Jungle, ocean, sunsets, monkeys, butterflies, mapaches, iguanas - and virtually no neighbors!

This house has plenty of indoor space and plenty of outdoor space as well, both covered and open-air deck s. There is a roofed outdoor area above the pool deck that measures 600sq.ft. and the pool and pool-deck roughly measure 800 sq. ft. Hop in the pool, get some sun, feel better about life and then relax on one of our lounge chairs or sit back in the shade of our covered deck. See the monkeys go by while losing yourself into the deep green/blue ocean of the quiet/peaceful/gorgeous Bisanz Bay. Relax, sit back, unwind, de-stress and enjoy one of the magnificent ocean views on the planet according to the Ottawa Citizen, which calls the Barba Roja Restaurant (100 meters from the Barba Roja House) 'One of the Top 5 places in the world to watch water.' We are here to help make your vacation stress-free! Ask us about a private chef to dine in, tours and activities in the area, transportation to and from San Jose or other parts of Costa Rica.

And the absolute best part, while this house is located close to all of these locals, there is virtually no noise of any sort due to jungle on four sides of the house. Even the beach is only 12 minute-downhill walk (the uphill is NOT 12 minutes).

This house is centrally located at the halfway point between the beaches of Manuel Antonio and the town of Quepos. This house is only 130 meters off of the main road, yet is nestled into the jungles of Costa Rica so that all you hear are the sounds of nature. This recently remodeled home is fully furnished and extremely comfortable, and filled with top of the line appliances, as well as teak wood furniture and ceilings, plus a brand new pool and loft to make the house more livable. The pool and outdoor deck and shower were built in Sept of 2011.

There are 2 full bedrooms and a loft. In the largest bedroom, there are 2 queen-size beds, a full-size bed in the master bedroom and two twin beds in the loft. The bathrooms are reasonably large and comfortable.

The beaches of Manuel Antonio are a 3 minute drive or a 12 minute downhill walk. there is an international grocer just a 5 minute walk away, and there are activities and tours of all kinds and excitement levels that will complete your jungle adventure.

About Heather Burt

I moved to Manuel Antonio in Aug of 2004 because I simply fell in love with the delightful Costa Rican people and the convergence of powerful elements all meeting in one place - the mighty Pacific Ocean, the strong sun, the wildness of the jungle, the tropical animals and foods, the strong winds and rains . . . We lived there with our two girls until April of 2012 when we moved back to Florida - and we now long for the days when we get to go and visit Manuel Antonio ourselves. We hope you love Costa Rica as much as we do!

Heather Burt purchased this house in 2004

Great House

  • 5 of 5

We had so much fun here at Casa Barba Roja! The house is a perfect location between Quepos and the National Park and within walking distance to several FANTASTIC restaurants. We really enjoyed Café Milagro, Café Agua Azul, Emilios Café and the list goes on! The kitchen is nice size to be able to cook a large meal or enjoy some blended drinks (as we did). The view is to die for and we ended up with several different types of wildlife that came to visit.

Josue was available anytime we needed him and booked several trips that we would recommend again, especially the mangrove kayak tour as well as a sailboat tour with Sunset Tours and ask for Minor!! Roxanne kept the house in good shape and even did our laundry for us. It was fabulous going home with clean clothes!

The only downside was the pool pump went out while we were there but Josue was on top of it and got it fixed right away. He even allowed us to use another pool in the meantime.

We will definitely visit again in the future and would love to bring the kids next time.

Beautiful, perfect location, amazing views

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for opening the doors to your beautiful home in Manuel Antonio. Everything was wonderful, from the warm and informative welcome by your house manager (he was also very helpful with our luggage), the amazing ocean view from the upper porch and the beautiful pool, to the neatness of everything in the house. We had everything we could have wanted and more! The house is extremely comfortable, a quiet retreat in the magical rainforest. Hope to be back some day:-)

This house is beyond gorgeous with the most beautiful view! It is simply PERFECTION! Walking distance from everything including the beach. The house is so comfortable and has everything you need. Owner is so kind and the concierge will guide you and help you in anything you need. If this was not enough, the monkeys come visit always, really in short it's a DREAM HOUSE! I would come back in a heart beat!

View to Die For, Perfect Spot in Manuel Antonio

  • 5 of 5

We were getting married in Costa Rica and wanted somewhere memorable to stay the following week, the Casa Barba Roja did not disappoint. The view is simply to die for, it's beautiful and amazing to chill and relax on the deck or by the pool. And although the view for most is probably the main selling point of this rental, the house itself is equally as good.

The house is large and spacious, the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might need to make meals and there is also a BBQ outside that was great to use one night to grill up some fish. The house it is kept very clean with maids coming in almost daily. Since it was just the two of us on our honeymoon the size of the house was perhaps too big for us but we did not care as we liked the privacy this house provides.

We would like to go back sometime in the future but with some family/friends, there is more than enough space to accommodate a family or if you went with another couple.

Another reason I picked this rental was it's location, I think it's in a good spot that it is maybe half way between the main town and the national park. There is several restaurants within walking distance as well as a bank and some shopping. We had a car rental so it was easy for us to get around but you can also take the local bus which is very cheap and runs regularly, in fact if you are going to the Park I would recommend taking the bus instead of trying to park down there.

I don't really have anything negative to say about this place, only a few nitpicking things which I'll detail here but I don't think any of which are big issues. Water pressure is kind of low and there isn't much hot water but this to be somewhat expected in a place like this, the BBQ there isn't as nice as the one shown in the photos (still worked fine though), the locking/security routine for the house was a bit tedious at times (we did not experience problems with it like some of the other reviews but it was kind of tedious to remember to lock all the different locks the correct way), the walkway wasn't an issue for us but if you have any mobility issues/trouble walking then going up and down the path all the time may be hard for you. Also remember there is a $300 cash deposit upon arrival, I forgot about that detail but no biggie.

Check-in/out went smoothly with Josue the contact.

In short we were very happy with the rental, everything went pretty smoothly and we had a great time. We hope to come back again in the future.

Memorable Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Casa Barba Roja! The benefits of this property are many starting with the house host Josue, AKA Curlachini! Curlachini helped us arrange activities prior to arrival by offering his insight as to the best things to do and who to do it with. With his help we set up inshore fishing, White Water Rafting and a Zip Line experience before arriving. Curlachini personally called each event to confirm our pick up times, location and details, he is AWESOME!

Upon our arrival Curlachini met us at the Barba Roja restaurant to orient us to the property and share what to do in the area on foot. The house, appointments and views of Casa Barba Roja are incredible just as all the others expressed. We saw Monkeys, beautiful sunsets and interesting birds while enjoying the deck and pool. We didn't use the inside table once since it was so amazing outside - and no bugs! Pay close attention to the way the house alarm and locks work. You'll feel good about the security but not so good when the alarm is howling or when you are locked out.

The Restaurant Barba Roja quickly became one of our favorites. The staff is incredible friendly, the Manager, Toro, looks after you as a guest of Casa Barba Roja (you get a 10% discount too) and the food was incredible. Toro's twin brother works down the hill and is an excellent individual managing a cool property. Up the street you should stop in for Falafel, very good and around the corner there on the left swing in to Emilios for Tuna, adult beverages and an incredible view.

Our stay at Casa Barba Roja, Curlachini, the people we met and experiences we had exceeded our expectations. At no time did we feel unsafe but it is advisable to learn some Espanol before arriving, the locals like it when you try! Be cool and others will be cool to you. Have fun!!

Owner's Response: Hey there Anonymous!! We are so glad that you enjoyed are house and the beautiful sunsets and gorgeous ocean views! We hope to see you back soon.

Perfect location and we felt

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful and the location was very convenient. The description was very accurate but there is no way to describe the complete beauty you see when you sit on the deck or swim in the pool.

There is complete flexibility. If you want to have a week on your own, the grocery store and several restaurants are within easy walking distance and the local bus is just a few steps away. However, Josue was available to arrange any day trips we wanted to take. All we needed to do was tell him what we wanted and he arranged everything. He is knowledgeable and honest and we felt well taken care of without feeling any pressure to use his services if we didn't need them. Roxanna takes good care of the house and was also very flexible. We did have one issue with keys breaking but it was more a result of the heat, humidity and aluminum material used in Costa Rica to make keys. They are "soft" but since we were given two sets of keys we were able to get into the house easily and a replacement key arrived the next day with no hassle on our part.

Our three daughters loved the place and we were able to enjoy a full week of peace and happiness.

Owner's Response: Hey there Susan! We are so very happy that you all enjoyed your week at the Casa Barba Roja!!! The key issue is something we will have to fine tune since it has now happened twice, although I think you are correct about he keys being made of a "soft" material. I am not sure what remedy we will find but there is one out there!! It was wonderful having you all as guests in our house and we hope you will come back again soon and visit us!
