Chianti Classic - a place as great as the wine

Our family - mother, 2 daughters, son and wife - thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Rosita and Rita in their historic, family castle. Having only a few days to explore Tuscany, we chose Greve because we wanted a base in the country, but not too remote or too far from Florence. It worked out very well for us; we took the bus from the center of Greve into Florence, and used our car to explore other towns like Siena. We could shop in town for what we needed and be back at the Castle in 10 minutes. We opted to have Rita prepare breakfast and two dinners - one with a fantastic cooking lesson. The food was wonderful, and the two sisters could not have been more helpful and accomodating. The property itself dates from over 1000 years ago, and has been carefully developed into a few apartments for guests, in addition to the family living quarters. The gardens surrounding the castle are beautiful - especially the roses, which were in full bloom during our visit. And, the vistas across the Tuscan landscape are mesmerizing. We had our final breakfast in the garden, overlooking the vineyards and olive groves. Our apartment, Quaretesi, was very spacious and well-equipped. Highly recommend Castello di Colognole to anyone interested in a very quiet, country setting with wonderful hosts and a small number of interesting guests.
