Photos and Description of the New Orleans vacation house rental
Whole house sleeps 5-7 or Guest Suite w separate Bathroom.

This historic Treme house was built for Free Woman of Color, Louise Vitry. The house was subject of a Louisiana Supreme Court Decision in which Louise Vitry Was allowed to keep her house and her 7 slaves one year prior to Civil War.

If you truly want to experience history and the whole funky New Orleans vibe, you'd be hard pressed to do better that this. The house has been in films, HBO's Treme, has been photographed by world renown photographers for Rolling Stone and Details magazine and is due to be in an upcoming book on Creole New Orleans.

It was built during New Orleans' golden age and is an architectural gem that features 14 foot ceilings, original plaster moldings, mantles, and frescoes, solid mahogany staircase, 2 cast iron balconies, and marbelized base boards.

House is located blocks from the French Quarter, is 1 mile exactly from City Park and Fairgrounds for Jazz and Voodoo Fest.

Balcony and Patio Garden: Immerse yourself in New Orleans history and culture. Close enough to the Mississippi to hear the horns on the river boats or view the fireworks on the river from the side and front balconies. House has an incredible night time view of skyline and spire of St. Louis Cathedral.

This historic house was built for Free Woman of Color, Louise Vitry and her French consort, Archille Courcelle and their 4 children from land bought from the Baroness de Pontalba. The house was subject of an 1858 Louisiana Supreme Court Decision in which Louise Vitry was allowed to keep her house and her 7 slaves prior to Civil War. Original complex extended to the next block (St. Philip Street) with green house, wine cellar, out door kitchen, stables, 4 water cisterns, and servants wing. All that, sadly, is gone with the wind.

If you're looking to experience 'True New Orleans', you'd be hard pressed to better than this old mansion situated in the Historic Treme.

Upstairs guest bedroom includes a large sitting room (the blue room in the photos). The sitting room connects to both side and front balcones that catches the breeze with incredible views of New Orleans downtown skyline and the back of the Armstrong Park Sign, especially at night. Perfect for evening cocktails. Guest living room suite includes a single sleeper sofa bed and a couple air-mattresses.

Not recommended for children.

Downstairs, make yourself at home in a private, large, lush tropical garden with spanish moss draped trees, tinkling fish filled fountains, plenty of chairs, outdoor speakers with radio or iPod connector, a barbecue grill, and night lighting. You have your own, private flower filled New Orleans oasis. It is a great place to un-wind and slow down to 'New Orleans time'. You'll probably find yourself spending most of your time out in the patio.

CHECK IN time after 1:00 pm. CHECK OUT time before 1:00 P.M. CST.

Will be happy to answer enquiries via email as to availability for full house.

Distinctive property for a special NOLA experience

4 of 5
Submitted: March 17, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
If you're looking for something with all the convenience and amenities of a hotel . . . then why are you looking on HomeAway? If you're looking for something out of the ordinary in New Orleans, read on.

This is a very interesting and special property, with an interesting history that you can feel as you walk in. The only time I have ever stayed in something similar was my grandparents' home in India. The house is described as "elegantly decayed," and you can feel the age and history in it. It's also a house that was built before such things as electricity, indoor plumbing, and central heat, so a lot of that stuff has been retrofitted in, giving a kind of rough around the edges look. I expect some of the roughness may be smoothed out as Will gets further into his renovations.

The location is probably the only real downside - the neighborhood is a little iffy at night and you definitely know that you're in a lower income area. The French Quarter and Louis Armstrong Park are a very manageable walk away, and it's not that expensive a cab ride back. We had no problem finding street parking right near the house. The house was also a little chilly in mid-March - no one's fault at all, but bear this in mind if you're planning a trip. (The space heaters did warm up the rooms nicely, but I always felt like we were either raising or lowering them to try and get the Goldilocks "just right" temperature.)

Will is an attentive and charming host, texting every day to make sure things are OK and to suggest things to do.

I would strongly recommend this property for a special NOLA experience. We had a fun time staying here, and it definitely made the trip more memorable than staying in a chain hotel would have.

Great NOLA experience

4 of 5
Submitted: January 7, 2013 Stayed: December 2012
I stayed here over New Year's Eve weekend with 6 other friends and we had a great time! If you're looking for plush luxury this isn't for you, but if you want a unique NOLA experience in a non-touristy neighborhood this is perfect. We slept one couple in each of the bedrooms and my other 3 friends comfortably fit on the pullout, cot, and air mattress in the large 3rd bedroom.

We cooked breakfast most mornings and enjoyed hanging out together in the dining room. It was cold while we were there so we didn't spend much time downstairs, however the living room is a great space in warmer months. The showers had nice water pressure, although we of course had to spread out the showers to get hot water for 7 people but that's to be expected anywhere.

A bunch of white people walking through the neighborhood definitely identified us as tourist and we were advised not to walk at night. However, I never felt unsafe and people were friendly to us. We walked to the French Quarter area every day and to the trolley stop; we only took a cab at night.

Will was very friendly, communicative, and helpful prior to and during our stay. I would recommend this house for friends looking to experience NOLA neighborhoods outside of the touristy areas.

Thank You Will

Myself and five boyhood friends had the pleasure of staying at 2003 Domaine, on a football trip to see our Saints and cheer Geaux Tigers.

The house house provided us with spacious rooms, three bathrooms, proximity to downtown, and an accommodating host in Will Germaine.

But this is less of a house and more of an experience or museum. At every turn there is art in one form or another, whether it is the on the wall, in the air (monark butterflies), in the ground (flowers and herbs), in the book shelves or the walls and floors themselves. My pal Robert commented at one point that I can't believe that let people stay here given the many treasures, both personal and valuable.

Will G on more than one occasion provided us with transportation, and offers of tours of his beloved city.

Will thank you for the stay, Keith, Patrick, Shannon, Bob, John and Marcus
Owner's Response: Glad you crazy Canadians had a great time!

Great Place to Stay!

We had a great visit to New Orleans - this house such a unique place to stay, it really felt like we were experiencing more of the Creole culture even when at home! So much better than staying in a hotel, this house has a gorgeous garden balconies where you can sit and enjoy the weather. We were 4 people and there was more than enough room for all of us - you can't tell it from the outside, but this house is really spacious! The owners were also one of the perks of the house - they were very helpful throughout our stay and are doing a fantastic job in preserving and continually improving this beautiful, historic place!
Owner's Response: We had a really nice time meeting you and your friends from around the world! Really an interesting group of people.

Hope to see you next time you're back in town.

50th Birthday Celebration!

6 people, one beautiful home, and 2 wonderful hosts! What more can be said? The Decay house was the perfect touch of history to enhance our stay. As each person arrived, we toured the house and found something different every time nestled among the treasures. Will and Mauricio were very attentive to anything we may have needed. We loved that we were just minutes from the Quarter and that we were able to be submerged in the local culture! Live music in Armstrong park and in the bars, food everywhere (but I will recommend Camellias and Willie Mays and.....and....!) It was the first trip to Nola for 3 of us and we are all looking forward to returning for another memorable experience! And Will, Louise was not a bother! Just a very polite kitten to hang out in the beautiful garden with! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!
Owner's Response: Thanks for your stay. I could tell that you were very relaxed within minutes of arriving and you seemed to get more comfortable, relaxed the longer you were here!
