|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
This recently renovated 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home is designed for a quiet, relaxing vacation in beautiful Santa Barbara. The large yard is great for barbecuing and catching some fun in the sun.
The home boasts a variety of entertaining options including; your very own back yard Olympic sized Sand Volley ball/badminton court, private outdoor hot tub, multiple patio dining areas, ping pong table, separate billiards and media room, separate BBQ prep kitchen and much more.
Convenient central location: Centrally located in a quiet neighborhood, a roughly 5-10 minute drive to both Santa Barbara and Goleta beaches and downtown State Street. Near multiple golf courses, mountain and beach hiking, restaurants and shopping. Accessible to major bicycling and jogging routes. The location is just out of the typical coastal fog-line which makes for great outdoor fun and better weather than most of the SB area.
We are are family friendly rental. Since this house is located in a quiet neighborhood it is not a vacation rental for those looking for a 'party' house. We are also not permitted to host wedding showers, family reunions, weddings, etc.
Overall, we had a nice time staying here. There were certainly a lot of activities to keep us entertained at the house. As others have reported the various outdoor/indoor entertainment stuff could use some serious updating. The pool table was uneven, the balls were mostly flat, things were just falling apart. The house had enough beds and bathrooms for our group. The kitchen was stocked with just about everything we needed to make our meals each night. It worked for us.
A few negatives, there was dog (animal) hair all over the house. I'd say the common areas could use a better cleaning between stays, we saw cobwebs inside the house even. The dishwasher didn't work during our stay. The bathtub in the master bath wouldn't stop running water so a plumber was sent over to look into it. The manager was very responsive in getting someone out to fix the water issue (thank you!). The gardner didn't put out the trash cans for the weekly pickup as we were told he would so by the time we left the garbage was overflowing outside. Outside of the dog hair and general cleanliness of the house these are all minor things, however, when you're on vacation you don't want to get stuck hand washing every dish you use!
GOOD SIZE HOUSE, GOOD LOCATION! COULD JUST USE A LITTLE HELP IN THE CLEANING DEPT!
The house is great, exactly as listed. The highlight is definitely the outside area which is huge and well-appointed. There's also a basketball hoop in the driveway that we made good use of. Perfect place to go with kids or a group of friends who like to be outside and/or play sports.
Great property. Very comfortable. Very good value. The superb features are the games "casita", with pool table (in need of repair--but workable), cable TV, etc, and the wonderful outdoor areas (including hot tub, volleyball court, basketball area, barbeque, etc). Just wonderful. I know it is costly, but it would be great if some of the sports equipment could be replaced (e.g. broken badminton rackets, etc) and we couldn't find the pump to pump up the balls. Thanks for sharing your wonderful property with us!
Santa Barbara is our hometown, and we spent a week here with our children and grandchildren. The backyard and separate recreation room were so well stocked with adult and children's toys that it was hard to leave and enjoy the beautiful city and beaches of Santa Barbara. The location was somewhat secluded while being within minutes of the beaches shopping and town. We only used the main house for sleeping and cooking, so we didn't feel crowded with 6 adults and 5 children.
Nikole has furnished this home with far more than is found in the usual rental. The beds were comfortable. The outdoor shower has hot and cold water--great for the beach. We were able to get wifi in the house as well as the rec room, though it was slow. The kitchen had everything you would possible need. The two patio tables seated our entire family and we grilled and ate out every night.
It was abnormally hot during part of our stay (Santa Barbara rarely needs air conditioning). It would have been nice for the third bedroom to have a window unit too. Otherwise open windows are fine for cross-ventilation.
This is a comfortable older home that has been thoughtfully furnished and remodeled. It's convenient to UCSB, Santa Barbara and the wineries of the Santa Ynez Valley. Our family enjoyed it so much that we hope to return next year.
We're just winding down our Spring Break vacation in Nikole's Santa Barbara bungalow. Wow, for the price of a very basic hotel room, we feel as if we've hit the jackpot here! Definitely coming back.
We were eager to find a location that could comfortably accommodate our family of 4 (2 adults, 1 child, 1 dog). Seriously, this place is a dream. Our son and dog have worn "permaGRINs" since the moment we opened the front door.
Some highlights of our stay:
- sand volleyball court: OMG, such a treat!
- ping pong table: one outdoors, and another inside the adjacent game room — we've had a family tourney going all week!
- hot tub: perfectly situated off the master bedroom
- outdoor shower: we used it after returning from the beach each day — now I want to install one at home!
- chicken coop: seriously folks, FRESH eggs for breakfast every morning!
- quiet: location is in close proximity to stores and downtown amenities, but far enough away to maintain solitude.
- firepit: we roasted marshmallows and sang a few songs around the fire last night. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed running throughout this area of the property, which is located furthest away from the home.
- basketball hoop: located just a few steps away from the ping pong table, our son gleefully rotated between the two!
A few minor areas for improvement:
- BBQ grill: we're avid BBQ'ers and would have appreciated a cleaner grill. Food and grease from former guests has permeated the grates, making it difficult to cook.
- XBOX 360: we tried using the device to play Rock Band the other night and had difficulties getting the game to load. The CD/DVD tray kept getting jammed. Pretty sure it's due to the device being aged — not that big of a deal, since we had plenty of other activities to keep us busy.
- mattresses: we used beds in two of the three bedrooms. Mattresses were mediocre, but not unbearable. Maybe consider an upgrade down the road?
Visited during the MLK weekend with a group of 10 to celebrate a birthday. Though a bit unassuming from the front, don't be fooled - this place is HUGE.
The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils, plates, etc and even included some extra goodies that came in handy. (Heart-shaped pancakes griddle, anyone?)
We brought our puppy along for the vacation and he was as sad as anyone to leave the sprawling backyard. Beyond the massive volleyball court, there's a little pathway which leads to a "tribal council"-esque fire pit - perfect for all your wildest s'mores fantasies. Also, there's a detached gameroom which is literally the size of a studio apartment in itself.
The neighborhood is very quiet - which wasn't a problem so much as a startling observation from our LA-based group. Every conversation - even barely above a normal tone - easily carried from backyard. So despite the infinite possibilities, definitely not a location for any primal screaming or unfulfilled Spring Break adventures.
That being said, it's in a great location - right off the 101 and 10-15 mins to the Arroyo Burro and Downtown.
One caveat - though the house technically sleeps 10, would say that the two singles and futon might be a little on the small side for full grown adults. We actually had two of the party opt to sleep in the couches in the game room, which were a little bit more comfortable.
All in all, a fantastic home rental and I would stay here a million times over. After the initial reservation was made, Nikole was extremely helpful in answering questions and provided all the information we needed for our stay.
Centrally located roughly 5-10 minute drive to both Santa Barbara and Goleta beaches, down town State St, multiple golf courses, mountain and beach hiking, restaurants, shopping, and the University (UCSB & SBCC). Accessible to major bicycling and jogging routes. Hiking right across the street. Volley ball sand court in the backyard.
