Authentic NOLA Experience

I am a Louisiana native, have lived most of my life in the state, and have been visiting New Orleans for over fifty years. I have had great success with Home Away in other cities but this was my first time to use it in New Orleans. The condo is listed accurately and the pictures regarding the layout are also accurate though the property was a bit smaller than we expected. It was very clean and well maintained. Carol hit just the right note. We were able to check in a bit early and she gave us great local information regarding restaurants, music, and even a local Mother's Day Concert in the park. Then she left us alone until time to check out, all of which was painless. The parking on the street was ample. We never drove our car during the four days we were there. The balcony is great and we spent more time than usual just sitting and reading. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs and the street noise will be quite manageable. We never heard a peep out of anyone in the building itself. It was very quiet. even though this is a rental, you get the feel of being a local by staying here. It may just be me, but the city seemed much friendlier than I remembered from recent trips.

This property is on the borderline between the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood and the French Quarter. It always felt safe to us and there are a number of great restaurants nearby. I suggest you take Carol's recommendations. Some of our favorites were Coop's Place, Buffa's, The Ruby Slipper, Croissant d'Or, and Italian Barrel. Cafe Envie on Decatur is a nice coffee shop as well as the Community Coffee Shop on Royal. The French market nearby is not what it was before Katrina but still worth a tour. The World War II Museum keeps expanding and is is a destination for at least a half day trip. A noticeable change in the last couple of years is the prevalence of "pedacabs." My advice is to ask how much they charge before you take off or you will wind up spending $20 to ride a few blocks. After all, NOLA is best enjoyed by walking. You can always take the Street car that runs along the river for $1.25 one way or all day for about $3.

I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wants an authentic New Orleans experience.

Great Location!

The location of this condo was exceptional... it is on the fringe of the French Quarter. Me and my wife felt very safe and we absolutely love the balcony! The balcony is what really makes this condo special! The balcony extends over Esplanade and we could have people watched the entire weekend. You have everything you need in this unit... a full bathroom, a full kitchen, wifi, TV, AC/heat, etc.... our only complaint was the noise level at night from all the activity outside... it wasn't French Quarter traffic, but it was just from late nighters, cars, and motorcycles that were up and down Esplanade throughout the night... If I had some earplugs, I might have used them in order to get a better nights sleep.... but I guess you have to expect that on a busy street in the Big Easy.... Carol was great in explaining our whereabouts and pointing out local places to dine.. our favorite breakfast spot was the Ruby Slipper... great breakfast! We will be inquiring about this unit in the future for another extended weekend!

What can we say, this is the perfect spot. Away from the crowds and noise but close enough to walk to many attractions in the quarter. Also steps away from Frenchman Street where you will find amazing food and music. Carol is so helpful and Ed the owner was very accommodating. We will come back again and again. Everything you need for a quiet getaway.
