoughtful. I would recommend this stay to anyone. Staying here truly enabled us to have an amazing last minute family vacation. Thanks again.
We had a wonderful time time in the apartment. we spent 2 days there, the place was spacious and always warm inside. Had a perfect connection to the internet and cable. Carl was very friendly and helpful. Thanks again.
Even if the area is quite safe, people on our street talked loud and screamed at each other pretty much every night we stay. Police never showed up! We couldn't sleep well on the sofa bed either in the living room because it is not confortable and a neighboor is walking around in is apartment all night long. Carl's wife is nice and they take good care of the apartment ( it's clean ), but they haven't been quite honest about the noise and didn't even offer us a compensation for that. That's a shame. Next time, we will stay probably in Williamsburgh or a similar area to make sure that police come when people are screaming in the middle of the night!
