HISTORIC & PRIVATE 2-BEDROOM BEACH ESTATE, 16 ACREAS, 600' BEACHFRONT

Governor's Harbour Estate Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom plus den with sofa bed, 3 bathrooms

This spacious villa sits on a hilltop surrounded by 16 private acres of gardens, palms, and flowering trees. Extensive glass provides stunning 50-mile, 180-degree ocean views from every major room. Walk down your stone steps to enjoy 600 feet of private pink-sand beach lapped by gin-clear Bahamian water.

Originally constructed over half a century ago, Agave (pronounced “ah-GAH-vay”) Hill has been restored with modern conveniences. The house was designed with grand proportions, and has over 4000 square feet of living space. The spacious living room, which looks out on the ocean, measures 31 x 21 feet and is furnished with couches, chairs, a card table with seating for four, a fireplace, and a baby grand piano. Connected to it is a separate formal dining room. The vintage kitchen has modern appliances cindluing refrigerator/freezer, electric range and oven, microwave, and dishwasher. There is also a laundry room with washer and dryer.

Consistent with the grand proportions of the house, the master bedroom measures 16 x 21 feet, and is air conditioned. The second bedroom is almost as large. Both are furnished with queen beds and have full en-suite bathrooms. Both have doors opening to porches with ocean views.

Among Agave Hill’s most delightful features are its two large sun porches, fully enclosed, with walls of windows looking out over the ocean. The White Porch is furnished with a fold-out couch and can be used as an additional sleeping room. It also has a card table with seating for four and a telescope to take advantage of its sweeping views. There is a third full bathroom nearby. The Orange Porch has comfortable lounge seating for five and a satellite TV. The house features three open porches as well, most with ocean views.

Agave Hill’s thick stone walls, Atlantic breezes, and water cisterns beneath keep the house cool year-round.

Every major room is equipped with ceiling fans and operable windows to enjoy the breeze. Other amenities at Agave Hill include high-speed internet, WIFI, landline telephone, fax machine, printer, and CD-radio player. For outdoor use there are two beach chairs and a tent. Beach towels are provided.

Beside the house, Agave Hill has a large and beautiful flagstone patio with sweeping ocean views and surrounded by landscaped gardens. The patio is furnished with tables, chairs, and a charcoal grill. After enjoying an outdoor meal on the hilltop patio, relax in the nearby hammock strung between coconut palms. Or climb the water tower stairs to the upper deck and enjoy panoramic views of both oceans. Agave Hill is the perfect spot to relax in total privacy surrounded by natural beauty. The long flight of stone steps down the hill to the beach is surrounded by a flowering hillside garden.

If you enjoy fine dining and nightlife, you won’t have to go far. A two-minute walk down the beach will take you to the boutique luxury resort Sky Beach Club.

Sky Beach Club has an excellent restaurant and beachside infinity pool with swim-up cocktail bar. Sky Beach Club has poolside service—meals and drinks--all day long. A ten minute drive will take to famous Tippy’s restaurant and The Beach House tapas restaurant. Several other restaurants are within a 15 minute drive. Most feature live music one or two nights a week.

The town of Governors Harbour, five minutes away by car, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.

The island of Eleuthera is famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is completely safe any time of the day or night. Enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving your keys in the car wherever you go. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. There is excellent sightseeing as well--vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches.

HEAVENLY GETTAWAY

  • 5 of 5
Overall, my husband and I loved our experience at the Agave Hill property. The lack of air conditioning was a challenge as the weather was exceptionally warm but we loved the spaciousness of the house and dealt with the heat and humidity by firing up the fans everywhere. Also for the duration of our stay, we tried to get the tv to work to no avail which became a blessing as we used the wifi and did things online.

The estate is quite lovely and is an excellent place to rest which we did. It was exquisite.

FANTASTIC HOLIDAYS!!

  • 4 of 5
We had fantastic holidays on the beautiful estate. The beach was perfect - very private with almost no other people around. Sometimes guests from the beach club were at the beach but never more than a handful and very friendly people. The water at the beach was usually great but on some days we had quite rough waves. The gardener was great - he allowed us our privacy and and was doing a great job keeping the garden in shape. Even though we stayed for around ten days we only saw the cleaner at the very end of our holidays and then she did not come in, however that was fine for us. A little problem was the heat in the house - because there is only ceiling fans around the house and an outdated aircon in the bedroom. We did almost never use it to preserve energy and because it did not make much of a difference. After the first two days we adjusted to the climate though. I loved the shower in the garden when coming from the beach and climbing up the long set of stairs . so refreshing! The terrace was absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing view from there and always a light breeze from the beach. It was really nice to stay in a house with local style and history. It also was very spacey. We had to get used to the fact that the house was not really locked, but we guess there is no need as we heard the crime rate is extremely low. I would definitely stay here again however probably at a time of the year when it is not as hot. THANK YOU and ALL THE BEST!!!!

WARNING: PROPERTY NOT AS IT APPEARS IN PHOTOS

  • 1 of 5
It is such a shame that this property, which is located in a stunning setting above a pristine beach, has been left to utterly decay/rot and has been woefully neglected by the owners. We stayed here (my husband, our 3 month old and a friend) in February 2013 for a week. We seriously considered leaving upon seeing the state of the house, but having a baby with us, I decided we would stay. The problem with the house is it is simply not maintained AT ALL. Broken lamps, rusted everything, mould, broken tiles on the floor, etc. It was incredibly frustrating because the house has a great setting overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches I've seen but for what you are going to pay the owners NEED to UPDATE and FIX many parts of the interior and just simply pay attention to the place. The property is for sale actually and has been for a long time...this is possibly why the owners are not putting any money into it...but that is not fair for people renting. The photos depicted are VERY DECIEVING and really hide all of the rot, mould, disrepair, etc. the once lovely home has endured over the years. When you e-mail the rental company dealing with this property, they will tell you it is "quirky" and send you a very well written description which explains how the kitchen is "original" because the owners are architects and did not want to alter anything. I appreciate that. I too have the SAME original kitchen in my original art deco home in Niagara On The Lake...I even have the same handles on the cupboard doors! BUT maintenance on older properties is imperative and that has not been done at Agave Hill. Eleuthera is a wonderful place...I'm sure you will love it, but for the price this rental is charging, I'd strongly suggest renting elsewhere.

TRULY INCREDIBLE LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
We were lucky enough to spend a month at this wonderful home. We loved the beach, the people, the location, the island, everything! The house is very large with comfy beds, nice linens, renovated bathrooms and terrific views. The kitchen could use some updating but everything works and we found all that we needed. The cleaning lady and garden provide excellent service and work very hard. We cannot wait to return!

FANTASTIC

Absolutely perfect. Agave hill is secluded and quite, but just close enough to town to enjoy the amenities Eluthera has to offer. The island is wonderful, our group loved Agave hill and would definitely recommend it!
