VILLA

Pontassieve Villa Rental Photos and Description

Located on a Chianti Rufina vineyard with panoramic views in peaceful Tuscany

Escape into rustic Chianti Rufina and enjoy the timeless pleasures of Tuscany - less than 30 min from Florence!

This small group of buildings was once part of the first line of defences of Renaissance Florence. Now on a working vineyard, they have been converted to create an attractive villa and apartments. Situated in a prestigious Florentine estate which produces an impressive Chianti, there is a panoramic hilltop castle within walking distance. Florence is an easy train ride away, saving the headache of city parking. For 2 people, you can choose between Cipresso, a mini apartment with kitchenette, or Alba and Vista, which both have full kitchens and separate bedroom. If you are travelling in a group of up to 4, select the tab for Villa, the converted barn with two spacious panoramic terraces, two double bedrooms and bathrooms. For larger groups, up to 7, select Antica & Cipresso. Alternatively, groups of up to 13 can rent the whole Borgo. All apartments have their own private terrace with views across the valley.

Approach Road: Please note that there is a 1km rough, farm road to approach the property. The surface of the road is in loose stone and not tarmac. Most of our guests arrive in small hire cars without problems. Ask us for more information if you are concerned.

An idyllic holiday

  • 5 of 5
The house lived up to its description of having spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside. It is situated half way up the hillside in the vineyard, making the approach unsuitable for cars without a reasonable ground clearance, but our hired Golf had no problem. We received a warm welcome and Jane and her husband had provided everything we could possibly require to enjoy our holiday, right down to the timetable for the train into Florence. The house is beautifully restored and has very comfortable accommodation and every mod. con. Jane and her family live in an adjacent property and Pontassieve is only about 10 minutes away so although the property has its unique setting, there is no feeling of remoteness.

Villa at Borgo di Sopra-Highly Recommended!

  • 5 of 5
We just spent 2 weeks renting Villa at Borgo di Sopra. The unit was beautifully appointed and very comfortable (the beds are wonderful). It has amazing views of the countryside that you can enjoy from the patios. We ate out a lot but there is a fully equipped kitchen which allowed us to cook in as well. We enjoyed having breakfast and often dinner at the outdoor table on the patio every day.

The location was perfect for driving to the larger cities (such as Siena) and small towns (such as Arezzo, Poppi and San Gimigniano) famous in Tuscany. It is also a 20 min train ride from Florence-(driving to Florence is not recommended). Jane and Giampiero are very welcoming and accommodating-when asked, they had many suggestions for local restaurants, areas for hiking and anything you might need.

Note that the property is located up in the hills among vineyards - the approach road is not paved and very narrow-we got used to it but there are no quick trips to get a quart of milk! It is a bit isolated, so if you are used to vacationing in a busier location, this may not be for you. We found it very relaxing and we enjoyed the quiet by reading or napping after long days of sightseeing. We also enjoyed hiking up in the hills above the property (there is a winery with a castle dating back to around the year 1000 that is really interesting).

Only one caution - it is probably not a good choice for a family with active children-not much to do once back at the property.

Home from home

  • 5 of 5
This is our 2nd visit and it definitely won't be our last. We first visited in August'11 on recommendation of a friend. Jane & Giampiero's knowledge of their region is spot on be it restaurants, shops or places to visit.
The house has everything you need for your holiday- comfortable and relaxing with the most amazing views of the vineyard and surrounding Tuscan countryside. It is a well- maintained property with the owners making sure your stay is a positive experience. A number of evenings were spent outside drinking a bottle of the vineyards amazing wine and star gazing - clearest skies we've ever seen. There were shooting stars a plenty - even without the wine.
On this visit we saw local wildlife including deer, squirrels and even a porcupine!!
Enjoyed every minute of our stay and would definitely recommend this property to family and friends.
Thank you once again for making our summer holiday a very happy one.

Charming and lovely

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. Jane and her husband could not have been more helpful. A storm had knocked out the modem for the WiFi and they generously opened their house a couple of times so we and our friends could use our computers. The setting is gorgeous and the house itself is wonderful. The road to the house is bumpy and fairly long but would not stop us from staying there again. We found it easy to take the train into Florence and again, Jane and Giampiero (sp.?) were helpful with information.
Many thanks for a great vacation spot.

Our Italian bolthole

  • 5 of 5
Since writing our first review, we have returned in March and September every year. The wonderful setting and the warm greeting from Jane, Giampiero and Vita never fails to work it's magic on us. The house is so well situated if you want to experience the sights and gastronomic delights of Tuscany, just far enough from the town to be in the country and close enough for all the services and the view across the valley on an early Autumn morning is breathtaking. Jane and Giampiero have advised us many times on places to visit and routes to take. There is everything available to you here that you could possibly need to enjoy an idyllic holiday.

The 2 main airports in Tuscany (Pisa and Florence) are easily accessible . Short breaks are feasible all year round! You'll know you have made an escape from routine, though, when you drive down the winding approach road. You pass through vineyards with a historic castle and our property above you in the distance. You are now in the Nipozzano estate of the noble Florentine family of Frescobaldi. From your apartment, a pleasant walk, with superb views, will take you up to the castle. There the wine is aged in the historic cellars and you can taste and buy all Frescobaldi wines. Numerous other panoramic walks dot the area (the historic monastery of Vallombrosa is not far either). For renaissance culture, we are near Florence and Arezzo. Regular trains from Pontassieve station (5 minutes away) to central Florence take only 20-25 minutes. Alternatively, designer outlet discounts from Gucci, YSL, Todds etc are to be found at the Mall, outside Leccio, 15 minutes away.

Other Activities: Wine tasting.
