When you awaken in the morning you will gaze out at the blue Caribbean, the Great Mayan Reef, and the white sand beach. You will marvel at the sensuous curves and Fairy Tale buildings of Half Moon Bay. You will be amazed as pelicans in formation glide by your widow. You might even glimpse the resident osprey as he fishes for dinner over the reef. As you drink your morning coffee you can gaze out at the horizon as you plan your day's activities.
In short the views will knock your socks off.
We had a wonderful 8-day family vacation in Akumal. The condo and surrounding facilities were even better than appeared on the website, and people taking care of the place were very friendly and helpful. Our 12-month old had his first experience of the ocean. It was the best vacation ever. -T
We had such an amazing stay at this property and totally fell in love with Akumal. It's a sleepy little beach town with gorgeous beaches and a relaxing vibe. Our condo was perfect. Although the weather was super hot and humid, the lack of air conditioning was not really a big deal. The sea breeze through the condo was really all you needed. We were able to witness sea turtles nesting, a hatch and swim with those beauties as well. The staff at the condo, Hector and friends, was also wonderful. Very accommodating and genuinely nice people. We loved this place so much and can't wait to return!
This property is very well maintained and located the north end of Half Moon bay. The view from the floor to ceiling windows was spectacular, and you could open one section of windows to take it all in. There was always a strong breeze on the third floor of this condo, so we never had a problem cooling off. The beach and pool areas are so nice that a couple of mornings and afternoons we just lingered at the condo and had an occasional snorkel run out into the bay. The entry to the bay is a little shallow at low tide, but the payoff is the coral and sea fans out in the center. There are two resident sea turtles out there along with lots of fish.
One feature that is not described is the groovy rear porch with built in seating cushions, a table, and a hammock. We spent several evenings out on the back "porch" enjoying the view and our Cuban cigars. The kitchen was very well stocked.
If you go to Akumal make sure to stock up at the Super Chedrai grocery store in Puerto Aventuras before you get to Akumal. The prices at the grocery stores in Akumal are pretty high - especially the wine and Tequila! Maid service was great! We had fun practicing our Spanish with them. The building manager Hector was around quite a bit and very helpful. We always had a parking spot at the condo, and we recommend having at least a bicycle or car rental. It was a 2 KM walk from the condo to the town of Akumal.
If you go try to find the secret hidden beach XCACEL between the Grand Bahia Principe and XCARET. Evidently the sign blew down, so you have to watch for a dirt road entrance on the highway. Once you get in they ask for a donation. It is well worth it! Pristine white beaches with coconut trees for shade, and a small fresh water Cenote full of tiny fish that will nibble on your toes...
Our family of six absolutely loved this condo! It was better than the photos depicted, extremely clean, with just about everything one could every need. ( I would have loved a hairdryer and maybe beach chairs/umbrella, but that is about it. ) With only two beds, we were worried that on any given night, two of our four teenagers wouldn't be comfortable on the couches. As it turned out, they fought over who slept on the couches! No one wanted to leave the absolutely incredible view, even to sleep! As a mom of four teenagers, it was such a luxury to have someone clean up after us every day. We prefer to vacation in quieter locales, and Akumal and the condo location at the far end of Half Moon Bay were perfect for us. Such peace and quiet! Our vacations are spent in the water, and we found the snorkeling to be quite good. We like to try different places each vacation, but we have already given it serious consideration to come back again next year. Thank you, Michael!
this was our second stay here, and just as before it was perfect. many thanks to michael, the managers and the staff at iguana for good vibe and friendliness. hoping to make it back next year.
Our group of four could not have been happier with this place. It was a perfectly-stocked, well-kept breezy open apartment with wonderful views (seriously: I've stayed at two other places in Akumal and the views their couldn't compare, both because of the location on the bay and the floor to ceiling windows). The energy is very positive and perfect for a get-away.
The kitchen had everything you could want for lots of cooking, the property manager was accessible and very helpful, and we spent the entirety of our days on the lovely little beach section right in front of the place (also well located since it has the sun for the longest amount of time on the bay). I recommended it to my sister, but warned her that if she brought her 6-year-old she'd want to make sure she brought outdoor/water sandals since the shallow sea just in front of the place is fairly rocky/barnacle-filled.
Best location in the Riviera Maya situated between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Small community with beautiful beaches, restaurants, snorkeling in Half Moon Bay, fishing. Close proximity to golf, scuba, beachcombing, and many other activities. “Akumal” means “place of the turtles” in the Mayan language. In season, you can watch the turtles lay their eggs and then march to the sea. This is monitored by the Ecological Center of Akumal.
The apartment has high ceilings with windows from top to bottom. This condominium has a large private patio with hammock. Each bedroom has a king size bed and private terraces. Property is walled for privacy and has a pool in the causeway under the building with Caribbean views. We have an ideal placement at the end of Half Moon Bay in Akumal where the road ends.
