LA BOULANGERIE

St Sauveur de Cruzieres Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Character self catering gites & large luxury pool in South France.

Our stone cottages are perfect for couples wanting a quiet holiday with a luxury pool and comfortable facilities.

Conveniently situated for Avignon, Nimes, Arles, and Uzes. With the Cevennes and its hills and valleys close by, we are perfectly situated for walkers and cyclists, & there is horse riding in the vicinity.

There are colourful markets in Barjac, Les Vans & St Ambroix all within easy reach. Uzes market is particularly colourful and even has its own web site.

The Ardeche Gorges are 20 minutes drive away and great for canoeing, kayaking or just sightseeing.

A beautiful part of France!

Though our cottages are part of one ancient stone building, they are at different levels and aspects and are all different, having the ambience of an ancient stone hamlet.

There is a lovely courtyard separating our house from the accommodation and even a small spring running by the buildings.

Share our Mediterranean garden and our luxury salt system 13.7 metre pool with its poolside bar.

Pool Area.: The luxury pool is set in a sunny Mediterranean garden of oleander, olive trees and native herbs & flowers. Dimensions are 13.7 metres (about 45 feet) by 5.5 metres and it has Roman Steps descending into the shallow end. There is a gentle gradient from 1.2 metres at the shallow end to a deeper area of about 1.5 metres. The pool has a salt water system which is both kind to the skin and repulsive to wasps & other unwelcome guests. We have installed a heat-pump system which provides warm water in an efficient eco-friendly way.

Our sun loungers are textyline, a special fabric designed for pool use. Our chairs have a similar fabric, especially for your comfort between dips.

Our pool-side bar carries welcome cold beers, chilled rosé from the village cave co-operative, & soft drinks.

Mediterranean Garden.: Our garden is planted with trees, shrubs and flowers native to the environment and climate of Southern France. You will enjoy the scent of lavender, rosemary and other herbs around the garden and the colourful Laurier Rose or Oleander planted near the pool. Jasmine and honeysuckle are everywhere!

In the garden we have staged a picnic area with rustic table beneath the cherry trees. For relaxing moments there is a two seater 'Ballancelle'. For those bursts of activity we have created a boulodrome and even installed lighting if you fancy a lazy evening game.

There is a hardwood table & chairs placed by the small fish pond, you can enjoy aperitifs there!

Places to Visit in The Area: The Ardeche Gorges are a 20 minute drive away. The road that winds along the top of the Gorge from the famous Vallon Pont D'Arc has many stopping places from which to enjoy the spectacular views. At Vallon there are many hire centres where canoes and two seater kayaks can be paddled along the river through the gorges. A truly magnificent experience.

Uzes is a medieval town with many attractions and a maze of alleys and narrow streets to explore. The famous tree lined Place Aux Herbes is host to a colourful and fascinating Provencal market.

Avignon and the Palais des Papes is an easy drive away as are the ancient Nimes & Arles with their Roman remains.

Visit the Pont du Gard to see the remains of the Roman aquaduct, which is a World Heritage Site, or experience one of the spectacles held there in June.

Nearby, the Cevennes is a place of wild beauty, with ancient chapels in stone villages tucked in among the forested hills and valleys. This region is a hikers paradise.

Following a teenage hitch-hiking trip round France some (OK, many!) years ago, I vowed I would return to the Ardèche!

I finally made it...hope you will love it too!

Phil North purchased this cottage in 2007

Well, of course the location is perfect for a visit to the region, and we also enjoy the benefits of the village...the friendly village baker is across the road. There are trails to hike and run from the gate. And we were seduced by the ancient stone buildings, also great views...did I mention the village wine...?

Our home is a little stone hamlet with a fabulous garden...we love it...and so do our guests, many return every year!

SUPERB HOME FROM HOME IN THE ARDECHE

  • 5 of 5
This was my second stay at the Gites and it was more than perfect yet again. The gite was large and light , immaculately clean with starters of tea/coffee, sugar, washing up liquid etc (though it has a dishwasher, and had top quality fixtures and fittings including good knives and cookware, more than enough of everything, rotiserrie oven, grill, etc etc. sofas, TV, sky , when you want to relax. comfortable bed with gorgeous linen. Really is 5* quality. Must mention water for bathing. good showers with constant hot water all the time. heated towel rail and hotel quality towels plus pool towels all included in the price so just turn up and go. Very helpful Phil gave pointers to best shops and walks and everything. Lovely little bar by the crystal clear pool with quality loungers for all. A great place to sit at sunset with a beer from the pool bar fridge. Oh and the beers are at cost in the pool bar, it is done as a courtesy for the worn out from doing nothing. Lovely garden with nooks and crannies to sit and chat or draw or birdwatch. Partner spent a fair amount of time be-goggled and left with an impressive score including three toed eagle, whatever that is!. All in all if you want a quality gite with character and civilised self catering break then do try this. It is quiet, lovely, interesting, great walks and car touring, and a place to wind down completely, without being in mud hut or tent. Car rental is reasonable if prebooked, flights to Nimes rock bottom, and shopping at markets (there are plenty to sample) make for a decent dip into french life. Will be back again and again like the others who return again and again. Negatives, France seemed to be shut half the afternoon but thats a cultural difference and not their fault. Wasnt a problem, just wanted to see everything! Really liked restaurant called Buzz who did breast of duck with delicious salad. Local wine notable too..

A PERFECT STAY

  • 5 of 5
We have just returned from a 10-day stay at Le Mas De La Source and are now suffering from a severe bout of withdrawal! We stayed in one of the five gîtes, La Boulangerie, which we found to be a perfect base for us.

We were within easy reach of some great walking and canoeing on the Ardèche and we also discovered plenty of good restaurants in nearby Barjac when we wanted lazier days filled with long leisurely lunches.

We really appreciated having our own terrace and barbecue that we made the most of, and the gîte provided all the comfort and space we needed while on holiday. As an added bonus we were also able to keep up with Wimbledon and, alas for me, Euro2012, later during the evenings on the BBC TV channel.

I can safely say we also made the most of the swimming pool which was a good size to be able to have a decent swim and was lovely to come back to after a day’s walking. The draw of the 'honesty' poolside bar serving beer, wine and soft drinks provided an excellent enticement to do a few lengths before rehydrating!

Phil was a great host and achieved that balance of being on-hand without being intrusive. He provided some great ideas for days out/walking routes that we really appreciated.

Well done Phil (and Tina who was away when we were staying) – we hope to return!

Perfect for couples looking for a tranquil stay who want to make the most of the sports activities on offer in the region.

LA BOULANGERIE COTTAGE - JUNE 2009

  • 5 of 5
Our recent holiday to France was our first visit to the Ardeche region. Staying in the delightfully named "La Boulangerie" cottage, our stay was a fantastic experience of the "real France" having only visited Paris in the past.

La Boulangerie is one of 5 holiday cottages, each with its own unique style, run by the ever hospitable Tina and Phil. The accomodation is first class with all the fittings and amenities you will ever need, including your own personal bbq!

Siutated opposite the local boulangerie, ideal for breakfast croissants, the cottage complex has its own private pool and bar. Six o'clock drinks with Tina and Phil, overlooking the village church, became "traditional" during our stay, having spent the day, walking, canoeing and horse riding in the stunning Ardeche countryside.

The holiday was very different to what we have done before (usual beach/pool holidays in the Med) and canoeing through gorges with 1,000 feet cliffs at each side and horse riding across mile upon mile of stunning scenery were certainly "firsts" for us and we are determined they won't be our last.

The accomodation, the hospitality and the overall holiday experience are brilliant value for money. We certainly wish Tina and Phil our best wishes for their new venture and we will certainly be back for many more visits. We would highly recommend the accommodation and the Ardeche region to others, thinking of visiting "traditional France."

Enjoy the warmth and sunshine of Southern France, relax by our large pool and canoe or kayak the famous Gorges de l'Ardeche. Stay in one of our comfortable, character gites and you are well placed to enjoy a very special holiday. The Gorges de l'Ardeche are an easy 30 minute drive, Avignon and the Palais des Papes is nearby. The area enjoys many other interesting attractions and colourful markets.

Our village, Saint-Sauveur-de-Cruzieres has many old stone buildings and a small river flowing through its heart. Across the road from our Mas and gites is the boulangerie and we are a few steps from two bar - restaurants. We overlook the countryside with its vineyards and olive groves and dramatic hills in the near distance. Our climate is Mediterranean and we enjoy plenty of sunshine.

Our stone buildings resemble an old hamlet and are centred round its courtyards and a small spring that flows through the property, our colourful garden has lavender, olives, thyme, rosemary and the spectacular Oleander.

It would take many visits to see all the local attractions. There are grottos and caves to explore, plenty of castles and medieval villages and towns with their colourful markets to choose from.

The area is very popular with walkers & cyclists.

The Cevennes are a short drive away. Here, serious hikers can face challenging trails through the rugged and dramatic scenery.

The rivers Ardeche, Ceze, and Chassezac all have gorges to visit, swim or canoe through.

Other Activities: Canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, sightseeing, visiting markets & just relaxing!
