My husband and I recently bought this home in the city that we love so much. We chose the Marina from all the different areas of SF for many reasons - the neighborhood feel, the walking distance to all the amenities of Chestnut Street, the short distance to the water and the wonderful parks along the bay leading to the Golden Gate Bridge.
The city is a treasure of museums, historic sights and world-class restaurants to enjoy. We have provided a book with recommendations for all of our favorites as well as maps, books and materials for reference. As avid cyclists, we spend much of our “play time” riding our bikes over the bridge and along the beaches and mountain tops of Marin. There are a multitude of hiking trails with the most breathtaking views of the city and ocean imaginable. And for those who bring a car, the wine country of Napa and Sonoma is only an hour away.
Public transportation is easily accessible with many nearby bus lines. But San Francisco is first a walking city and this ideally located home provides easy access to all that the city has to offer.
!!Sailors!! This is a perfect house to use as your America's Cup headquarters. With the race course running close to shore and just off the St. Francis and Golden Gate yacht clubs, you are only 4 blocks from front row viewing.
Located just 4 blocks from the Marina Green, Chrissy Field and the harbors of the San Francisco bay. Walk along the water on the promenade to the Golden Gate bridge, Ft. Mason, Fisherman’s Wharf and on to the Embarcadero. Or stroll by the pond on the grounds of the gorgeous Palace of Fine Arts and or on the trails in the Presidio National Park. You are only 1 1/2 block to Chestnut Street, the heart of Marina award winning restaurants, shopping boutiques, theaters and bars and a short walk to Union and Fillmore Street areas. This home sits on desirable Avila Street, a quiet neighborhood street lined with trees and gardens.
Not to be missed:
Promenade from Ft. Mason to the Golden Gate Bridge: Walk along the waterfront past the boats and harbors, to the beach, through Chrissy Field to the Golden Gate Bridge. Or rent a bike and ride the bike path either toward the bridge or toward Fisherman’s Wharf, the Embarcadero and the Ferry Building.
Golden Gate Bridge: Everyone must walk over the bridge for pictures and the incredible view of the city. Stop at the Warming Hut on the way back for sandwiches and coffee.
Marina Green: Large grass field for flying a kite or a game of Frisbee.
St. Francis Yacht Club and Golden Gate Yacht Club: The Americas’ Cup race course runs right in front of the clubs for up close viewing of all the excitement.
Palace of Fine Arts: Beautifully renovated building and grounds that were originally designed for the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exhibition. Don’t miss walking through at night when the lights create a magical feeling.
Chestnut Street:Just a block away are so many outstanding restaurants, boutiques, markets, coffee shops, bookstores, outdoor dining, bars, exercise and yoga studios and the original BAR Method. You will find a book in the house with all of our recommendations.
Union Street: More restaurants and shopping
Fillmore Street: Even more restaurants and shopping
Ft. Mason: Pick up fresh local vegetables, cheese, meats and fish at the Sunday Farmers’ Market.
Presidio National Recreation Area: Almost 1500 acres and miles of trails through the woods overlooking the water. Home of the Walt Disney Family Museum and LucasArts studio.
Marin County: Avid cyclists will enjoy the easy access to the “bikers’ playground” over the GGB to Marin, the Headlands and Mt. Tamalpais - Some of most incredible rides and trails anywhere.
