Greve Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Three charming holiday apartments in an authentic 12th C. Castle

Three charming apartments in an authentic castle dating back to 12th C. in the typical green hills of Chianti Classico. The castle has undergone various restorations over the centuries which have highlighted its architectural features giving it a particular charm and giving its structure an aura of olden times. The castle itself is very picturesque, built in stone in a square hill overlooking Greve in Chianti. It has a peaceful and a dominating position in front of Montefioralle Castle. From the garden and the windows you have a magnificent, panoramic view of rolling Chianti hills, olive groves and vineyards. The apartments have use of a large lovely private garden (450 m²). The Colognole Castle is ideally located for short day trips to all of the sights of Tuscany. Florence is an hour away by car or reliable, comfortable bus service, the recommended way to visit the great city. Siena is about 1 hour and half by car.

  • 5 of 5
we are a family of seven including three children 8 to 17 years old.
we were totally impressed by the place, a castle from the middle ages situated on a high spot overlooking the valley of GREVE. We occupied a lovely apartment within the castle with wonderful views. well organised country kitchen, modern two full baths and spacious rooms and garden. we felt like we are in a fairytale place. the owners are so welcoming and courteous that we wished to have been able to stay more but we promissed ourselves to come again to this very special place

Enchanting Castle in Tuscany! Absolutely stunning and memorable!

  • 5 of 5
- We stayed in the Del Caccia apartment on our honeymoon trip through Italy visiting 5 cities. The Castello di Colognole was without a doubt our favorite location, it provided a relaxing calmness needed after seeing cities with hustle and bustle such as Rome or Venice. We were treated like family from the moment we drove up to the gates of this magical castle on the hill. Rita and Rosita are two sisters who tend to guests at the castle and also live on site.
- Rita greated us at the gate and got us settled into our apartment which was enchanting. Painted frescos on the living room extended from the old chapel into our apartment. Rosita met us that evening when she arrived home and provided a fantastic history of the castle which was so interesting. We knew we had found a real gem in an old Tuscan castle with fantastic hosts. We could not ask for more! We also got to meet two very sweet dogs in Bacco and Gemma
-On our arrival night we had prearranged based on other Trip Advisors reviews, to have Rita cook a traditional tuscan meal for us. FANTASTIC, Rita is an amazing cook, she brought over and served in our apartment a 5 course meal with bruschetta, homemade lasagna which was the best I’ve ever had, chicken cacciatore, salad made from her garden, and a delicious tiramsu. We also arranged for breakfast each morning which was served over looking the gardens with amazing views. On our last night there we had a cooking class with Rita which was lots of fun, we made homemade pasta, ravioli with a walnut gorgonzola sauce, a tuscan chicken dish, and tiramasu. Yum!
-The weather was perfect in April! We toured the nearby fortified town of Monteforialle and ate at a recommendation at La Castellana which was a terrific and a nice recommendation. We did a tour and tasting at the Castello de Verranzanno which I would highly recommend!! We absolutely loved the food and wine from this region! The property is amazing and you can feel the history; the fortified castle walls, castle doors, and lookout tower located on the property. The sisters that run it are amazing hosts. What more could you ask for, eating great food, drinking wine in a 9th century castle in the Chianti wine region. We will definitely be returning to this magnificent location as soon as we possibly can. Rita & Rosita, We thank you so much for such a warm, welcoming, and truly memorable experience! - Joe (Guiseppe) & Kristen

The Castel is beautiful, rooms are comfortable and clean, the kitchen was sufficiently equipment and the garden is absolutely lovely.

A wonderful retreat overlooking the hills of Greve

  • 5 of 5
We stayed 5 nights at Castello Di Colognole and loved every minute of our time there! As we drove up the very steep gravelly road to the castle, we weren't sure that we were going in the right direction, but we kept our sights on the castle at the top of the hill in the distance. The directions that Rosita Ricci sent to us were very helpful. As we arrived at the front gate, Rosita came out to greet us and direct us to the Bacco apartment. There were four of us (two couples), and we were quite surprised at how spacious the apartment was. The kitchen was modern and the bathrooms were updated, but the rest of the apartment was rustic, staying true to its origins and decorated with antiques in a very Tuscan style. It was the perfect atmosphere.

Since it was a little cool when we arrived, Rosita started a roaring fire in the fireplace for us, and her sister, Rita, was preparing a typical Tuscan dinner for us, which was delicious. There were fresh roses on the table for us, and we sat down to Rita's wonderful dinner in front of the fire. What a fantastic welcome!

We spent the days visiting some of the hill towns in the area - Radda, Siena, San Gimiagnano, and of course, Greve, where the castle was situated. There was a very convenient grocery store in Greve, which we frequented often.

Rosita spoke English very well, so she was very helpful. Both Rita and Rosita were very friendly, and their 3 dogs, Gemma, Cuba and Bacco, were, too. The only glitch we had was when we ran both the dishwasher and the washing machine at the same time, which caused the electricity to go off. Rita came to our rescue, though, and all was well.

We would recommend Castello Di Colognole to anyone who wants to enjoy the rustic charms of staying in a 12th century castle and to enjoy the beautiful views of the countryside of Chianti. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and hope to go back again some day.

Simply outstanding accomodations, breathtaking views, amazing hospitality

  • 5 of 5
My wife, two daughters and I booked the Bacco apartment as part of our visit to France and Italy this past spring. Our trip was quite busy starting in Northern France, some time in Southern France and then on to Italy for the final leg of our journey. We only had a couple of nights at the Castello but it was the best 2 nights of our trip. I dont know where to start. Every aspect of our stay was specatacular right from when Rosita greeted us at the Catello gate when we first arrived to when we said "ciao" to continue our journey. I had made arrangements for Rita to prepare dinner for us shortly after we arrived the first night. This was a total surprise for my wife and kids! I had read about a roast chicken dinner in one of the reviews so requested this and it was amazing. Rita prepared everything fresh including the salad right from her garden, the fresh pasta for our 2nd course and the roast chicken/potatoes which did not disappoint. This along with a bottle of their own wine served with dinner next to a 12th century fireplace was incredible. The Bacco apartment was very spacious for the four of us, everything was spotless clean and the ammenities worked very well especially the wireless internet much to the pleasure of my 2 daughters (17 and 20). Rosita and Rita are two amazing ladies and we felt like part of their family right from the start. I cant say enough about this place and we hope to return to the Toscana area someday and Castello Di Colognole will be our primary destination for a much longer period of time. It is located right in the heart of the Chianti wine/olive orchard area and we visited a few of the local vineyards while we were there. Also the town to Greve is just down the hill and its town square has many, many quaint shops and restaurants to enjoy which we did. If you want to really kick back, enjoy the sights and countryside of Tuscany and meet some truly remarkable people then this is the place for you.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests,

it has been such a great pleasure for us to meeting people like you. Since the first sight, it seemed that we already know each other and that we met again after a long time. You stayed at the Colognole Castle only two nights but everytime we had the opportunity to spend time with you, it was always lovely. Thanks for having chosen our property for your vacation in Tuscany. We hope to meeting you again. All the best to all of you.

Truly wonderful!

  • 5 of 5
Our too short 1-week stay generated a lifetime of memories, from the graciousness of the hosts, to the authenticity of the apartments, to views from gardens, to the secluded walks around the vineyards, to the convenient access to all that Tuscany has to offer -- I simply can't imagine a more wonderful trip. And particular thanks to Rosita and Rita; your hospitality and help will stay with us forever.

This trip encompassed my wife's family extended family - mother, siblings, and nieces and nephews (ranging in ages from 15 to 8). We rented three apartments. Each met Rosita's and Rita's goal of maintaining the historical authenticity of the castle while offering modern amenities.

Yes, the descriptions and photos posted here are accurate but cannot possibly capture the breathtaking beauty (in its entirety) surrounding one as take in the grounds. Sitting out in the garden in the evening, overlooking the vineyards across to Montefioralle, while hearing the river running below - it is beyond description.

The location is just wonderful. The castle itself is quite secluded, standing apart from the main village and offering quiet walks around the vineyards. Yet, Greve (see below) is just 5 minutes away and is location that provides convenient access to Florence in the north, Siena in the South, and Volterra (and other hilltop villages) to the West. In short, a perfect location to serve as a base from which to explore Chianti, in particular, and Tuscany, in general.

Greve is an understated village just 5 minutes from the castle. It offers all the amenities travellers could want - lovely restaurants, shops, cafes, a full service market. But since it is not a destination spot per se, its not overrun with folks and, thus, a lovely spot to go for a quite espresso in the morning or meal for those nights when one doesn't want to travel far. Complete with a lovely piazza 5 minutes from the castle, grocery stores, cafes, restaurants, and so much more--everything you could possibly need.

I, too, would also recommend having a delicious & authentic dinner prepared by Rosita's sister, Rita, who uses fresh ingredients from her garden. (If we hadn't been travelling with family, we would have opted for a cooking class for just us and the kids with Rita. For those who like to cook, please try get a glimpse of Rita's kitchen. It truly reflects her passion and joy of working with food!)

Rita and Rosita - thank you both so much. We hope to see you again!

Colognole Castle is ideally located for short day trips to all of the sights of Tuscany. Florence is an hour away by car or reliable, comfortable bus service, the recommended way to visit that great city. Siena is about 1.30 h away by car to the south as is San Gimignano with its dramatic towers to the west. Colognole is perfectly located for day trips to Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo, Volterra, Perugia, Assisi and other Tuscan sites. There are many other lesser-know but equally charming Tuscan hill towns close by like Radda in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti , Castellina in Chianti, Volpaia.
