Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a lovely holiday. We love the cottage and found it a very relaxing place to be.

Although the weather could have been kinder, some of us were in the pool nearly every day! Thank you for taking the trouble to look up the local walks, which we very much enjoyed.

We had a lovely meal at La Boissiere and would also recommend Chez Sarlet in Terrasson. Excellent patisserie to be had in the village but even this was surpassed by the patisserie in Objat.

We found the people in the area very friendly and very understanding of our limited French!

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5
We have recently returned from a brilliant holiday staying at Dawn's wonderful cottage in Ayen. The cottage was bigger than expected and so well equipped that we wanted for nothing. The garden and pool are both very private and peaceful and completely enclosed, making it perfectly safe for our dog to roam around freely. Dawn greeted us on arrival and was always happy to help out during our visit (even arranging our dog's visit to the vets for us) but was never intrusive during our stay - For that week the cottage was "ours". We would most certainly recommend this accommodation to our friends and family and sincerely hope to be returning in the future. Julie and Nick Cushing (and Skip)

Lovely house

  • 5 of 5
We had a fantastic week in this lovely house and have already booked for next year. The rooms are bigger than the photos suggest and very comfortable and the heated pool is great, with beautiful views. Thank you Dawn, we can't wait to come back to your lovely house and to see more of beautiful correze.

Very good holiday and a lovely house

  • 5 of 5
The owner of the house Dawn met us when we arrived and was very friendly. We had a welcome drink and chat which was a nice way to start our holiday. The house and garden area are of a high standard and the pool is a very good size. The bar area was also a very handy place to sit and have a drink. The location of the house was good and the area around the house is very picturesque and the sunsets we seen close to the house were stunning. There is plenty of places to visit locally and the chateaus were not only great places to visit but they were also very quiet which is a bit of a change to tourist destinations in England! We would definitely recommend this house and the location.

July/August 2011

We had a wonderful two weeks in this property. The cottage was well equipped and full of character. The children particularly loved the huge attic bedroom (as did I!). The garden was very peaceful, with great views over the fields and beyond. The heated pool was fab and we used it every day. There were lots of activites in the area (high wires, chocolate factory, candle lit gardens etc.) but we always enjoyed coming back to the pool, the peace and the BBQ!

Fabulous cottage

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is well presented, very comfortable and comes with everything you might need. It is in a beautiful location surrounded by uninterrupted views of the countryside, and yet is only a few minutes away from Ayen, the nearest village, which has 3 x bars/restaurants, a bakery, butchers, pharmacy, post office bank and general shop.

The garden is mature and fully enclosed, and we particularly enjoyed the private pool. We highly recommend this cottage!

A liitle bit of heaven

  • 5 of 5
I have recently returned from my third two week holiday at La Briasse and I will certainly be returning, hopefully, many more times. La Briasse gives everything one wishes for a relaxing holiday. The house is Dawn's home, not a gite, so is comfortably and tastefully furnished and provides everything one could wish for. If you wish to just spend the days lazing around there is plenty of space to lay on the numerous sunbeds on the terrace or the sun deck adjacent to the pool and luxuriate in the peaceful and private surroundings. Should the sun become too over powering then the abundance of parasols provide welcome respite.

For those wanting a more energetic holiday there are numerous sporting activities within reasonable distance including windsurfing and other water activities on the Lac du Causse approximately 30 minutes drive away.

The well equipped kitchen along with the built-in bar/bbq and ample outdoor table and seating make La Briasse the ideal place to pass a relaxing evening or even entertain. There are a couple of restaurants in the pretty village of Ayen but many more easily accessible within a short drive.

Brive-la-gaillarde with it's magnificent bustling Saturday market, abundance of shops, hypermarkets and historic buildings is an ideal place to stock up on produce and then relax in one of the pavement cafés and people watch. Likewise Terrasson situated on the river Vézère is a smaller, picturesque town with enjoyable walks along the river.

From the moment you arrive, and Dawn's warm welcome, until the moment you leave you will love your holiday at La Briasse.

Thank you Dawn for three wonderful holidays - I will be back!!

Owner's Response: Phil, as he says, has become a regular visitor to my home for which I am very flattered. In some ways it is easier to welcome a previous guest - but also a worry as their memories may turn out to be better than the reality, so it is wonderful and very reassuring that he not only enjoyed his first but also his 2nd and 3rd visits. Thank you Phil for your lovely comments. He has now become a friend and I will look forward very much to seeing him again.

Ayen is a small village on the Correze/Dordogne border 20 kms north west of Brive-la-Gaillarde. The departement of the Lot is only 20 kms away. Locally many walks - not for the faint-hearted as this area has magnificent views hence hills and valleys! The list of tourist sites to visit is exhaustive with everything from the 2nd most visited tourist spot in France - Rocamadour; to Pompadour - home of the National Stud; Lascaux; listed villages; museuems, pavement cafes, fishing, lakes with sailing and water ski-ing etc. etc. etc. Fantastic bird watching. Night sky superb.

Other Activities: Bird watching. Night sky.
