Why Karen Hendricks Crawford chose Tabernash
The Hendricks family has been coming to the Fraser Valley since the 70s - before Mary Jane was open! - and purchasecd the land and built Valhalla West in the '80s. The beauty, the relaxation, the great sport keeps bringing us back. We are well into our 3rd generation of Hendrickses who love it here, winter and summer.
What makes this house unique
Valhalla West is a beloved family home, with many hand-made touches, including ski racks that will keep your gear in order and out of the way. It is designed to be comfortable, and to take in the natural beauty with its many windows and easy access to the outdoors, with a deck and patio. We hope you will feel at home here, too.
The house was very spacious. Plenty of room for 2 families including 3 boys under 12. We were pleasantly surprised with the items available for our use & convenience at the house. We met friendly neighbors and enjoyed building a snowman in the front yard. The drive to winter park was about 10 mins, but we really did not mind because the views were breathtaking. The owner was very accessible with any questions we had.
I loved my time at ValHalla West! It was everything the owner said it would be. It's a beautiful, well-maintained property. The information I received ahead of time was very helpful and the owner was extremely accommodating. The only information missing was about using the heat in the house. Because of dropping temperatures, I had to run the heat and there were no instructions, although I figured it out. Since there were no instructions, I wasn't sure whether I was allowed to turn it on. However, it got cold enough for me to ignore those concerns. The brochures for local attractions were helpful. I did some shopping, went to a movie, relaxed on the sofa, attended church, took the chairlift up at Winter Park and had lunch at the lodge at the top, did some hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, had a nice dinner at Deno's restaurant, and a nice breakfast at Sharkey's. I hope that I have an opportunity to come back and stay again in the future.
Very well equipped house with excellent mountain views from deck as well as family room. Kids very much enjoyed playing in the upstairs loft and downstairs study area while adults enjoyed the family room. Hot tub inside the house was very convenient even though we didn't use it and I would suggest the guests to wait for 5 to 10 minutes between showers so that the water is hot enough for next person.
This place has everything you need, including an indoor hottub. Plenty of room and everything works. Just as described in the listing. Owner communicated very well which is always a good indicator that you won't get scammed on security deposits, etc. If you like the Colorado high country, this house offers great bang for the buck.
My husband and I rented the house for 5 weeks to work and also xc ski in the area. We were very happy about our decision. Unlike some typical rental places that has the bare minimum items to get by, the house is a fully stocked home with everything from wood working tools to first aid supplies, and offers all amenities we needed. We particularly enjoyed the followings:
- Location, location, location: 5 min. drive to Devil's Thumb Ranch, 15 min. to Snow Mountain Ranch (YMCA of the Rockies), 10min. to Safeway at Fraser. The community trail that leads to Devils’ Thumb Ranch (3mile to the trailhead, less than .5 mile to Black10 trail) passes right by the house and is groomed daily. This is really the perfect location for xc skiing. - Sunset Ridge: the house is located in the Sunset Ridge community that's tucked away in a valley on beautifully wooded hills, right off the road to Devil's Thumb Ranch. - Indoor hot tub is professionally maintained and offers great relaxation after a day of skiing. - The living/dining area is very spacious. The view from the dinning/living/deck area is fantastic -- Byer’s peak and mountains. - Extremely well stocked kitchen, wood burning fireplace in the living room and charcoal grill on the deck have all added to our enjoyment. - The house is a birder’s delight and has truly made our stay wonderful! We saw 14 different species of bird at the feeder, including pygmy/white breasted nuthatches, pine siskin, red crossbill, evening grosbeak, just to name a few. - Karen, the owner is very nice and responsive. She has made all the arrangements to make our stay comfortable.
If we come back to the area, we’ll not hesitate to stay here again.
