Excellent experience

Review Submitted: December 29, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
My family of six stayed here for a week in July. This place was definitely a highlight for my four teenage daughters. They spent many of the days sitting under the huge tree in the yard, looking over the vineyards and olive groves, reading, painting and dreaming. My oldest daughter took a cooking lesson - working with Rita to prepare our dinner became a favorite memory for her. Rosita made sure we had everything we needed and was a great host. We were wondering what it would be like staying there in July, but the heat was rarely an issue. During the day, we spent time in the shaded yard, and the temperature cooled down in the evening. Summer is the only time we could have made this trip - if we were coming back, we would stay again, whatever the season. We made several great day trips (Florence, Pisa/Lucca/VolterraSan Gimignano) from here. Highly recommend this place!

A special place!

Review Submitted: August 25, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
We stayed at Castello Di Colognole during Aug 2011 for a week and the Quarteresi apartment was simply beautiful! Homely, rustic, clean, unique...perfect for us! We were a travelling group of 4 persons and the apartment offered more space than we actually needed. Kitchen was well equipped so we can make our own meals and snacks if we wanted but Rita's cooking was too good to miss out on and we ate at the Castle almost every night. Rita's cooking is sensational and every meal was a delight. We had some very keen foodies in our group and the food was definately a highlight. We are on the hunt for some of the ingrediants back home so we can try and replicate some of the recipes! Rosita made sure we had everything we needed - always helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The owners ahve 3 dogs who are absolutely a joy to be around and we spent many hours playing with them. Rita and Rosita's hospitality definately made the trip special and it wouldn't have been the same if we had chosen to stay in a hotel. We are already planning a return trip next year, and can't wait to get back there. Thank you Rita and Rosita for everything.

Chianti Classic - a place as great as the wine

Review Submitted: May 12, 2011 Date of Stay: May 2011
Our family - mother, 2 daughters, son and wife - thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Rosita and Rita in their historic, family castle. Having only a few days to explore Tuscany, we chose Greve because we wanted a base in the country, but not too remote or too far from Florence. It worked out very well for us; we took the bus from the center of Greve into Florence, and used our car to explore other towns like Siena. We could shop in town for what we needed and be back at the Castle in 10 minutes. We opted to have Rita prepare breakfast and two dinners - one with a fantastic cooking lesson. The food was wonderful, and the two sisters could not have been more helpful and accomodating. The property itself dates from over 1000 years ago, and has been carefully developed into a few apartments for guests, in addition to the family living quarters. The gardens surrounding the castle are beautiful - especially the roses, which were in full bloom during our visit. And, the vistas across the Tuscan landscape are mesmerizing. We had our final breakfast in the garden, overlooking the vineyards and olive groves. Our apartment, Quaretesi, was very spacious and well-equipped. Highly recommend Castello di Colognole to anyone interested in a very quiet, country setting with wonderful hosts and a small number of interesting guests.

Wonderful Place!

Review Submitted: March 26, 2011 Date of Stay: March 2011
Can't say enough great things about the Castello! Great location, great views and incredible hosts. The apartments are very spacious and comfortable. The grounds/gardens are stunning.

Rosita is very helpful, knowledgeable and great to work with.

The castello is atop a hill overlooking Greve. The people of Greve are very kind. All major Tuscan attractions are under an hour's drive (pisa is 1.5 hour).

Our family of 4 (2 teenagers) will return!

The Castello offers authentic Tuscan meals cooked by Rita (one of the owners). This is not to be missed! The dinners were some of the best meals we've ever had!

Thanks again Rosita and Rita - we miss you both.

Exceeded expectations

Review Submitted: February 7, 2011 Date of Stay: January 2011
Our family of four enjoyed 3 nights at Rosita's and Rita's Quaratesi Apartment at their 12th Century Castle. The apartment, the Castello and the grounds exceeded our expectations. It was the ultimate Tuscan experience!

The Castello is a very well restored and maintained castle complete with castle walls, sentry post, original courtyard with a well, tower and it's own beautiful chapel decorated with mosaics, tiles and cherub sculptures. Quite wonderful.

We were at liberty to wander around its sprawling gardens overlooking the Tuscan landscape, the vineyards and we discovered a forest at the end of the road near the castle.

Each morning when we threw open the window shutters, we were treated to a view of Tuscany's hill scape. It was just like looking at a landscape painting in a Renaissance masterpiece.

The apartment was decorated charmingly. It felt like home away from home and it was ideal for us with our two older teenagers. There were 3 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with a spacious dining area and well equipped kitchen which looks onto an internal courtyard, and a very spacious large sitting area in the loft. The apartment is over two levels and the stairs are narrow and steep - it is an 12C castle afterall. But this was not a problem at all.

Rita is a wonderful cook and we enjoyed 2 of her home cooked meals. They were so generously sized there was more than enough for another day. My children declared this was their best meal in Europe. This was our first experience of freshly cooked artichokes. Rita served them lightly battered and fried and cooked a risotto as well. We recommend this yummy dish.

We all felt so at home that we extended our stay for an extra night. Our hosts could not have been kinder.

We plan to stay here again in summer.
