Greve Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Three charming holiday apartments in an authentic 12th C. Castle

Three charming apartments in an authentic castle dating back to 12th C. in the typical green hills of Chianti Classico. The castle has undergone various restorations over the centuries which have highlighted its architectural features giving it a particular charm and giving its structure an aura of olden times. The castle itself is very picturesque, built in stone in a square hill overlooking Greve in Chianti. It has a peaceful and a dominating position in front of Montefioralle Castle. From the garden and the windows you have a magnificent, panoramic view of rolling Chianti hills, olive groves and vineyards. The apartments have use of a large lovely private garden (450 m²). The Colognole Castle is ideally located for short day trips to all of the sights of Tuscany. Florence is an hour away by car or reliable, comfortable bus service, the recommended way to visit the great city. Siena is about 1 hour and half by car.

An Awesome Vacation from Our Vacation

  • 5 of 5
Our 9 day stay in the Quaratesi apartment was the highlight of our 28 day trip to Italy. After 11 hectic days of Rome, Volterra, Cingue Terre and Florence, the stay at Castello di Colognole was a welcome respite before Venice and Milan. We used the apartment as a home base to visit Siena, Florence, local towns and wineries. Rosita and Rita were wonderful hosts. They were very informative and helpful.

The apartment had loads of space including a good kitchen and dinning room. This allowed us to shop locally and prepare some of our own meals. Rita also allowed us access to her large vegetable garden. We had Rita cook dinner one night served out on the terrace. Fantastic!

We plan to come back again.

Thank you, Rita and Rosita, for a memorable stay.

Hidden gem of Tuscany!

  • 5 of 5
Our one week stay in Tuscany, sandwiched between bustling Rome and active Venice, was a wonderful respite for us. Our friends who were experiencing Italy for the first time found Castello di Colognole to be so charming and historical…and for us, it was a reminder of the great time we had in 2001 when we came over right after 9/11 with my whole family of Italian descent and stayed in the nearby town of Panzano! As so many others have stated, it all began with a warm welcome from Rosita whom I felt I already knew after our many email conversations prior to our trip. We had discussed having her sister, Rita, give us a cooking lesson during the week, so we did our own grocery shopping for the first 2 breakfast and dinner meals and then the next night went up to Rita's place where she showed us how to make fried sage and squash blossoms, chicken stuffed with lemons and pork loin garnished with fresh sage and rosemary…and then continued with each couple making a different filling for the raviolis…! It was all so good that we copied Rita's pork and potatoes recipes 2 night's later for my husband's birthday dinner…

The authentic stone and decor of the Bacco apartment made for a very comfortable stay…and going out in the garden in the later afternoon after visiting Florence, Siena, Greve, and San Gimignano while we had afternoon tea (followed by great red wines the guys found in the local shops in Greve) made for a relaxing end of the day in a wonderfully comfortable setting. We got many beautiful shots of the sun setting over the grapevines and olive trees in the valley below…and even got to do some hiking locally in the mornings that followed. All in all a wonderful way to experience the Chianti region ofTuscany…grazie, Rosita and Rosa, for everything!

We occupied a lovely apartment within the castle with wonderful views. well organised country kitchen, modern two full baths and spacious rooms and garden. we felt like we are in a fairytale place. the owners are so welcoming and courteous that we wished to have been able to stay more but we promissed ourselves to come again to this very special place

Enchanting Castle in Tuscany! Absolutely stunning and memorable!

  • 5 of 5
- We stayed in the Del Caccia apartment on our honeymoon trip through Italy visiting 5 cities. The Castello di Colognole was without a doubt our favorite location, it provided a relaxing calmness needed after seeing cities with hustle and bustle such as Rome or Venice. We were treated like family from the moment we drove up to the gates of this magical castle on the hill. Rita and Rosita are two sisters who tend to guests at the castle and also live on site.
- Rita greated us at the gate and got us settled into our apartment which was enchanting. Painted frescos on the living room extended from the old chapel into our apartment. Rosita met us that evening when she arrived home and provided a fantastic history of the castle which was so interesting. We knew we had found a real gem in an old Tuscan castle with fantastic hosts. We could not ask for more! We also got to meet two very sweet dogs in Bacco and Gemma
-On our arrival night we had prearranged based on other Trip Advisors reviews, to have Rita cook a traditional tuscan meal for us. FANTASTIC, Rita is an amazing cook, she brought over and served in our apartment a 5 course meal with bruschetta, homemade lasagna which was the best I’ve ever had, chicken cacciatore, salad made from her garden, and a delicious tiramsu. We also arranged for breakfast each morning which was served over looking the gardens with amazing views. On our last night there we had a cooking class with Rita which was lots of fun, we made homemade pasta, ravioli with a walnut gorgonzola sauce, a tuscan chicken dish, and tiramasu. Yum!
-The weather was perfect in April! We toured the nearby fortified town of Monteforialle and ate at a recommendation at La Castellana which was a terrific and a nice recommendation. We did a tour and tasting at the Castello de Verranzanno which I would highly recommend!! We absolutely loved the food and wine from this region! The property is amazing and you can feel the history; the fortified castle walls, castle doors, and lookout tower located on the property. The sisters that run it are amazing hosts. What more could you ask for, eating great food, drinking wine in a 9th century castle in the Chianti wine region. We will definitely be returning to this magnificent location as soon as we possibly can. Rita & Rosita, We thank you so much for such a warm, welcoming, and truly memorable experience! - Joe (Guiseppe) & Kristen

A wonderful retreat overlooking the hills of Greve

  • 5 of 5
We stayed 5 nights at Castello Di Colognole and loved every minute of our time there! As we drove up the very steep gravelly road to the castle, we weren't sure that we were going in the right direction, but we kept our sights on the castle at the top of the hill in the distance. The directions that Rosita Ricci sent to us were very helpful. As we arrived at the front gate, Rosita came out to greet us and direct us to the Bacco apartment. There were four of us (two couples), and we were quite surprised at how spacious the apartment was. The kitchen was modern and the bathrooms were updated, but the rest of the apartment was rustic, staying true to its origins and decorated with antiques in a very Tuscan style. It was the perfect atmosphere.

Since it was a little cool when we arrived, Rosita started a roaring fire in the fireplace for us, and her sister, Rita, was preparing a typical Tuscan dinner for us, which was delicious. There were fresh roses on the table for us, and we sat down to Rita's wonderful dinner in front of the fire. What a fantastic welcome!

We spent the days visiting some of the hill towns in the area - Radda, Siena, San Gimiagnano, and of course, Greve, where the castle was situated. There was a very convenient grocery store in Greve, which we frequented often.

Rosita spoke English very well, so she was very helpful. Both Rita and Rosita were very friendly, and their 3 dogs, Gemma, Cuba and Bacco, were, too. The only glitch we had was when we ran both the dishwasher and the washing machine at the same time, which caused the electricity to go off. Rita came to our rescue, though, and all was well.

We would recommend Castello Di Colognole to anyone who wants to enjoy the rustic charms of staying in a 12th century castle and to enjoy the beautiful views of the countryside of Chianti. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and hope to go back again some day.

Florence is an hour away by car or reliable, comfortable bus service, the recommended way to visit that great city. Siena is about 1.30 h away by car to the south as is San Gimignano with its dramatic towers to the west. Colognole is perfectly located for day trips to Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo, Volterra, Perugia, Assisi and other Tuscan sites. There are many other lesser-know but equally charming Tuscan hill towns close by like Radda in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti , Castellina in Chianti, Volpaia.
