I love the Kimball Hill Inn!

  • 5 of 5
I love the Kimball Hill Inn! I have been there three times in the past two years (August 2012, October 2012, and August-September 2014).

The location is perfect - it's idyllic, gorgeous, and serene and it's perfect for weekend getaways and romantic adventures!!!

it is a very easy drive from Canada (just over an hour from the border). The host's hospitality is second-to-none. The kitchen is outfitted with everything you need for a home away from home -- we cooked some magnificent gourmet meals during our stay!! The beds are high quality, as are the linens and towels, and I slept so well in the fresh mountain air.

The Inn is located near several beautiful little New Hampshire towns. It's close to hiking trails and loads of little antique shops. It's also just an hour or so away from the shopping outlets in North Conway.

I highly recommend Kimball Hill Inn to anyone looking for a magical place to spend a weekend, a week, or longer. I look forward to returning there this fall to see the leaves turning red, orange, and yellow!!

A great place for a big group!

  • 4 of 5
We decided to stay at Kimball Hill Inn because of it's unique atmosphere and we were not dissapointed. Our group of 11 people, made up of 6 kids and 5 adults, was quite charmed by this old Inn. The kids went nuts with the pub area. They kept wanting to serve our food and drink like a restaurant. Something we don't get at home! The rooms are charming and clean. The uneven flooring on the second floor is quite representative of the age of the place and we liked it. The kitchen is made up of two areas so we hade to adjust our work habits to the layout but it was fun to cook in a restaurant style gas equipped kitchen. We could have been even more people without bumping into each other. It's close to Brettonwood ski resort. We went skiing there 2 days and the conditions were perfect. The only downside is the that there people living upstairs and we can hear everything that they say. In our case, we knew about it prior to arriving so it did not really bother us that much. Charles, the inn keeper was very nice and very helpful when we had questions or needed something. All in all, it was a success and we hope to stay there again next year for our ski trip.

A memorable weekend!

  • 4 of 5
On the weekend of Feb 9-12, I was part of a group of five couples staying at the inn. I’ll try not to re-iterate the comments of Dave H. and Dina B. The TV is a 40” projection set with component connections. Don’t bring your HDMI or apple TV, not much use. But one of us brought an Apple Express and set up a mini network, which we joined all our Ipods, Ipads and laptops to. All of which allowed us to have a massive Itunes library we played through the house system, (surround sys for the TV). A few of us are musicians and we brought instruments. Can’t express the good times we had. Next year full drum set for me.
Many in the group were good cooks and picked breakfast, or lunches, or dinners to prepare, (we brought way too much food).
The kitchen was more than adequate for the meals prepared and seriously we had some good cooks working it. One thing though, bring steaks! It’s a restaurant grill that’s begging to be used.
Never saw the neighbors, if there were any. Great views and total seclusion.
The bar was the most used location from bloodymary’s in the morning to each couples signature drinks in the evening. Too many self-proclaimed bartenders though.
Charlie was always available, but hardly visable. He supplies all the tools for you to create your own good time.
We get away a fair amount and this was one of the most enjoyable weekends we’ve ever had. Can’t wait until next year.
Final note, if you go looking to get away and have a good time, you’ll have a great time. If you’re looking to be pampered, this is not for you. Unless you bring that special someone with you.

Great Place to Stay

  • 4 of 5
Last weekend was our stay at Kimball Hill Inn. We were a group of five couples and made a long weekend arriving on Thursday. The inn is in good shape, everything being clean in in good condition. Like the other reviews said it is not a 5 star hotel but I was not expecting it to be. The whole charm of the place is it antiquity and atmosphere. I loved that the hard wood floors creaked a bit and
was amazed at how great those original floors looked being that the house is pretty
old.

What you see in the pictures is what you are getting. I’m not going to reiterate the
same things that David H. in the previous review ,who was on the same trip as us. Just want to say that Charlie was very helpful and could be found if we needed him. We were a pretty self-sufficient group that really got into being our own innkeepers. We loved using the kitchen and bar. The lounge area is so comfortable and welcoming that is were we always seemed to end up. Someone was always feeding the wood stoves and we stayed pretty warm.

We had no problem with the people “living” on the top floor – yes I did hear the little one running around on the first day – but never heard him at all at night. Maybe Charlie should mention it in the rental information so that people are not surprised.

We really enjoyed our stay and made some lasting memories with our friends.
Definitely will return again. Thanks Charlie.

Just what we needed...

  • 4 of 5
We were a group of 5 couples looking for a long weekend getaway. So here is how it went..
My wife and I arrived a bit earlier than expected and ahead of the rest of our group. Charles came out of the house and greeted us with a smile. He was in the middle of preparing for us but welcomed us in and gave us a walk through pointing out some of the essentials. As this is a 200 yr old establishment things are not perfect like a 5 star hotel but that is part of the charm of the place. Charles reviewed the wood stoves and kitchen and assessed how much "help" we would need.

The "live in" family was explained to us and we got to meet them the following day. Very nice people who were barely there and when they did come and go they were quick and quiet and almost apologetic for coming down the stairs and out the door...we were happy to meet them. Yes you can hear them move about over the 2nd floor bedrooms but was never a disturbance.

We popped a fuse but Charles came right in and turned it back on and because we were comfortable he showed us where the breakers were just in case it popped again.

We spent most of our time in the bar/entertaining area and even ate our meals there ...the room set up as a dining room was huge and readily available but we were just as comfortable in the other room, plus we took turns as bartender. Nice large beer coolers we filled with beer and booze as well as juices soda and ice. More than enough glassware.

Charles was available to answer questions and tell us stories about the history of the house its former guests and the area. He chopped a ton of wood for us to burn and it was good to know he was there if needed.
We hooked up our music through the surround sound system and even with it blasting and us singing along you could barely hear it in the bedrooms if the door to the bar area was closed.
The kitchen was just a bit smaller than I expected but it was fine. Fridge /freezer, 6 top stove, an old fashion open broiler (next time we will do steaks for sure) and one large oven. I only wish the restaurant size open griddle still worked.
The floors are crooked, the place is old, you need to feed the wood stove and you might run into others that live on (care for) the property...oh yeah and you have to put up with the spectacular mountain views instead of TV...All of this made it a fantastic weekend.
If your looking for a no frills getaway place to do your own thing and kick back here you go..THANKS CHARLES
