Photos and Description of the Duck Creek Village vacation cabin rental
Cabin, 3 Bedrooms 1 bath + inflatable queen bed, Billiards/Foosball (Sleeps 6-8)

This cozy cabin is located 1 mile from Duck Creek Village in southern Utah south of Cedar City. Located within an hour of the cabin is Zion National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Bryce Canyon National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Panquitch Lake, and Brian Head Ski & Summer Resort. Many opportunities to mountain bike, canoe, hike, or fish in the beautiful surroundings.

In addition to a few mountain shops and stores, there are ATV’s/Snowmobiles available for rent in Duck Creek Village - more than 500 miles of ATV trails (which can also be accessed by vehicle) lead to popular fishing spots such as Aspen Mirror Lake, Navajo Lake,& Duck Creek Pond. Nearby places to explore are Ice Cave, Mammoth Creek Lava Caves, and Cascade Falls. Equestrian oppertunities in the summer.

The cabin itself is nestled in the back of a large half-acre lot covered in aspen and pine trees. Basement has foosball, pool table/table tennis games, storage & laundry facilities.

Further Details: Behind the cabin is a picnic table, fire pit, and very peaceful surroundings secluded from the road. On the front deck we often see deer, wild turkey, and birds. The cabin sleeps 6-8 people. There is a king bed in the Master bedroom, a queen bed in the 2nd bedroom, a queen bed in the upstairs loft, and a queen inflatable bed used to accommodate additional guests. Child's PacknPlay bed and toddler high-chair is also available.

The wood burning stove creates a wonderful aroma and keeps the cabin very warm along with the wall units. Board games, cards, books and movies are provided in the common area along with DirectTV, and additional entertainment is in the 'walk-in' basement/game room, which includes Foosball, pool table, and a weightlifting machine for those who can't relax.

This cabin is the perfect vacation get away for families and friends!!! Please email me for additional pictures. And please no smoking! Pets are welcome with prior approval.

FYI: Owners are in the process of purchasing 2nd cabin in Duck Creek that should be closing by the end of May, 2013. Some clean up and preparations will be required prior to making the 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 1700sqft. cabin available to guest. If your desired dates are not available with the Chillin' Post, you are welcome to inquire directly with me until I can get our new cabin posted on this website.

About Owner: Valerie Edwards

We work hard & like to play hard and enjoy outdoor activities. Duck Creek provides such a variety of opportunities for fun & excitement. Just leaving the craziness of Las Vegas & the 100+ temperatures for the cooler scenic views of UT is a true blessing. We were able to purchase our cabin at such a great price so we enjoy passing the savings on to others and aim to keep them affordable.

Owner: Valerie Edwards purchased this cabin in 2011
Why Owner: Valerie Edwards chose Duck Creek Village

We absolutely love the outdoors and with so many National Treasures surrounding Duck Creek, it is simply the best place to be. The Piute ATV Trails are right down the road and with our ATV’s, we can leave for an entire day of riding and then sit back and enjoy a glass of wine on the deck while BBQ and socializing with friends & family. Having annual passes at the National parks allow us to share our joy of the outdoors with our kids, grandchild and our son's Boy Scout Troop.

No Heat in Bedrooms, Bad Smell in Living Room, Terrible Experience

  • 1 of 5
  • Submitted: May 27, 2013
  • Stayed: Apr 2013
We had a really miserable time in this cabin: the night we spent there, the cabin could not support the two space heaters provided for the bedrooms, which kept overloading the circuits and putting out the electricity. We spent the whole night shivering in all our clothes and felt sick the next morning. After we said we couldn't stay there without heat, and left the next morning, the owner would not refund us for the night without heat AND charged us a cleaning fee. I'm sure it's a fine place when everything goes well, though the living room does smell quite strongly like bad air freshener and gave me a headache. But if anything goes wrong, BEWARE. You will be the one who ends up paying for it. Absolutely the worst rental experience we've ever had on VRBO.
Owner's Response: As you know, there are two sides to every story, and the following explanation will allow you the opportunity to decide who is responsible for the bad experience this guest had. It is understandable that Rita & Chris were extremely cold but they failed to ever use the 2 main heat sources provided in the cabin which were in fact working properly. Instead they chose to go to bed without ever starting a fire and simply forgot entirely about the wall heater. Instead they relied only on the 2 small portable space heaters to heat the entire cabin-not realistic. We use a professional cleaning service, who uses standard cleaning supplies and the odor complaint was not ever discussed previously. In fact, the guest originally stated that my cabin was a “lovely property and they definitely wanted to come back.”
I corresponded with both ladies multiple times prior to their arrival and they stated that they “tend to get cold easily”. I specifically informed them, that the wood stove is the main source of heat, supplemented by living room and bathroom wall heaters. We do provide space heaters but they are not to be relied on as the sole heat source.
The following morning I was notified that the guests were experiencing some problems with the portable space heaters and I was making arrangements for the handyman to stop by. In trying to decipher the extent of any possible problem, I asked if the wall heater was hot. To my dismay the guests admitted that they had forgotten about the wall heater. Further discussion also revealed that they never light a fire in the wood stove. As a direct result of their own actions, and not of the cabin or the owner, the guests were cold.
Lastly, the handyman was unable to get to the cabin within the 46 minutes Rita & Chris allowed between the notification of a problem and their departure. They had booked the cabin for 5 days and because they were unwilling to use the existing capabilities of the cabin, left within 12 hours of their arrival. I was well within my rights to keep their entire payment but chose to only charge them for what they used, as other inquiries were turned away. They threatened this bad review if they didn’t get a full refund, but I believe my actions were fair and hope you understand.
The important thing is, the cabin has been used before and after Rita & Chris’s visit-without incident! I guarantee you that I will do my part to make your stay as comfortable as possible but you must do your part as well.

Amazing

Our stay at this cabin was nothing short of amazing. There was an open line of communication between myself and the owner and she was willing answer any and all questions that I had. Valerie provided books of things to do in the area. There were space heaters in each of the bedrooms (which worked terrifically) as well as wall heaters in the living room and bathroom. In the kitchen, there were spices provided as well as pots and pans, cooking utensiles, plates, glasses, everything that you could possibly need. Wood was provided for the wood stove to take the chill off the air at night. There was a campfire ring out back and wood provided for that as well. There was even wi-fi for those times we needed to check our email or post pictures of the place on facebook. We will DEFINITELY be staying here again.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your generous review. We love to hear that our guests had a great time and that their experience with the Chillin' Post was a positive one. We look forward to having you visit with us again.
